Have you ever been to Spain?. It´s much more than sun and beach. If you want to know it in a different way we offer our charming rural lodgin: Altozano´s Rural House. It´s is located on the picturesque village of Navarredonda de Gredos, within the Sierra de Gredos Natural Park.
The house, with a cosy interior decoration, maintain an old appearance on the outside while interior is furbished with all the available commodities: fireplace, central heating and hot water system. One´s you are by the place, there are many great things to enjoy. Our charming rural lodgin is located in a unique physical setting: La sierra de Gredos Natural Park, placed on the Sistema Central mountain range, 62 km away from the medieval city of Ávila, famous because of its big wall around it. Gredos affords a spectacular mountain environment which represents one of the most interesting natural areas in Western Europe from the biological point of view. At the Nineties this area was appointed as “Regional Park “ and since then is protected by Spanish environmental laws and regulations.
During your stay you will be able to discover the Gredos mountain, it´s highland meadows or the pine forest next to the Tormes river.
You can also organize climbing excursions to the sharp, broken peaks and steep crevices of the mountains, the most outstanding of which are the Circo and the Laguna Grande de Gredos, although there are many interesting places and smaller mountain lakes to delight everyone.
The Sistema Central mountain range reaches its highest elevation within the Gredos area at Almanzor, a granite colossus of 2,592 metres in height.
There are many itineraries to select the excursions that most appeals to you. Activities like horse and bike ridding, tree-top climbing, arch target shooting, municipal swimming pool (1 km away), etc. are also available. At the area there are many companies that offer all kind of adventure tourism.
Well prepared people may be interested in trekking activities into the Circo and Laguna Grande de Gredos, (glacial circus and lagoon) and its surrounding, including reaching the top of Almanzor, a granite colossus of 2,592 metres height.. Climbing activities should be only faced by well trained and equipped people, and will need local expert guidance.
There are many signalized routes at your choice with easy walks for everybody just by the forest, river, meadows and “gargantas”.
You can also reach walking Gredos Parador (2 km), King Alfonso XIII old hunting lodging in the area. Just bellow a beautiful pine tree wood goes down Tormes river and its “gargantas” (highland springs climbing down the mountains).

Ávila, about 63 km away, is a city bounded by one of the biggest and best maintained medieval wall of Europe which also house beautiful examples of civil and religious architectural buildings in Romanic and Gothic styles ( (website: hidden)).
Also very near are Toledo (167km), Salamanca, (102 km), Madrid (170km), Segovia 140 km, etc. . In an radius of 40 km you will find typical villages with first class hand craft and agriculture production , well maintained urban structures and buildings, castles, vestiges of Vetonne and Celtic locations, and so on.
COMO LLEGAR Traveling to Gredos / How to arrive
Its quite easy to get La Casa del Altozano. We have got very good comunications. You can travel by car, taxi, bus or train (to Ávila).
It is to 170 kilometres from Madrid Airport. (Barajas).
Bus: Every day there is a bus from Madrid to come to the village of Navarredonda. And also there are several buses from Madrid to Ávila. Bus in Ávila: Avda. de Madrid, 2. Phone: 920 220154.
Train: You can also come by train to Ávila (there are many trains every day) and then take there a bus. There are many train daily. Train Station Ávila: Paseo de la Estación,40. Phone:920 240 202. (website: hidden)
Taxi: If you prefer you can come by taxi. There is a taxi driver in Gredos, you can contact to him (Daniel Garrosa) at 650 747631 or email:(email: hidden): If you come by car, you must know that Spain have quite good roads. Here you have some indications to arrive, however we recomended you to look up a roadmap.
A- From Madrid
Take the main N-VI road to La Coruña and then take the exit to Ávila-Villacastín; carry on towards Ávila.Going out by a Coruña higway AP-6 up to Ávila-Villacastin exit, then by higway AP51 up to Ávila. Go arround the city by N-110 Plasencia direction up to Arenas de San Pedro juntcion, then turn left by N- 502 up to Venta Rasquilla (Km 54), then turn right Barco de Ávila direction by AV 941 up to Navarredonda de Gredos, Barajas.
B.- From Cáceres:
1- Via Plasencia: take the N-110 road till Barco de Ávila and then take the C-500 road toward the National Parador. We are located on the village of Barajas. Navarredonda de Gredos.
2- Via Trujillo: take the main N-V road towards Navalmoral and carry on; before arriving in Talavera de la Reina turn left toward Ávila. Carry on till Ramacastañas and then turn right toward Ávila. After reaching the Pico Pass, in Venta de Rasquilla, turn left toward El Barco de Ávila (C-500 road). Carry on 13 km till Altozano´s rural house. at the village of Navarredonda de Gredos.
C.- From Salamanca:
Take the C-510 road till Piedrahíta, the Alba de Tormes road. In Piedrahíta turn right toward Barco de Ávila and then take the C-500 road toward Pico Pass and National Parador. We are located on the village of Barajas. Navarredonda de Gredos.
It is also possible to reach Altozano´s rural house via the Chía and Peña Negra Passes (See maps).
D.- From Toledo:
Take the road toward Talavera de la Reina. After this town turn right toward Ávila. In Ramacastañas turn right toward Ávila. After reaching the Pico Pass, in Venta de Rasquilla, turn left toward El Barco de Ávila (C-500 road). Carry on 13 km Carry on 40 km till the village of Barajas. Navarredonda de Gredos.
E.- From Badajoz:
Take the main N-V road and before arriving in Talavera de la Reina turn left toward Ávila. In Ramacastañas turn right toward Ávila. After reaching the Pico Pass, in Venta de Rasquilla, turn left toward El Barco de Ávila (C-500). Carry on 40 km till the village of Barajas. Navarredonda de Gredos.
