Additional Location Information

Once home to more than 200 slaughterhouses and packing plants, the Meatpacking District or Gansevoort Market Historic District (as the district is officially known) is now one of Manhattan's most glamorous, chock full of restaurants, exclusive clubs and high-end designer boutiques. The neighborhood has been further transformed by the must-see destinations that have emerged here. The Highline Park, built on an abandoned elevated railway showcases plant life along its mile-long path. It features viewing platforms, sundecks, restaurants, and gathering areas used for performances and art exhibitions. Adjacent to the Highline, the Whitney Museum of American Art's edgy new building designed by Renzo Piano will open in May, 2015 with 200,000 sf of exhibition space and 150,000 sf of outdoor galleries.

By night, the MPD's dance clubs, sexy lounges and rooftop bars draw in celebrities, models and Wall-street moguls; bottle service prevails. While there are some long-time favorites - Cielo, Provocateur and the VIP Room for example, longevity can often be measured in months - not years - for most of the "models and bottles" venues. Call ahead, bring your Amex Black card and enjoy while you can.

The area is very safe and is always full of taxis. It is less than three minute walk to the A,C, E and L subways.
