Additional Location Information

COSTA DO SAUIPE RESORT
The Costa do Sauipe resort is located within a well-preserved nature reserve that is embraced by six kilometers of untamed white sand beaches lined with coconut trees. The natural beauty of the landscape, set within the Atlantic forest and dominated by lakes, rivers, and sea, is a paradise with year round sun.

The main centre of the resort, where the hotels are located, is 5 minutes drive from the condominium. In the resort centre there is a shopping mall, known as 'Vila nova da Praia', with tourist information/tour agencies, hair-dresser, mini-market, pharmacy, medical centre, church, bank, with electronic cash dispensers, bars and restaurants. In the evening the open-square at the centre of Vila Nova comes alive with local music and dance shows, and local craft stalls. All of which can be taken in whilst sitting outside one of the surrounding bars. It is possible to hire bicycles and golf cars for transit in and around the resort. The resort has a spa, for relaxation and massages, tennis, equestrian and nautical centres, which provide horse riding and various sailing and fishing activities. There is a 6400 metre 18-hole golf course, the Costa do Sauípe Golf Links, with a driving range and club house. The leisure infrastructure and beauty of the facilities makes the tourist destination part of the national and international tournament circuit, receiving championships such as the Get to Know Brazil Playing Golf Circuit, the Trump Golf Open, the Faldo Series Grand Final, and the TAP Open Brazil, among others. The Costa do Sauipe resort will be a great base station for the 2014 world cup, especially with several North East stadiums being used, such as those in Salvador, Recife, Fortaleza and Natal.

The hotels provide direct access to the beach. There are many other beautiful beaches, ranging from 10-60 minutes drive away; including those at Porto de Sauipe, Conde, Poças, Imbassai, Praia do Forte and Guarajuba. The meeting of the river with the sea at Porto do Sauipe, Imbassai and further north at Conde/Poças are of considerable natural beauty. A number of bars operate directly on these beaches, where you can get drinks and lunch (usually consisting of locally caught sea food).

NORTH EAST BRAZIL
The North East of Brazil is the main “sun and beach” destination in the country. This is not surprising considering the near perfect climate and the numerous coconut-tree lined semi-virgin beaches along its beautiful coastline. The weather in the northeast is the best in the entire country, with a yearly average temperature of 27oC, and is stable and sunny virtually all year around; whilst the scenery and beaches are quite simply breathtaking in their natural beauty! The northeast of Brazil is reported, by NASA, as having the second cleanest air in the world, after Antarctica; so you can rest assured that whilst you are bathing in the glorious Brazilian sun, you will indeed be breathing in some of the best air in the world!

At the heart of the North East of Brazil is Bahia and its capital Salvador, which is known as Brazil's capital of happiness due to its easygoing population and countless popular outdoor parties, including its street carnival. Carnival, meaning farewell to the flesh, takes place during February or March. It is a seasonal celebration that combines elements of street parties, parades, masquerade, singing and dancing. Brazil Carnival is rich in vibrant music, exotic costumes and dancing, not to mention the indulgence in eating, drinking and merrymaking. Although the Rio de Janeiro Carnival is known worldwide for the elaborate parades staged by the city's major samba schools, the Salvador Carnival is by far the biggest street party in the world, with every year around 2 million people participating in the parades. Living up to its name 'city of joy'.

Salvador was the first capital of Brazil, from 1549 to 1763, and as such has seen the amalgamation of Amerindian, African and European cultures. The architectural marvels of Salvador which ought to be visited are the Cathedral of Salvador, which is a specimen of the most intricate form of Mannerist style of architecture and decoration, the Church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim, which is the most sacrosanct church in Salvador with its neoclassical decorations, and the Church of Sao Francisco, which is one of the most magnificent churches in Brazil, with its extensive baroque decoration. Other attractions are the Elevador Lacerda, which is an elevator made in the 19th century that bridges the upper and the lower city, and the Mercado Modelo, an extensive market, housed in a cylindrical building, for arts and crafts. You can't visit Salvador without spending time in Pelourinho, the old historic center. Centered around the old slave auction, Pelourinho is the old city, within the city, of colorful colonial buildings and cobblestoned streets. It was named a world cultural centre by UNESCO. In Pelourinho you can find the museum dedicated to the Brazilian author Jorge Armado, whose books have been translated around the world.

GETTING TO FLORA DE SAUIPE
There are regular flights from both Europe and the US to Salvador International Airport (known as Deputado Luis Eduardo Magalhaes Airport, with the IATA code SSA). Salvador airport can most conveniently be reached by air from Lisbon in Portugal, which is a flight of just over 7.5 hours. There are also direct flights to Salvador with Air Europa from Madrid in Spain and with Condor from Frankfurt in Germany; whilst the Brazilian company TAM have direct flights from Miami to Salvador.

The condominium is 74 km north of Salvador which is about a 50 minute drive away. If a car is hired, and the airport is served by Avis, Hertz and other companies, you simply need to turn right upon leaving the airport, the one and only circular road through the airport is lined on both sides by large bamboo plants at the exit, and follow the BA-099, known as the 'Estrado do Coco' or 'Linha Verde', through Laura de Freitas to open countryside and on to the Costa do Sauipe resort, clearly marked by large flag poles at the entrance on your right. Note that once you join the BA-099 at the airport, the road is straight all the way out to Costa do Sauipe, with no turn-offs; upon leaving Lauro de Freitas there is a toll and this varies between 5 and 7 Reis. You will pass by the towns of Jacuipe, Itacimirim, Guarajuba, Praia do Forte and Imbassai before arriving in Sauipe.

Alternatively, if you do not wish to hire a car, we can arrange a taxi to collect you. The resort run a shuttle bus that can be booked and there is a Costa do Sauipe resort office in the airport. If you prefer to use one of the latter options to get to Costa do Sauipe, then it is possible to hire a car in Praia do Forte, 15 km south of the resort, back along the same BA-099 towards Salvador.
