Somesville's Main Street historic corridor features beautiful houses, expertly renovated and lovingly retouched. Magnolia Cottage is a perfect example of restoring a beautiful home to function and appeal, evoking memories of fun times on the edge of Somes Harbor. Originally built over 100 years ago, Magnolia Cottage is splendid for a family whose crew needs room to move and sleeping quarters for at least 10. Find yourselves drawn down the the ocean's edge, naturally, via the pathway toward the dock and float. Launch your kayaks, swim a bit, and play by the water's edge. Somesville Landing is also available for your use.
When you walk in from the front porch (facing Main Street) you enter the newly remodeled kitchen with a bar counter that seats four. In this room is a laundry closet with washer and dryer. Sliding glass doors open up to a deck off kitchen and gas grill. Sunroom with pretty wooded and water views and half bath. Dining area in the living room; with huge flat screen TV, and doors to screened-in porch. Bedroom with twins.
Second floor -- Bedroom with king bed. Shared full bath with tub and hand-held shower head. Bedroom with bunks. Pass-through bedroom with twins. Sleeping Porch with water views, king bed and private full bath with shower stall. A second set of stairs between the dining room and kitchen lead to an additional full bath with combined tub and shower and bedroom with twins.
Covered porch across back of house. Deck across front of house. Screened in porch off living room.

Stayed in Magnolia Cottage/me for a week with four friends. We were attracted by its location, price, availability and the number of bedrooms when we booked the house. Unfortunately the posted photos only reveal the golden side of the house but leave out the issues we instantly observed after we arrived. This house needs a plumber! We all felt that the house needs a major renovation especially in the bathrooms which are very old. There are only two showers in the house, one of them not functioning well. One bathroom has an old rusty bathtub in it which looks like from the 1920s. Some toilets were not functioning well either. All bedrooms had a muddy/old smell when we arrived - opening windows only helped a bit. Hygiene-wise the bedrooms were okay, but also had very old mattresses. The house is located directly at Main Street - a busy road with traffic from early morning until evening, but more quiet fortunately during night. You can hear the traffic noise from most of the bedrooms in the house. You won't have cell phone service in the house (no matter which provider you have) but decent internet connection.
On the positive side, the house has convenient access to a pier at the waterfront, ideal for kayaking or boating. The house has a deck and veranda with waterfront view, partially constricted by tall trees on both sides. The cottage can accommodate a good number of people with several dining areas and living room space on the first floor.
