Superb Villa Le Vigne features lush vineyards, stone fireplace and infinity pool
Description from the manager
If you’re an oenophile who dreams of a Tuscan vacation, villa Le Vigne is for you. Located on a working wine estate near Montalcino, the renovated 18th-century stone farmhouse is surrounded by vineyards, and guests can arrange to tour the on-site wine cellar and have a private tasting. If you’re not a wine enthusiast, relax by the pool or use the property as a base for visiting Siena.
Catch up on your reading on the stone patio, or cool off in the garden under the shade of some of Tuscany’s oldest oak trees. The infinity-edge pool has a panoramic view of the Montalcino and Monte Amiata hills and an outdoor shower, and the surrounding terrace includes lounge chairs and an al fresco dining area. Explore the wine cellar and private dam on the grounds, or browse the Internet on the house’s Wi-Fi.
Like its exterior stone walls, the villa’s interiors are simple and classic, with beamed ceilings, terracotta floors and shuttered windows. The combination living and dining room has an original fireplace and a table that can seat ten. The fully equipped kitchen has modern appliances, charming paintings on the walls and a sink made of local Pietra Serena stone.
Le Vigne’s three bedrooms are also simply and comfortably furnished, with soft-toned walls and pretty floral-print bedspreads. Two of the bedrooms have queen beds and private bathrooms with shower. The third bedroom has two twin beds and an en-suite bathroom with shower. Together, the bedrooms can accommodate up to six guests.
A stay at the villa includes a complimentary wine tasting at the estate’s winery, a 90-minute drive away. Le Vigne is only 6 miles away from the town of Montalcino, which is known for its wine, and 11 miles from Pienza, which is well worth a visit for its Renaissance architecture. A bit farther afield, Siena is a 25-mile drive and the Florence airport is 79 miles away.

What to do in the southern region of Tuscany:
While visiting the famous wine producing town of Montalcino and the artistic jewel of Pienza, you will be fascinated by their charm and history. In 1555 Montalcino became the last bastion of the proud Sienese Republic before it succumbed to the Florentines and was absorbed into the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. This accounts for its imposing fortress and the wealth of superb paintings and sculptures that make its beautifully renovated museum such a remarkable attraction. Pienza was built between 1458 and 1462 at the behest of Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who decided to turn his hometown into a jewel of Renaissance architecture when he became Pope Pius II (hence the name "Pienza").
While other parts of Tuscany have developed industries that have done much for the economy but little for the landscape, the "Crete Senesi" area and the neighboring "Val d'Orcia" have largely remained true to their early agricultural vocation. Today this means local products of outstanding quality, made with traditional methods and skills that are handed down from father to son. The best-known of these are doubtless Montalcino's distinguished Brunello red wine and the Vino Nobile of Montepulciano, both of which are the perfect complement to dishes based on the wild game of the area: pheasant, quail, hare, and wild boar. Likewise, the Pecorino cheeses made with ewe's milk from the Pienza pastures are now in great demand.
"Lovely home in beautiful setting; needs improvement in its furni"
Left on 05/18/2013 for a stay in May 2013 | RayReviewed May 18, 2013Stayed May 2013
This is a spectacular setting, and with improvements in the furnishings (including the lighting in some rooms), the villa" would be wonderful as well. Although there were problems with the language barrier, the local hosts could not have been more welcoming or gracious. We would not, however, recommend that future tenants select the Tuscan dinner, which as noted below was quite tasty and could not have been served with more style by Salvatore and his son. However, 40 Euros per person for this meal, which was cooked next door by Maria and not a trained "chef," was WAY too much. At 25 to Euros per person and a green vegetable or salad, it would be more reasonable. Although the 10 minutes of driving on a gravel road to access the villa was a lot, the location in relation to various hill towns and a decent grocery store was quite good. We particularly liked the pool area. With the changes suggested below, we would recommend this villa to others and consider returning ourselves." - Ray M., ,
