Short-term *legal* rental of beautiful, *full* parlor floor with walnut-oak flooring, ten-foot Breakfast-at-Tiffany's mirrors & black Italian marble hearths, of registered landmark West (Greenwich) Village brownstone townhouse w/ lots of light, 700 sq-ft, well-furnished, elegant, warm & comfortable apt, large b/r w/ queen-sized bed, very small but complete kitchen, beautiful bathroom, exclusive/private 500 sq-foot southern, finished terrace off living room.
We have an equally lovely privately-listed space in San Francisco that has availability; please ask if interested.
Rent includes all taxes, utilities, electricity, insurance, incoming phone, WiFi/Internet. Check-in is 6 p.m. and check-out 3 p.m.
Cleaning fees are the only other cost of your stay, one cleaning regardless of period ($99 minimum) and covers one crew cleaning surfaces + linens/laundry delivery service + inspection service (my cost is actually double yours). One additional cleaning required every three weeks of stay; no other fees, taxes or hidden charges. However, *please* note that there is a $1K security deposit. This is returned with 4% interest p.a. minus the cost of the cleaning within a week of your exit. I understand that this is not standard, but the furnishings in the apartment require it. E.g., if you stay 1 week, there is a rental fee and a $1000 deposit from which $99 will be deducted for one cleaning. For 2 weeks, the rental fee would double, but the deposit and cleaning deduction would be the same.
Situated on the most beautiful, set-back, tree-lined, dynamic, super-safe block in the West or Greenwich Village.
Private unlisted phone; a/c front & back; fax (outbound only); full stereo, HDTV, DVD/Blu-Ray/VCR (no cable, just broadcast TV), flat-panel PC w/ Internet via Ethernet or WiFi; nearby laundry and postal/shipping services; excellent access to Citi Bike, express/lcl subways (1-2-3-9-F-L-M), PATH trains, and Penn Sta./LIRR/AMTRAK.
A minimum 4-day stay is required because of the amount of prep-work we do.
While no parking provided, there is a parking garage across the street & free street parking.

1. Are there more pictures?
We've limited the number of pictures because we have found that it was better to put the rooms' particulars in the FlipKey "Details" tab. There are no additional photographs to send.
2. Is there laundry in the building?
There are no facilities in the building. The easiest is to either drop-off, or have picked up for free at the apartment, your laundry for wash-and-fold by Little J Cleaners.
3. Why do you charge separately for cleaning? Why not fold it into the price?
The number of cleanings required varies by length of stay & the amount may vary by depth of cleaning needed. Also, the cleaning fee simply goes directly to the cleaning company & is determined by them.
4. Can I pay with a credit card?
YES! You can now make a credit card payment via FlipKey; FlipKey charges us 3% and we would deduct that amount from your deposit ... or pay via PayPal, google!checkout, etc. Their fees will be charged to you and can be pretty stiff, though, up to almost 4%, unless your funds come from a linked bank account or existing balance. 5. Anything else I should know before my inquiry?
Yes, one thing, and to my potential future guests, please do not be put off by this, but, please, do not ask me what the best price I can offer you is. It starts the communication off on the wrong foot. This Apartment is located so amazingly conveniently to everything you need in New York City! First, Margaret waited for us as we were delayed learning the subway system. When we finally arrived, she was already there at the apartment. our first look around the apartment, and we knew we made the right decision. The subway stops are just a short walk away, all great restaurants are close by, coffee shops, theaters a subway stop away, everything! The apartment was wonderful! It has great character and was very clean! We enjoyed late night snacks every night with family around the dinner table. How wonderful is that! You couldn't get that in a hotel!The kitchen, although small, was very functional. even the bed was very comfortable. I have been telling everyone I know about Scott's little gem in New York City. we hope to return to New York for another fantastic vacation, and will definitely stay at Scott's apartment.

This place is perfect! Soo charming, perfectly situated (we went everywhere from Time Square, to LES, to Williamsburg and Brooklyn - everything was a walk or 1 subway ride away!), very safe and a great deal! The place is huge, with a large Terrace and all the amenities! Scott was a dream to work with. You can't go wrong booking this place!

We stayed here for two weeks "working holiday" in January (during which there was an 8" fall of snow one night!) and the apartment was delightfully warm! It is comfortable, homely and in a great location - a 10 minute walk down to Greenwich Village, likewise over to Chelsea, and two subway stops each just 4 or 5 minutes walk away. Plenty of cafes, restaurants and a good supermarket on the doorstep. Spacious with high ceilings and two lovely feature fireplaces. The kitchen is small, but fine for a short stay and simple cooking! The owner Scott was a pleasure to deal with - helpful, courteous and prompt in answering any questions. We hope to return.

This is a dignified, spacious apartment on a beautiful quiet street. It has a wonderful classic Manhattan feel with high ceilings, hardwood floors, tall windows and a leafy terrace surrounded by greenery. We made good use of the well-equipped kitchen, the computer, and other amenities. Scott is an attentive host who made sure we were able to get in and out smoothly and had everything we needed. The Italian restaurant downstairs is superb. I hope to go back soon.

We had a great time staying at Scott's place. It's a great location for NYC, the apartment is clean, comfortable, has the feel of an 'old-school NY apt' though the kitchen is too small to swing a rat (luckily!) let alone a cat! New Yorkers don't eat in! The terrace looked out over lush green trees in springtime and is totally secluded and private - and a unique feature in NY where most places are windowless, much less with their own outdoor space. We were worried that we might be disturbed by the restaurant downstairs, but you barely know its there; no smells and fewer noises. It was closed at lunchtime. Scott was friendly, courteous and helpful beyond the call of duty, even arranging for us to use his us mobile phone. I highly recommend this place.

My husband and were visiting the City with a baby, and we couldn't have been more happy with the choice of apartment. Everything you need is right outside your front door; just a short walk East is Union Square and Chelsea Market is just a few blocks West. We felt safe and it was quiet when inside. The apartment is spacious, and has everything you need. Also, the fire places and high ceilings (and, not to mention the terrace) add to the genuine feeling of a classic brownstone. The owner was always quick to respond to our questions and requests, and made us feel very welcome. We would definitely come back for another visit!

Loved this beautiful apartment! I have rented others in NY and this is by far my favorite. I will definitely stay here on my next visit. The architectural details, tasteful décor and beautiful quality of light throughout the day make this apartment really unique. Off the dining area are tall French doors that lead to a large deck that is quite private. I loved sitting out there early mornings and evenings. It was so nice to have such a quiet place to sit and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. It is also in a very convenient location on a very pleasant street. It is within walking distance of whole foods, trader joe's, some nice wine shops, lots of restaurants and plenty of shopping. In addition, the owner was quite attentive throughout the process, calling when I arrived to answer any questions and being available by e-mail throughout my stay. This apartment is really an excellent value for the price. I hope to return soon!

My husband and I stayed in this magnificent apartment over Christmas 2010. It is in a superb location - close to Greenwich & West Villiages, Chelsea Market and different train lines at each end of the street. Midtown and various sights were only a short subway ride away. The apartment was clean, warm, safe and comfortable not to mention classic & cool. We enjoyed our beautiful white Christmas listening to jazz and taking in such unique and handsome surrounds. Our host was lovely and so accommodating, even passing on details local haunts and must-sees. We highly recommend this apartment for winter and can only imagine how fantastic it would be in the warmer months. We will definitely be back!!!

Classic, sunny elegant NY flat with high ceilings, and elegant architectural detail with modern design elements. Within 2 blocks there are bars, restaurants, drugstores, Starbucks, groceries and 2 subway stations. Also 10-15 minute walk to Meatpacking hotspots and shopping! I was there during a bitterly cold 3 days, and in spite of that I was toasty warm, and there was plenty of hot water. Great flat screen tv. The amenities of a hotel but the flexibility and independence of a flat made it the perfect option for a NY C getaway!

We have come back 4 years running to this delightful apartment and hope we can come again. We appreciate the elegance of this brownstone apartment with its lofty ceilings, parquet floors and sunny, spacious deck with a view of trees. The street is pleasant and tree-shaded and all the amenities, subway station, laundry, food stores, etc., are within a 2-block walk. The landlord is responsive and has been very helpful over such things as setting up computer connexions. We heartily recommend renting here.

This the perfect Greenwich Village apartment out of Central Casting; just what I'd want I could keep my own place there year round. Gorgeous hardwood floors and high ceilings with a mid-century look. Very open and roomy, as centrally located as they come. Close to the subway on one of those classic, well- maintained New York brownstone-lined streets. There are always taxis right out your front door and great places to eat and shop the minute you walk out your front door. Surprising quiet, too.
I loved every minute of my stay here and I'm trying to book it now for my trip next year.

this apartment is a classic NY Village experience--soaring ceilings, a great outdoor deck, broad open rooms on a beautiful quaint street. it has that je ne sais quoi that makes New York so special. the place really has charm and roominess. it's a great place to hang or to entertain...I really enjoyed it.

All rates are fixed. There are no "better," "best," "discount," or "special" rates. The closest comparable hotel in the area where many guests have stayed prior to our apartment is The Standard on 848 Washington Street: http://www.standardhotels.com/new-york-city/rooms/ . Two more modest priced hotels very nearby are the Jane and the Larchmont Hotels: www.thejanenyc.com and www.larchmonthotel.com.
We are taking selective reservations through late 2015. You may reserve and pay by any method you choose; we just need that the net amount (the amount after your payment service deducts its fees from you and/or us) equals what we quote above.
Up until November 30, you can reserve via PayPal any dates in 2015 w/ 100% refund for 55 days. Example: you reserve September 1-10 on June 1st and make your reservation deposit via PayPal; any date up to the July 25, you may cancel and get all your money back including PayPal fees. We do not advocate one type of payment format over another; it's just that PayPal offers this service.
Please note that a "Weekend Night" is defined by FlipKey as Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.
The following days are treated as weekends: Thanksgiving, December 24 -- Christmas Eve, December 25 -- Christmas Day, December 31 -- New Year's Eve, and January 1st -- New Year's Day.
Further, the booking of the calendar is for nights. Thus, if you see the 16th available and the 17th not available, that means the apartment is available until 3 p.m. on the 17th (see next).
Please note that check-in is 6 p.m. and check-out 3 p.m.
We now can accept credit cards for your booking directly through FlipKey; FlipKey charges 3%, and it will be itemized on your bill from them. You can also pay through EFT, wire, PayPal, or in cash. Checks in USD are fine but must be received a week or more in advance.
Cleaning fee, regardless of period, and covers one crew cleaning surfaces plus a linens/laundry delivery service plus an inspection service (my cost is actually double yours); $99 minimum, although our service has only once charged us more than this in 19-1/2 years (a self-imagined rockstar had made a mess of the place); must have cleaning service in every three weeks of stay (can be included in entrance/exit); no other fees. There is, however, a security deposit equal $1000. Your deposit is returned within 5 business days and earn 4% interest p.a.
Because this is a not-for-profit enterprise, we are just barely covering our costs. As such, towards the end of the year we may need to ask that your reservation-request fit the dates left without gaps. This is a little awkward to explain, but if, for instance, you wanted to rent 4 nights from November 28 to December 2, we may not be able to accommodate because that leaves 3 nights unrentable (25 through 27 November 2014, inclusively), and your 4-night fee will not even cover the base cost of the week, even before our other expenses. This is why above we cannot just absorb the credit card or PayPal fees; they're a small part of your total bill but are a huge part of the net cost, after our expenses.
