“Very Quaint”

Reviewed 13 Feb 2016

We had a fabulous holiday in La Chaumiere in July 2015. The weather was great and we made full use of the heated swimming pool. The cottage was cosy and historic with beams galore and the bedrooms tucked under the eaves were so romantic. The bathroom was really cleverly and stylishly laid out. The kitchen had everything we needed and more and we ate most meals outside either under the veranda or in the courtyard - both have fabulous views of the river and valley. At night the stars were incredible, the hoots of the owls lovely to hear and we slept like logs. It was so peaceful. Thank you Jeanine and Greg for a wonderful holiday.

“Peace and quiet in the countryside”

Reviewed 12 Jan 2016

I just loved my stay in Brittany at La Chaumiere! Thank you to Jeanine and Greg for the gorgeous collection of local foods waiting when we arrived. All the linen and cleaning products and toiletries we needed were there waiting too, which was great, we didn’t need to try and fit all these extras in our cabin luggage on flights! The cottage was gorgeous, so full of character and history. It easily accommodated our party and was easy to cook in and entertain ourselves. It was too easy to pick up pastries in Languidic every morning and we also enjoyed bustling around in Hennebont at the markets. I ate far too much Breton Cake while staying but loved working it off by riding along the river and swimming in the heated pool at La Garenne. I still want to go and visit Carnac so will definitely be staying again.

“Gorgeous setting with simple accommodation”

You are definitely paying for the location here - it's absolutely stunning. Accommodation is absolutely fine, but not exactly luxurious. Good points: - Lovely grounds - Nice pool - Nice surround… More

Response from the manager I'm delighted you found our location to be absolutely stunning and I'm sorry you consider the accommodation simple. This surprises me as we have brand new super comfy 5 star quality beds with matching luxury linen. Our bathroom is luxurious and cleverly designed to fit around the sloping ceilings still giving plenty of space in the large shower cubicle along with room for the kids to play in the bath. Our sofas are high quality and very comfortable and our kitchen is extremely well equipped. The cottage is over 200 years old and we were granted planning permission to add extra windows. With the curtains and windows open there is plenty of natural light and we have an array of ceiling lights, wall lights, side and standard lamps to brighten up the cottage on a dull day. We have an amazing house-book full of useful information so I can only assume the previous guests had put it somewhere safe. If you had asked our caretaker Jeanine she would have given you our spare copy. There is mobile phone reception but the thick stone walls hinder the signal so it's best to go outside to make and receive calls. Wi fi has not been available in this rural location, believe me we have tried to get it! We are looking into a new option and will have wi fi just as soon as we possibly can. Regarding televisions these are cheap enough to put in but each time we ask our guests, the vast majority say don't put them in. A guest wrote to me earlier last year saying they had the best holiday ever without the TV. After a day they were not missing it and they truly relaxed without hearing all the bad news from around the world that creeps into our lives every day. They ate as a family, read books, played games, went for walks, bike rides and had family conversations. This lady like many others, ended by saying don’t be tempted to put them in. I keep remembering her words and those of so many others each time I have asked the question whether to put televisions in or not. There is nothing to stop guests taking a laptop with them and supply of the kids favourite DVD’s to play on it as a fall back position? Being an hour ahead of the UK but further west Brittany is light till gone 10pm most of the summer and the evenings are generally lovely and warm. Guests barbecue and eat outside enjoying the breath-taking views till bed time. Without TV’s people generally get to do more on their holiday and do more as a family. I hope this explains the lack of television. We are constantly striving to improve what we offer our guests and I trust you enjoyed our fabulous heated swimming pool which we spent a small fortune on in May 2105, putting in a safety ledge, increasing the size of the shallow end and making the steps bigger along with a brand new soft liner – I'm sure you agree it’s awesome, providing many hours of fun for the whole family.

“Beautiful location”

Reviewed 28 Jun 2013

Stayed here in early June 2013 with my wife and two children (2 and 6 months). Lovely surroundings, idyllic location and very scenic. Entertaining a two year old can often be daunting. My 2 year old could run around in the expanse of the garden freely and I bet they've never seen their swing get so much use! The pool was safe and very secure and I was never concerned on safety. Never made it into the pool as the weather just wasn't kind enough to us! Nearby attractions were suitable for young children, zoo, parks etc - but check on opening dates, as we hit it early in the summer a few were only open on Wednesdays or Weekends. In summary if you are after rural location, no interruptions and quality quiet time then this is a perfect retreat.

“Stunning location, gorgeous cottages”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2011

What an amazing place, this was my second trip and it seemed even better this time. The cottages are very well kept and have everything you need. The location is just stunning, step out of the door of a cottage to views of fields, meandering river and surrounding hills. A short drive will get you local towns for supplies and a little bit further to a beach. A perfect place for a relaxing holiday.

“The location is " to die for "”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2011

Beautiful cottage in an awesome location . It's very rural so don't go if you're a dedicated townie. You have to make your own nightlife unless you drive out somewhere.Four of us went so we didn't get bored, it would be great for a big family gathering ( 4 cottages ) or a group of friends. We hired bicycles which was great fun and easy riding along the towpath next to the river Blavet. Sadly, the weather wasn't very good so we didn't get to use the lovely pool but we did get to use the cosy log fire !
