"Windiana" is nestled between towering white pine trees facing Long Pond a fresh water lake. Take a dip or kayak in the crystal clear waters of the lake. It is in one of the premier locations on Long Pond with views of Mansel and Bernard mountains. This is a less populated part of the pond with untouched Acadia National Park land directly across and to the right. There are no other houses on the lake visible from this property. Long Pond is the largest lake on Mt. Desert stretching four miles. It is perfect for swimming and boating. Two kayaks and a large canoe are included.
Windiana is a three bedroom cottage situated on a ten acre property. It is peaceful as we have a large property, no neighbors nearby, or road traffic. We are just a few steps to the water, floating dock, and boats. The living room has 16 foot ceilings and a skylight and glass windows on two sides. The master bedroom has a queen bed with a sliding glass door to the deck. The second bedroom has a full bed and the third bedroom has two single beds. The living room sofa converts to a double bed as well. There are water views from all the bedrooms. The bathroom is a very generous size with a stone shower. There is a washer and dryer in the bathroom. Indoor table seats six to eight. We are one of the few places that has great cell phone service! There is a deck on two sides 12 X 36 and 8 x 16 with an outdoor table that seats 8 and a gas grill with one burner. The deck has a chaise, rocking chair, four adirondack chairs, and captain's chairs. There is a private floating dock and a swimming area with a canoe and 2 kayaks available for exploring the lake.
We are located in the Somesville which is part of the town of Mt. Desert. We have access to the ocean, a fresh water lake, mountains, trails, and bike paths. You can kayak, go Whale Watching, take a scenic cruise, or sail on a Windjammer. Some of our renters had taken the bi-plane, gone rock climbing and birding. A must is a Blueberry Mohito at the Claremont, Popovers at Jordan Pond, Lobsters at Thurston's and ice cream at Ben and Bills. The Causeway Club and Kebo Club are great for golfers and don't miss the Claremont Croquet Tournament in August.
This is the perfect place to relax after visiting Acadia. Enjoy the spectacular view from the decks and watch for loons and eagles. Take an early morning kayak ride while the lake is like glass. Sun and swim on the private dock and explore a fresh water lake. Canoe to Rum Island or Duck Rock for a picnic. Fish for bass and salmon or just relax on the sofa and look into the blue sky and pine trees. Watch the moon rise over Beech and curl up in a blanket and star gaze at night. Listen to the call of the loons and enjoy this unique property surrounded by ten acres of woods.TripAdvisor property ID 3649296...Read more

My wife, my daughter and I stayed here for a week in July 2013. The house, lakefront location and various amenities were as described in the Flipkey listing, no surprises. The lake is beautiful with clear water and great for swimming. We hiked the trails on the mountains on both sides of Long Pond and also trails connecting to Echo Lake. There are many fewer people using the acadia National Park trails in this part of Mount Desert Island, which is a definite plus in July. We also used the kayaks and canoe, which are provided with the house, on Long Pond. The house was very clean and well maintained and communication with the owner was excellent. We highly recommend this rental and would like to return next year if possible.

My husband and I, our two girls, and our cockapoo dog, had a great time staying at Windiana III this past July. We stayed for July 4th week. There is so much to do, and being right on the lake was key for us. It was also very secluded. We loved have the floating dock. It gave the kids something to do on the lake beside kayaking. They swam out to the dock and back and even brought their boogie boards to ride the 'waves' when some of the boats went by. The house was clean and nicely furnished. The beds were comfortable and had very nice quilts and bedding. The bathroom was spacious and very new and clean. We had a great week and would love to return next year. Thank you Diana!

My husband, two kids, and I had been planning a trip to acadia for awhile and decided to stay at Windiana this June. The cabin was beautiful and the location secluded and peaceful, right on the pond. We really enjoyed being able to just jump in the kayaks and paddle around Long Pond and the kids had a great time swimming around the floating dock. It was nice to be able to enjoy acadia and busy Bar Harbor during the day then retreat to the quiet side of MDI in the evening. Diana, the landlord, was very accommodating and helpful. We enjoyed checking off her bucket list of suggestions for things to do on MDI! Would definitely stay here again!

My family, including eleven year old boy-girl twins, had a wonderful experience renting Windiana. This immaculate, new vacation home in the woods is bright and airy with gorgeous views of Long Pond all around. Diana is a wonderful host -- welcoming and helpful in her suggestions. The house is very comfortable and well built with everything you need to enjoy a quiet retreat on Mount Desert Island. My husband fished every day on the pond and we enjoyed the kayaks and canoe as well. The house is conveniently located on the quiet side of Mount Desert, close to many greak hikes including acadia Mountain and Echo Lake. A perfect vacation getaway!

We had been planning to go acadia National Park / Mount Desert Island for a while. Our vacation was even better than anything we could have imagined, thanks to Diana and her wonderful location on Long Pond. Windiana is very comfortable - we were there the first week of May with temperatures between 50-65 F and were never cold. It is clean, spacious enough for families and well equiped so that you can cook all you want. Definitely an away from it all feeling, by the water and close to acadia NP. Diana is an extraordinary landlord, always available to answer questions and to make sure you have a wonderful trip.
Highly recommended, we will definitely consider going back.

This beautiful and spacious contemporary cabin is located in one of the most pleasant spots one can imagine--on the tip of a peninsula in a gorgeous lake on Maine's beloved MDI. You will enjoy the views of the lake and hills, untouched nature on the protected shores of Long Pond, the mature forest surrounding you, and the easy access to acadia National Park. For our three-generation family it was the perfect destination.

I finished the degree this year and my parents came to my commencement. We decided to rent a vacation house. At this time, my classmate, who is from Korea, with her parents join me. So two family joined this awesome vacation.
The location i think is the best spot around this area. The room is very clean and view is awesome. Diana has a lovely dog who really likes to play games with the guests.
Diana is a such nice landlord. She teaches my parents how to do kayak-- none of my parents and my friend's parents have ever done that before. She stayed on the dock for a long time monitoring us just in case everything is going very well.
well. Just in short: this is the best place. we are thinking to come back again next year.

The accommodations were excellent in this brand new house. We had 4 adults and 5 grandkids-a bit cramped with only 1 bathroom and a small eating area.
The use of 2 kayaks, a canoe and a private dock right on a peaceful lake was a highlight for all. The huge deck was a big plus. Access to all parts of Bar Harbor and surrounding areas was excellent. The wireless access was spotty at times.

The house was very spacious, immaculate, and comfortable. Diana provided great tips on what to do and see in acadia. We had gorgeous views of the lake, and the swimming, kayaking and canoeing were fantastic. Nothing was missing, our vacation was perfect. The best part for us was having privacy away from the bustle of Bar Harbor. It was lovely coming home at night after adventurous days and hearing only the lapping of water and the call of loons. We definitely will return!! One of the very best weeks away we've ever had!

This was one of our children's favorite vacations! We vacationed here with our four children ages 4, 6, 8 and 10 and our big black lab! First of all, Diana is a wonderful person to rent from. She checks on you to make sure everything is going well and gives you great advice about the island. Her home is beautiful with three bedrooms overlooking Long Pond. Long Pond, in my opinion, is the best place to swim on the island. The water is very warm. My kids loved running down to the pond and swimming out to the dock. We brought floats and squirt guns and they had a great time. We cooked many meals and ate on the deck. This rental is not in the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor. We have done that and this rental was far more fun for us. Bar Harbor is close enough that we went there everyday to eat, shop and tour. Acadia National Park is even closer. We spent a lot of time hiking and touring the park also. I have written extensively about our vacation to Long Pond, Acadia and Bar Harbor.
