Additional Location Information

Tamuda Bay is the golden curve of wide sandy beaces the other side of the crystal- clear Mediterranean to Spain. The Mediteranean sea is much warmer than the windy Atlantic coast and a great favourite with Moroccans in the summer. In high summer the corniches and beaches near towns are lively with entertainers, sunbeds, camel rides, snacks and ice cream sellers- but they stretch for miles and you can also find quieter places further away. September and October are perfect times for those visitors appreciating a more peaceful experience, the sea is lovely and warm and the beaches much emptier. Along with Spring, this is an excellent time for birdwatchers - this is the area migratory birds leave Africa for Europe/ come back, and you can see an amazing number of species.

Visit the UNESCO World Heritage designated medina in Tetouan, unchanged in centuries and virtually untouched by the tourism unlike Marrakesh. A qualified guide with excellent English is available who brings the history and culture alive. Drive through the amazingly beautiful mountains to the 'blue town' of Chefchaoan, or take the ferry for a day in Gibraltar or Spain and see completly different traditions a few miles separate but a world apart. Duty free shopping in Ceuta is half an hour's drive, there is also a lively night life scene there in the Spanish style. Children enjoy the water park and the horse and camel riding.

Outside July and August the pace is relaxed- some of the attractions close but you get a chance to savour the real Morocco. Modest dress is appreciated, away from the beach, Moroccans are interested in visitors and enjoy striking up conversations: this is a popular holiday place for Moroccans but is not part of the main Western tourist influx. French and Spanish are widely spoken, and more people are learning English. In spring the mountains are covered in a carpet of flowers, birdwatchers can see the great variety of birds that migrate from Africa to Europe.

The complex is an hour and a half (along dual carriagways through spectacular mountain scenery) from Tangier airport, where cars can be hired or we can collect you. The modern airport is served by budget (eg Ryabnair, Arabair) as well as main international and local airlines, regulary flying. An air conditioned chauffeur- driven car with English/Arabic/French speaking driver can be arranged or hiring a car from the airport is simple. More airlines are beginning to fly form Tetouan airport, but it is still mostly charter flights.
The ferry from Algeciras (Spain) takes 3/4 hour to Ceuta (where there is also a heliport connecting to Malaga Airport) and it is then half an hour's drive to the complex from the border. Again, collection han be arranged: just ask us.
