Additional Location Information

Le Jardin des Amis is situated on the edge of the ancient village of Meyrals and easy walking distance from it's two restaurants, a boulangerie and a charcuterie. We are in an excellent location for sightseeing, sandwiched between the Vezere valley, famed for it's UNESCO prehistoric sites and the Dordogne valley with it's bastide towns, chateaux and reminders of the 100 years war! We are 4 miles from Les Eyzies (National museum of prehistory) whilst Sarlat la Caneda with it's beautiful medieval buildings is only 20 minutes drive through beautiful countryside.

Meyrals village also has a church, post office, antique shop and several art galleries/artists workshops and in summer, a small market selling local produce and crafts. Only 3 miles/5k away is the small town of St. Cyprien which has a bigger range of facilities including banks & supermarket and an excellent sunday morning market (well worth a visit)!

For those who enjoy soaking up the countryside on foot, just follow one of the circular walks signposted from outside 'Le Jardin des amis' and follow the yellow flashes through woodland paths, little hamlets and past ancient 'cabanes' and caves to get a feeling for the 'real Dordogne'. The Dordogne river, only 4 miles south of Meyrals is the place to head to for a wonderful day of canoeing. This is canoeing for softies - the current floats you past 4 ancient chateaux set high above the river, within a short distance & if that sounds to energetic, take a 'gabarre' (traditional flat-bottomed boat) ride along the river whist listening to the history of the surrounding area.
