Description
This little cabin was built in 1865 and was the original home place for this property that originally was over 2000 acres. We both love LONESOME DOVE so we named this cabin for GUS....and we have our little 2 bedroom CLARA'S CABIN further down on the property. Still private and secluded away.
Gus's Place has been updated in keeping with respect for both its age and our modern needs. The kitchen boasts a new stainless GE gas stove/oven and a stainless GE fridge. It has a porcelain farm sink and the floors....while not old....are stained to match the old plank flooring in the rest of the house. There is a comfy living room with a fireplace and DirecTV and fantastic stained glass pieces done by widely acclaimed stained glass artist, Pat Williams. AND, WE FINALLY HAVE WI-FI INTERNET!!!!!
The bedroom has a queen size bed and off this bedroom in the front is a reading room/bunk room with a bed for an extra person...although this little house is more comfortable for one or two people. We also provide a Pack N Play if given advance notice that you are bringing a small child.
The bathroom has a slate tile floor and slate tile shower with stained glass in the window of the shower and above the sink. There is a washer and dryer in the event that you need those items. We supply a hair dryer and linens and towels for your needs. We also supply shampoo, soaps, Tide, charcoal for grilling, etc., just like your home.
There is a lovely patio in the back with a wonderful hot tub and a couple of tables and chairs and patio furniture with an umbrella. There is also a grill for your outdoor cookouts! We have wood for the fire pit there also. We stock the pantry with condiments and other foodstuffs for your use.
Whatever you would like to use at the Little House, please feel free to do so.
AND....if you love fresh farm eggs, then feel free to go into the chicken coop and get some fresh eggs and in the garden behind the little chicken coop. You can pluck some fresh veggies whenever the garden yields its crops.
Our big dog, Sadie, will usually camp out in front of the Little House just to make sure you are taken care of. She is an Anatolian Shepherd and was bred to be a livestock guard dog. The breed hails from Turkey and I know she wishes we had much, much colder summers... She is BIG but she is a sweet girl who lays around a lot and makes sure that you are safe and secure.
It is just a lovely little cabin. Please enjoy yourself!

Response from the owner We had hoped that our guests would feel about this little gem of a house as we do. Sounds like you definitely loved it too. Whenever we get a chance we go take a bit of a holiday down there just to hear if the walls have decided to give up the secrets of the long ago past. While it is updated for all the comforts of this day and time, we took care to keep the precious past in mind. It still boggles my mind that the house was build that long ago and is in such great shape....and still "living where it was planted" so to speak. During those threatening storms, my husband remarked "That is probably the safest place on the property...It certainly has withstood the test of time." We look forward to meeting you soon....I am more than happy that we were able to contribute just a small place for you to find solace. Come again...SOON! We have lots to talk about! Marcia
