18th Century Home with Captivating Historic Charm
18th Century Home with Captivating Historic Charm
An elegant and comfortable 18th century home in Modica's historic centre, renovated by a Florentine architect. It combines brand new amenities, WI-FI, A/C, and contemporary style, with historic character. Nestled in a charming, residential neighbourhood, it's steps from Modica's lively cafes, restaurants, and stunning Baroque architecture.
This 85 sq m palazetto features original stone floors, domed ceilings and sandstone archways, alongside air conditioning, all-new, contemporary furniture, and marble kitchen counters. Enjoy coffee on the balcony with a view of Modica's historic castle, or relax with a glass of Sicilian wine in your private interior terrace. Ideal for five people, it can comfortably accommodate seven, thanks to a comfortable fold-out sofa.
Modica offers urban amenities and relaxed charm. It also makes a great base to explore southeastern Sicily, including UNESCO world heritage sites, Blue Flag beaches, hiking trails and nearby gorges, and Greek and Roman ruins.
La Margherita is located in the historic centre of town and everything you need is within easy walking distance. Most stores and banks are closed in the afternoon so plan to visit banks and grocery stores/markets in the early morning to avoid disappointment. Most things reopen at 5, but banks are only open for a short period of time in the mid-afternoon.
Maximum occupancy is for 7 people. Although our house is located in the historic centre of town, the surrounding streets are residential. La Margherita is a quiet neighbourhood and excessive noise is discouraged any time of day, but especially after 11pm.
You can take the highway (A18) from Catania towards Gela to its end at Rosolini (highway to Gela has not been completed) and continue on to Modica BASSA (Old Town) from Rosolini through Ispica. You could also take the secondary road (more scenic) SP194 off the A18 and towards Ragusa and then on to Modica Bassa. Follow signs to CENTRO or Old Town (indicated by bullseye road signs).

“Modern spacious comfort in beautiful historic bones”

The apartment was the best of nine two bedroom apartments we have encountered so far on our travels through Italy. Italian apartments in historic centres are usually small but this apartment has an upper level with an open plan connection between kitchen, dining and lounge but at the same time these spaces are all still their own rooms - not massive but spacious and comfortable for 5. Add the two outdoor spaces and everyone can find their own hot/cool/quiet space as needs in this light and open level. The kitchen was also the best appointed we've come across and the easy parking close by was also the location of the fresh fish and vege stalls. The downstairs bedrooms were very generous and comfortable and the two bathrooms modern and comparitively large. We loved Modica for its baroque charm but also it's realness. Unfortunately too many historic italian towns have turned into tourist museums and/or upmarket shopping centres for tourists and the locals have shifted to cheaper locations. Not so in Modica, it's a bustling town with lots of real shops. lots of locals with plenty of great food options and it all starts just 5 minutes from your door.

This private villa rental was the perfect Italian getaway we've been dreaming of. Superb value, and if you like your own space, this villa has it.
In the centre authentic medieval village of Modica, only a short walking distances to all restaurants and the little shops and cafes.
This old house was beautifully renovated with all necessary amenities and with a nice little terrace where we had breakfast every morning and a drink every evening.
It is a bright, cheerily decorated, clean, spacious haven in a superb location.
It can easily accommodate 7 people in comfort.
The place is equipped with all things that you would need for an extended stay and downstairs you can find fabulous fruits/vegetables stand as well as cheeses, fish and meats little amazing stores.
We like the booklets and written information the owners left in the house, recommending all the good stores, restaurant and tourists attractions in the area.
We took daily short trips to all the attractions in Sicily and it was a great thing to come home and relax by day end, before walking to dinner.
Driving to the beach was only 20 easy min, on a breath taking view...
We like to thank you for an amazing stay and we will definitely be there again.
In fact, I'm just waiting to confirm my work schedule in order to book it again.
