A beautiful canal-side address to impress - the epitome of style and understated elegance on the ‘Rio di San Lorenzo’ in the heart of Castello.
Seconds on foot to the 'Questura' office of Donna Leon's fictional crime-busting Commissario Guido Brunetti and looking towards the landmark leaning bell-tower of San Giorgio Dei Greci, Ca’ Dei Greci offers capacious and classically Venetian surroundings for up to eight guests on the second floor.
Within easy walking distance of all the must-see sights of St. Mark’s Square (including the Basilica, the Doge’s Palace and the Clock Tower) and close to the Riva Degli Schiavoni waterfront yet away from the hustle and bustle, the apartment comprises a charming central main sitting room where comfy armchairs and a luxurious deep-filled sofa beckon against a backdrop of eastern artwork and traditional terrazzo flooring overlaid with a splendid oriental rug, and three tall windows opening directly onto a balcony overlooking the canal.
Furnished in shades of mellow noisette, the informal TV room to the side has plenty of additional seating, an upright piano for the musically inclined and two windows also overlooking the canal, while the formal dining room to the rear of the apartment is a picture of elegance in which sturdy wooden cabinetry and the bold geometric patterns of the polished parquet flooring are offset by the delicacy of a fine crystal chandelier and pretty cane-backed chairs.
Also to the rear and sharing the dining room’s view towards the Campanile of St. Mark’s stands the white, light-filled kitchen which is fully equipped and features traditional terrazzo flooring plus a scrubbed wooden country-style table for lazy breakfasts r preparing lunch or dinner.
There are four large and very tasteful bedrooms, each stylishly presented with fine furniture and in beautifully co-ordinated colours and fabrics -
two doubles with double beds and canal views (one with an en-suite tiled bathroom with bathtub and shower over and the other served by a separate bathroom with bathtub),
a further double to the rear of the apartment with a double bed and a separate bathroom with a bathtub and shower over,
and a twin with two single beds at the centre of the apartment.
Space and relaxed grandeur in a fabulous spot…
A short walk to the atmospheric Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni and its wonderful Carpaccio paintings, the monumental Dominican Basilica di Santi Giovanni e Paolo (one of the largest churches in Venice and burial place of no fewer than 25 Venetian Doges), and to Campo Santa Maria Formosa (site of the Querini Stampalia) passing Palazzo Grimani on the way.
And even closer to home - moments to the imposing façade of the cavernous Church of San Lorenzo (just visible from the apartment but now closed to the public, the church was the supposed resting place of famous Venetian explorer Marco Polo (1255-1324) before his body was lost during its rebuilding) and to the Museo di Dipinti Sacri Byzanti (Museum of Icons) just along the canal.
Also within easy reach of the local Punto supermarket for easy self-catering and to the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for easy travel around the city.TripAdvisor property ID 1869573...Read more

Ca Dei Greci is a wonderful flat very well managed by Views on Venice. We booked this flat on the last minute and communication with them was quick and effective. They even reserved a water taxi for us. Everything was perfect and we did not need to get in touch with them during our stay there, but they gave us a 24h phone emergency number just in case we needed it. We liked very much the flat, it has some nice old furniture but also new comfortable commodities in the sitting room. It is big and luminous and very confortable for 8 people including two kids and two grand parents. The kitchen had all we needed for cooking, we only missed a blender to make some puree for the kids. The wi-fi worked perfectly, and we could booked our boarding card for the way back which was quite handy for us. The flat was being cleaned just before we arrived, so we found everything perfect. The location is great, just 5-10 minutes from San Marco´s square but in a peaceful canal street away from the crowd. It is close to a small supermarket that sells all you may need. The cost of the flat is very good taking into account the quality offered. Personally, there was only one thing that I did not liked, I was woken up very early in the morning by the noise of the boats, maybe new windows in the bedrooms will improve this. However, this did not seemed to bother to the rest of the family.
