Maison Touriste New Orleans - Where Old World Charm Meets Modern Day Comfort In Home built in 1899. 1100-sq-ft.
One year after the French Quarter was established, Algiers Point was founded, making it the second-oldest neighborhood in the city. Maison Touriste is located in this historic area, which serves as a cherished reminder of authentic New Orleans.
+No need for a car...
Algiers Point is a leisurely 5-minute ferry ride across the Mississippi River from the French Quarter. Your accommodations are 3 short blocks from the ferry, which drops you at the foot of Canal Street and the start of the French Quarter in addition to the Convention Center, Harrah's! Other sites (such as the Superdome, Garden District, Frenchmen Street, and Metairie Cemeteries) are reachable either by a longer walk, bicycle, street car, or short cab ride. Or if you prefer to drive, it is 10 minutes to downtown and 15 minutes to the French Quarter in regular traffic.
+All the charm of the Quarter but in a safe, quiet neighborhood...
The picturesque Algiers Point neighborhood is unique to the history of New Orleans; there is even a walking tour that highlights this quaint village. With the specific intent of renting to tourists, your hosts chose this neighborhood because of all that it has to offer, including the short ferry ride that eliminates expensive French Quarter parking. Please take a minute to research Algiers Point and you'll see why we chose this amazing neighborhood to offer to our guests!
The house is perfectly positioned around the corner from an amazing breakfast/lunch restaurant called Tout De Suite, several churches, parks, and a little grocery store. The ferry ride alone offers a unique view of New Orleans only available to those lucky enough to be staying in Algiers Point. While this is all easily accessible on foot, bicycles are available for a small fee -- a great way to see the river is by riding along the scenic Mississippi River Trail, which is just two blocks away from the house.

Historic Algiers Point -- Ferry To French Quarter New Orleans, Louisiana
Additional Location Information
We were specifically looking for a property to rent to visitors. Therefore, it was extremely important to find a location that offered easy access to the French Quarter and downtown and a neighborhood that was quiet and authentically New Orleans with restaurants and such very close.
Algiers Point was perfect, since it uniquely is right by the action yet still calming and peaceful. The ferry to the French Quarter takes just 5 minutes and runs every 30 minutes. The neighborhood is very safe and quiet, which were also very important factors. Plus, just walking through the neighborhood one gets a feel of true New Orleans charm by seeing the old, beautifully-restored homes; hearing the church bells, tugboats, steam calliope from the river, and receiving hellos from friendly neighbors.

New Orleans is so much more than Bourbon Street! Our recent stay at Maison Touriste opened our eyes to this!
Our hosts, Angela & Mark are exuberant in their love for New Orleans. Their knowledge of the culture and history was evident as they took us on several tours. They delighted in pointing us to the restaurants where the locals like to eat. We enjoyed the music, food, history, culture...so much more to New Orleans than Bourbon Street!
The ferry was so convenient. Located just 3 blocks from Maison Touriste, it's a 5 minute ride that deposits you right in the middle of the city! And the view of downtown New Orleans while you are on the ferry is magnificent!
We loved the authenticity of the home and it was evident they took pains to see that it was cozy and comfortable. We enjoyed the convenience and good food at the restaurants in close proximity to the home. It is a safe neighborhood for afternoon walks or evening strolls.
This couple is so congenial we felt like we had known them all our life. We look forward to heading back this year to experience more of New Orleans culture and it's food. (You simply can't get it all done in one visit!) And we'll definitely stay at Maison Touriste. Why go anywhere else when your hosts treat you like "family."
