Beautiful setting on the private and scenic Boulder River.
Private fishing right out the back door and only 20 minutes to five star dinning in Big Timber!
The cabin has two bedrooms and one bathroom.
PLEASE NOTE: Next door is another home, the Boulder River Cabin, that can be rented together for a total of four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Boulder River Barn can accommodate up to four guests and the Boulder River Cabin can accommodate up to four more guests. Please inquire for rates for both.
This cabin has a 5 night minimum.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION: This wonderful barn style cabin was built by one of the area's premiere builders, who specializes in creating very rustic, historic looking cabins, with very fine finish details and amenities. There is a sense of Old West history here, yet you will enjoy fine linens, tasteful artwork and completely modern and up-to-date amenities. The Boulder River Barn and neighboring Boulder River Cabin are on 60 acres along a private stretch of the Boulder River, just south of McLeod. This road does have some truck traffic on it during weekdays as it leads to an operating mine at the end of the East Boulder Road. The roadside edge of the property is protected from the traffic by a high, solid wood fence.
BEDROOM AND BATHS: There are two spacious bedrooms in the home, and one bathroom with a double stall shower. The master bedroom has a beautiful king size bed and also serves as some of the living area of the home. It's a very large room and at one end of the room is a dining area and a bit of extra seating. A door at the end of the room leads out to a great screened in porch with more dining space. The second bedroom in the home has two twin beds.
KITCHEN: This galley style kitchen is small, but has absolutely everything you will need for all your meals! Great gas range, dishwasher, microwave, cuisinart, etc. All cookware, serving ware, utensils and a spice cabinet are there for guests. There is also a charcoal grill for cooking in the great outdoors.
DINING AREA: The dining area is at one end of the master bedroom. There are great views from the dining area out over the pond. Watch ducks, geese, deer and pheasants right from the table! You can also head out on the back deck and dine in the screened in porch, or out at the picnic table.
LIVING ROOM: The living room in the "barn" is a great long room, with plenty of cozy seating at one end, and a fun ping-pong table/pool table set up at the other end. The furnishings and artwork are a bit eclectic and just add to the overall charm of this funky abode. There is a 42" TV with a BluRay/DVD player and a stereo system with CD player and a mix of music to play.
SETTING, ACREAGE, VIEWS: From the back door, head out and explore the 60 acres and half mile of river frontage on the Boulder River. Mowed walking paths meander through the property. Down by the river you will find the "river hut" -- a great place to hang out and watch your crew fish or play in the river. There's a firepit, hammock, lawnchairs, and even a well-kept little outhouse so you don't have to hike back up to the house. Inside the hut is a cushioned bench with pillows and blankets in case it gets chilly. Drive a little bit farther up the main road and you will find trailheads for hiking or biking up into the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness area.
ACTIVITIES NEARBY: Besides fishing on the Main, East and West Boulder Rivers, there is hiking and mountain biking on nearby trails, horseback riding, golf, skiing, tours of Yellowstone National Park, and everything that the towns of Big Timber, Livingston and Bozeman have to offer. There is also a badminton/volleyball game that can be set up out in the yard.
Additional amenities include: ping pong table, pool table, under 2 hrs to yellowstone park, on 40-100 acres, cd player, in green homes program, no air conditioning, pond on property, no TV reception, TV with internet access, washer & dryer, considered with approval & fee.TripAdvisor property ID 2227233...Read more
“A very relaxing stay in a unique cabin located in a private sett”

We have stayed in several Moutnain Home cabins and have never been disappointed. This cabin carries the "barn motiffe" to the smallest details, including door latches and kerosene lamps. It is a great base camp for exploring the Boulder River Valleys.

We stayed at this rental for the first leg of our honeymoon in Montana. We had never visited the area before, and the Boulder River Barn was the perfect way to start off our trip.
The home is beautifully decorated and has very smart design features. We live in NYC in an apartment, so this home was very large and luxurious in certain ways! It was also very clean and the bed was quite comfortable.
I loved the location because it was quiet and seemed secluded, yet it was easy to get where we needed to go when we ventured away from the property- ie: dinner out in Big Timber and a day trip to Yellowstone. There are many birds on the property which made a lovely soundtrack and the yellow warblers were fun to see flying about! There was also a mother deer and two young fawns that made appearances regularly- what a treat!
We really loved being able to just relax and have fun playing pool/ping-pong and staying home and cooking while we stayed here. It was so nice to feel away from the hustle of everyday life and to sit back and take in the gorgeous views of the mountains.

Mountain Home really prepares your home so it is clean with lots of towels/supplies, etc. It is very well-equipped. The location is beautiful. The way the bedrooms are set up is a little strange since master bedroom also includes the dining room, but it really isn't important. Ping pong and pool table also in house.

We had both the Cabin and the Barn and they are beautifully built and maintained. The River right next to them is exquisite. Great place to get together with family and relax.
This is not a river you can get in without experience though and there is not shore access either.
