The Nest in Cable Bay is a modern, cosy, well appointed, stand alone, rural/coastal retreat with NO NEAR NEIGHBOURS. Purpose built for a maximum of 2 adult guests and situated right on the coast, the Nest enjoys quite unparalleled views overlooking Cable Bay, Pepin Island and beyond. You can take in the views from your bath, or perhaps over a glass of local, award-winning wine on your private deck. Here you will relax in sunshine and solitude while only 20 minutes drive from central Nelson, New Zealand's premier arts and crafts centre and a mecca for foodies.
Your boutique accommodation consists of your own stylish, compact kitchen and well appointed lounge, dining and bed-room. An en suite bathroom with walk-in shower and a separate bath with expansive sea views completes the ground floor. Re-cycled native Rimu flooring lends a special ambience, as does nautical-styled decking. Soak in the coastal views from the luxury of a relaxing bubble bath for two. Pamper yourselves and unwind!
Your snug mezzanine (loft) hideaway is specially created for quiet times (reading, writing, listening to music, playing board games, etc.) or perhaps merely watching the tides ebb and flow. Sometimes hell is indeed other people! Your private deck with its prime coastal vistas lends itself to breakfasting in the morning or sunbathing while you plan one of many local excursions.
Drinking water comes from a local stream and is UV treated and filtered. Waste water disposal is via our own bio treatment plant.
Access to the beach, walking tracks and Pepin Island (by permission) are but a short stroll from the property. And you are literally one minute's meander through native bush to our coastal estuary with its abundance of bird life, some of it e.g. Royal Spoon Bills, Fern birds etc, quite rare. There is an excellent local cafe near the beach (open 4 days per week) and horse trekking, kayaking and an outdoor adventure centre are situated nearby. Apple TV,WIFI, a DVD player (we have an eclectic range of mainly classical films) and "free to air" TV is available for true addicts
Ask to borrow the kayaks (two "sit on": one single; one double) or a rowing boat. There are two modern unisex bicycles available for your use. Please note that NO CHARGE is made for the use of these items so we accept NO LIABILITY for any loss, injury or misfortune arising from your use of them. Please ask us BEFORE borrowing same.
While Cable Bay is a small, cohesive and friendly community with superb scenery it can get quite busy over the Xmas period so please remember to drive carefully. You can stroll about at night in this compact little coastal community and will be truly amazed by the starry night-scape (no street lighting).
Meander through our extensive, secluded coastal native garden without being accosted by anything other than the prolific bird-life: Kereru, Bell-Birds, Tuis, etc). Short garden trails direct you to the tidal estuary and offer the opportunity for coastal walks (make sure you take your camera!) and a variety of water sports (swimming, boating, fishing, diving), etc.
Please note that our rates are somewhat higher than most surrounding B&B type properties. This is because not all holiday accommodation is created equal.Things we check out when staying in holiday accommodation are:-
1/ How private is it? How close in proximity is it to your host's living areas? Stand alone is best!
2/ How close are neighbouring buildings/people? Quiet is best!
3/ How secluded is the property generally? The garden? Privacy is best!
4/ How close is it to the surroundings that attracted you in the first place e.g. beach, walks, cafe, etc? Close is best!
5/ How well appointed/modern are the accommodation furnishings? Purpose built is best!
6/ What additional amenities are available at no extra cost e.g. bicycles, kayaks, row boat, BBQ, etc? Free is best!
If you´re looking for a select, convenient yet truly unique escape from the hustle and bustle of city living, this place was created with just you in mind. We like to think Cable Bay as the way the world was before it all went mad! Our sole objective is to deliver to you a truly special "time out" experience, allowing you to return to your workaday world relaxed and reinvigorated.
We look forward to hosting you!

Additional Location Information
Your Nest in Cable Bay is absolute waterfront and enjoys expansive sea and Island views. It's located approximately 25 minutes drive North of Nelson (around 2,500 sunshine hours per year) and approximately 35 minutes drive from Nelson airport. Sunshine, art, wine (25 wineries), boutique breweries and adventure make Nelson a lifestyle mecca with year round holiday ambience. The second oldest city in the country, Nelson was settled by Europeans in 1841. The original inhabitants (Maori) of the area are represented by 6 tribal groups, namely Ngati Kuia, Ngati Toa, Ngati Rarua, Ngati Tama, Ngati Koata and Te Atiawa. The largest fishing seaport in Australasia, Nelson's abundance of fresh seafood coupled with award winning local wines makes for a truly memorable gourmet experience.
Please note there is no public transport servicing Cable Bay so if you don't have your own car you will need to hire one. Off street parking is available.
Cable Bay is a coastal / rural enclave - a tranquil, small community with a focus on beach and water activities e.g. boating, kayaking, swimming, fishing, diving, etc. It takes its name from the site of the first telegraph cable linking New Zealand with the rest of the world (1876). As befits a partially estuarine environment, it is home to many native birds, some of which are quite rare e.g. Royal Spoon Bills, Fern birds, etc. Nearby there is an adventure centre that offers horse trekking, 4WD, trails, sky wire rides and paint ball warfare, etc, etc. A Kayak tour operator is similarly close by, as is a licensed small cafe on Cable Bay foreshore (closed over Winter). The absence of street -lights means guests usually have an impressive starry night-scape and there is a variety of walks nearby suitable for all levels of fitness..Those less energetically inclined can relax on their private deck, maybe with a chilled glass of award winning local Sauvignon Blanc, or meander through our extensive, secluded native garden. We have Kayaks and unisex bicycles you can borrow but you do so entirely at your own risk.
We are fond of describing Cable Bay as the way the world was before it all went mad! We look forward to hosting you.
