Mungrisdale is a small hamlet with a fine local pub by a meandering stream which serves excellent bar meals. During warmer weather the stream is often filled with children paddling whilst the parents enjoy a lazy afternoon with a picnic whilst soaking up the scenery.

The former outbuildings of the farmhouse have been skilfully converted by local craftsmen, retaining a wealth of features whilst combining the comforts of modern day living to provide one cottage sleeping 7, one sleeping 5, three 2 bedroom ground floor adjoining cottages, a 2 bedroom luxuriously appointed ground floor apartment and a first floor 1 bedroom apartment.
The properties are all set within 2.5 acres of well tended gardens with many private seating areas, allowing you to relax and take advantage of the stunning 360% views.
The ‘upside down' barn conversion retains many original features and offers spectacular views over the surrounding countryside, has oil fired central heating and comprises:

What can we say? The brochure made it sound idyllic, and the reality bore it out.
Fantastic accommodation in a truly beautiful setting, with so much to do simply by setting foot outside your front door. The appointment of the cottage was fantastic - clean, tidy and more than comfortable, and the bottle of wine on arrival was a nice touch.
Our dogs loved the freedom to run in the fields as did our kids, and it was great to have so much to do within easy striking distance - no long journeys to get anywhere were necessary. For the two of us it was the chance to switch off and unplug that we so desperately needed and it really was perfection - it's rare to go somewhere and have no gripes at all, but we really didn't have any, except perhaps that we hadn't booked a second week!
Derwent Water provided a couple of days of walking adventures, Keswick was a frequent stop-off (especially the butchers - amazing selection), Ullswater provided a great day out and a trip further afield to friends at Ennerdale Bridge and aira Falls all made for a great holiday.
In fact, it was so great that upon our return home we immediately booked to go next year. We don't tend to go to the same place twice, but there is so much to do you could have two completely different holidays while still enjoying the pretty much perfect accommodation.
Although the owners were away, the friendly and always glad to help John made sure we were well looked after, and nothing was too much trouble. He even offered a fly fishing lesson, which time sadly did not permit.
Wifi, A DVD player, more games than it would be possible to play, stunning views from just about every window, everything you needed in the kitchen, a big fridge and freezer, comfy beds and real peace and quiet - what more could you ask for? Whatever the weather it was covered.

We stayed here at the beginning of august 2012 and had an absolutely lovely time. We were 4 adults and 3 children aged 3, 4, and 5 and really couldn't have been more pleased with the size of the house, the outdoor space, the facilities, and the warm welcome from the owners.
Would strongly recommend this property to anyone!

A perfect choice for 3 couples, with each having their own bathroom, a lovely well equipped barn in a gorgeous location. Outdoor spaces were fantastic for relaxing in the sun and the hosts were very friendly and helpful at all times.

Our long weekend was excellent, the barn was lovely, homely and the owner was very friendly. We could have stayed for longer we enjoyed it so much. If you want peace and quiet this is the place to stay. The barn is well equipped and the views from the lounge are amazing...no TV required here!

Received a great welcome from the owners, who were very helpful and showed us the property and facilities. We found the local information pack very useful.
The property is excellent, well thought out in design and nicely furnished with a cosy feel to it.
The location on the hill gives a beautiful panorama view of the Mungrisdale area as well as the lakeland mountains.All the Inns and hotels in the area serve excellent food if you want a break from self catering as we did,.
Overall we all enjoyed the stay without exception, and plan to pay another visit in the future.

The holiday began with a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble, we were told just to ask. The cottage was spacious and very well equipped for a relaxing break with our children and grandchildren.Lots of varied attractions within easy travelling distance, but a nice garden if we didn't want to go anywhere!
