Papa Bear's Lodge is a large, eclectically decorated log cabin that sleeps up to 15, but is also ideal for smaller groups of 6 or 8. Located on 5 treed acres just 2.5 miles from Nevada City, it is the perfect place to unwind with friends or family in a beautiful natural setting. The great room [with wood stove], and kitchen are quite large and comfortable. The dinning table, made from the flooring of an old railroad box car, sits 1O comfortably. Papa bear's has a large wrap around porch with a ping pong table, and large back yard area for the kids to play. Sit out there at night to see the milky way and stargaze. We are next to an 80 acre camp and secluded from neighbors.
BABY BEAR'S COTTAGE is a one bedroom cabin adjacent to the Lodge, and may be rented along with it. There is a third cabin up the hill, MAMA BEAR'S, of course. Each has a hot tub and deck or patio area.
Nevada City is an historic Gold Mining town established in 1859. There are numerous fine restaurants, one of the things we are know for, as well as live music, live theater, great shops and art, a beautiful park with outdoor concerts in the summer, and a pool for the kids. You'll find tennis courts, a ball field, and lovely picnic area there with a stream running through it.If you like coffee houses, we have several. And we also have 2 coffee roaster near by. If you like wine tasting, we have several wineries and wine tasting shops.
The historic town of Grass Valley is only 5 miles away, with more theater, art galleries, restaurants and several wine tasting rooms. Scotts Flat Lake and Rollins Lake are nearby for swimming, fishing and boating. And don't forget to visit The Empire mine for a look back at gold mining history. You'll find jewelry made from local gold in both towns. Why not try your hand at gold panning!
You'll enjoy a day trip to Downieville for some more history. Be sure to stop at Two Rivers Gallery while you are there. On the way back you can take the drive through the area known as French Corral and stop on the other side at the famous covered bridge at Bridgeport. This is a great place for a hike and picnic.
The beautiful Yuba River [south fork] is just 3.5 miles past the Papa Bear's Lodge. It is truely a magical place with it's beautiful large boulders set in a river canyon. Bring your camera for this excursion. You'll want to relax in the sun and water for awhile, or just hike along the trail.
Then come home to your own log cabin, sit in front of the fire and reflect on your day.
We hope we have peeked your curiosity about our lodge and this beautiful area that is packed with history. There are many books at the cabins, and several on local history. We would be happy to get you started. Local maps are available for your use.

The Papa Bear cabin has been a favorite for years. It is in a private setting, yet close to town. The home itself is very welcoming and warm. A great place for a small group to gather and enjoy each others company. Rene and Drue are great to work with too!
