“E for excellent at Waipouli Beach Resort E406” In a nutshell, this rental was first rate! The place was clean, bed was comfortable, the furniture not dated, the view was stunning, and the pool was sweet. Centrally located with easy access to all the Kauai sites in the north and south. Safeway and Starbucks located directly across the street made getting groceries and coffee mighty convenient. REMAX did an outstanding job with this rental. We were very, very impressed and highly recommend E406.

“Hot at night” The first night was great. But the next morning when we left the condo, we followed instructions to turn the air down and it was never the same after that. We made sure the doors were shut tight. It took about 2 hours for the rooms to get down to a comfortable temp and every night we slept with no covers on because it was too hot. Seems like the air needs to be checked. We were afraid to leave our sliders open even for a little bit becuse it took so long to get the rooms back to a comfortable temp. Also, I see no reason that the kids can't use a kid-sized floaty ring in the pool and I even saw a man sipping a soda at 10 in the morning get reprimanded and told to take his beverage out. The pool was too strict this time making it kid and family-unfriendly. Also, it would be nice if the landscapers with their mowers and blowers could work around the pool hours. We used the pool exactly 1x during our stay. :(

“Wonderful” We absolutely loved the condo we stayed in at Pono Kai resort. There was so much room and it was clean and well kept. The view of the ocean was breath taking and we both think the best part of our vacation to Hawaii was the condo. Thanks so much for allowing us to stay in such a nice place. Jean and Kennedy Hofmann

“This well maintained and managed condo is in a great location.” We loved the proximity to the beach, playground, and bike paths. There is a great open market and two large grocery stores within walking distance. The staff are friendly and helpful. The pools were clean and pleasant. I loved barbequing under the palms, and walking over to the nearby shops in the coconut market in the evening. Kapaa is a central spot for accessing all of the island's destinations. We had a great family vacation.

“Great centrally located island location!” This was my 14th trip to Kauai and I have always stayed in Kappa for its central location on the island. First time staying at Kapaa Shore, but was familiar with its location and the units. Was pleased with unit 106 although we did not spend much time there. Impressed at how much "stuff" was in the unit. Was obvious that previous renters would leave behind items for the newbies use. Sunscreen, rubbing alcohol, hairspray, laundry detergent, spices, cooking spray, salt and pepper and so on. We contributed to the welcomed stash when we departed. Big plus having Safeway and Longs across the street and an easy walk. Make sure you look around unit before you head to store as what you need may already be there. Lovely ocean view, but lots of rocky coral right in front would not work for kids playing in ocean. In fact we really did not see many children around, more mid to older folks - very quiet!!! Facilities, parking, pool, laundry were all good. We had no issues and no complaints. I believe units are individually owned, so updating and furnishings vary. I noticed some units were much more eye appealing than others. Kauai is a treasure! Love this island and was so thrilled to share it with Todd who had never been to any of the islands. We will be back, soon! Thank you for sharing your condo with us - we take away many fond memories.

“Beautiful ocean views from your lanai” There are spectacular views from the lanai of this oceanfront condo. Every morning we were able to watch whales in the distance while eating breakfast! Two full bedrooms and two full baths would make this a nice place to stay for families. However it is on the third floor without an elevator but we got assistance with luggage moving in and out. The pool is heated and there is a great hot tub. A very nice place to stay that is close to many shops and restaurants but still quiet and peaceful.

“Love Kauai” We have been to Kauai many times usually on a timeshare exchange. I was a bit worried about the rental experience, but I felt better after talking to Garden Island Properties. They were great all the time. The condo was very clean, nice decor, our favorite location in Kappa. Very well stocked with everything. The view at Kappa Shores is beautiful. A few minor problems like the wifi didn't work and the dishwasher. If we would have called them they would have fixed it. We didn't care as my hot spot on my phone worked fine and we ate out mostly. If I had to rent again I would call them and trust everything would be great. Best tacos ever is across the street at Tiki Taco. Tiny place, but big good tacos. At Kappa Shores park where they tell you as we saw other cars towed away on the back street. Everyone there is always friendly and helpful. My husband forgot his watch and some other items there and Garden Island Properties were so nice when I called from the airport and mailed the items to us. A+ to everyone there.

“Relaxing” It was a great place to stay. The condo is well furnished and had lots of amenities. The only negatives are no beach to swim at and the couch needs to be replaced. We love the Kapaa area and all the restaurants that area available.

“Kauai was amazing, no words can describe the beauty of it.” We had a wonderful time in Kauai. The unit was clean, had everything there to use in kitchen and bathroom, and poolside. The washer/dryer was convenient for laundry. The view was wonderful and the ocean breeze was refreshing throughout the apartment. It was centrally located on the island to drive to northern and southern shores plus could walk across the street for shopping, etc. Maintenance was handled in a timely manner and everyone was pleasant. Definitely will refer to friends and family.

“unbeatable views!” Our family of six stayed her June 2014. The house fit our needs and the location was perfect. We have been to Kauai multiple times (8-10 over the past 20 years) and prefer the Kapaa area above all others. It is a convenient launching point whether you are heading north to Hanalei or south to Lihue or Poipu. Many restaurants and the ABC store are just minutes from the door. The first thing we did upon arrival was rent 6 bicycles for the week from the little store on Inia street across from the Ono shave ice stand. Every morning we rode bikes along the 4 mile path. The views are spectacular! My teenagers rode their bikes to Kealia beach about two miles away and swam daily. Only two complaints - two of our kids had to sleep downstairs (two bedrooms up and one down). Downstairs is not air-conditioned and it became pretty hot. They suffered through until the third day when the ants were too much to handle. Little ants everywhere, even in the beds. At that point they moved upstairs and one slept on the sofa bed (not pulled out as the mattress was too thin) and the other on the floor. Take care of the ant issue and get an air-con unit for downstairs and this easily becomes a 5 star place for a family of 6! Oh and wifi is extremely limited - we had about 2 hours a day where we could get wifi.

“Great property, great island” Great condo with plenty of space. Clean and stayed cool day and night! Three minute walk to the beach and ten minute walk to hotels like kauai coast and aston islander down the road (we had friends staying down there). Really close to town, grocery stores, many restaurants, and great swimming/sunbathing beaches. All the towels you could need and snorkel gear and boogie board rental places were just a quick walk down the street. We had a great time and would definitely stay there again!

“We loved our stay at Plantation Hale and hope to come back soon!” This is a review of condo D11 at the Plantation Hale in Kauai. We are a family of four: 2 adults, a girl aged 14, and a 10 year-old boy. We stayed for 10 days: May 31st through June 10th, 2014. Driving from the airport to the Hale is a quick trip. Kauai is a small island and the Hale is located about equidistant from the southern beaches and the northern beaches (which turned out to be our favorites). It’s on the edge of the town Kapa’a. You can walk to the local Foodland and the Safeway and on into the town center, but we were consistently lazy and just drove. Kapa’a is small and feels like a real Hawaiian town (as opposed to Lahue, the big city you fly into). The condo itself is quite a bit bigger than I expected with plenty of room for our family. We brought way too much stuff and didn't use most of it, so we just stored it all in the roomy closets. The kitchen is a good size and has lots of usable counter space and a pass-through to the dining area so you can talk to people in the living room while cooking or cleaning. The bathroom has a huge counter containing the sink, which turned out to be very useful because we had a shocking number of hair products, sun products, bug dope, and assorted toiletry bottles we used every day, and I don’t know where they would have ended up (or where we would have applied them) if the bathroom didn't have this big counter and open space. The bedroom had a brand new king sized bed, which was very comfortable. The pull-out sleeper couch was also new and very comfortable. There was also two nice televisions in the unit, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. The condo was recently redecorated and remodeled. They did an excellent job, as the feel is very modern and the furnishings are quiet nice. The condo was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for a perfect family vacation. We were on the top, second floor. The condo is on the beach side of the Hale as opposed to the highway side so you don’t hear the road while in the condo. Parking was never an issue and we were always able to easily park within a few yards of the entrance to our stairs. The condo itself was very quiet. The building seems pretty heavily built and we rarely heard anybody. I don’t know if the first floor guests could hear us stomping around, but no one complained. The condo complex has 3 pools but our condo was closest to the best one with a hot tub, outdoor shower, pool and an outdoor cooking grill. Since it’s just down the stairs and across a short sidewalk you don’t need to put on shoes. It was also kind of handy to be able to just look over at the pool from our porch to see if anyone was currently using the hot tub. The porch runs along the entire length of the condo, so there is room for guests if you happen to meet people during your vacation. In summary: We really enjoyed the condo. It was very useful and didn't have any real negatives. Also, even though this is a review of the Hale condo, I highly recommend vacationing in Kauai. I've been to the big island, Oahu and Maui over the years and Kauai is now definitely my favorite island. It’s got everything we needed for a Hawaiian vacation: hiking, snorkeling, body surfing and actual surfing, many different beaches with varied attributes, and, it’s all beautiful! Just driving around looking at the scenery is fun. I also think Kapa’a is a great town to stay in, as it seems to be a good mix of size, location (on the island), convenience and authentic feel. We really enjoyed walking around the town and visiting the many different shops and eateries. We loved renting bikes and biking the awesome trail along the shore. And we really enjoyed the body surfing at the beach on the north end of town. If we manage to do this again we will try to get this same condo as it seemed just about perfect for our needs.

About Kapaa

The beautiful beaches, amazing food, and friendly locals of Kapaa are the perfect mix for a relaxing getaway. While you are on the island, be sure to visit the art galleries in Hanapepe, the quaint village of Kilauea, and the secluded Lumahai Beach.

Here are a few additional suggestions of things to do in Kapaa:

  • Huleia National Wildlife Refuge: Home to a wide range of birds and animals native to Hawaii, this is a great place to take photos of the wildlife and stunning scenery of the island.
  • Lydgate State Park: Just north of the airport, this large park has a play area and a swimming area specifically for kids.
  • Waimea Canyon: Explore the Pacific's version of the Grand Canyon.
  • Na Pali Coast: Na Pali is one of the most distinctive geographical features of the area and a popular tourist stop for Jurassic Park fans.
  • National Tropical Botanical Gardens: Divided into three gardens, this site contains rare plants native only to Hawaii as well as several endangered species.
  • Go to the Beach: Of course, most of your vacation in Kapaa will likely be spent at one of the many beaches just relaxing or engaging in activities like snorkeling and scuba diving.

Since the weather in Kapaa is perfect year-round, anytime is a good time to visit. If you are interested in soaking up some of the local culture, try to schedule your trip around one of the many events held in the Kapaa area. Some of the most popular festivals of Kapaa include the Kauai World Challenge, an international canoe racing competition held in early May; the Hawaiian Slack Key Festival in November; and the Garden Isle Artisan Fair, which sells a variety of handcrafted goods from top Hawaiian designers, in late March. Luckily, there's no shortage of vacation rentals available in the area during any season of the year. In addition to condo rentals with panoramic views of the ocean, there are also many spacious villa rentals that offer all the luxury amenities you need to relax in style.

Islander #348, Oceanfront, AC, Walk to Beach, Top Floor, Free Wifi/Parking!
Islander on the beach

Great view from 3rd floor for sunrise every morning, quiet. Coffee pot tasted like its never been cleaned. Refrigerator was slow but, eventually cooled off foods. Phone/internet didn't work but, Greg came and fixed it right away. Comfortable bed, adequate pillows. AC worked great. Central location makes it easy to go to either end of the island. Remote enough that you feel like you're on vacation and not in a city/town. All the knives in the drawers were so dull you could not cut through an overripe banana. Took a while to find switch for light over sink. Had to plug and unplug appliances since there were only two outlets over sink.see more

The laundry could use some updating! Had to inquire about wifi code, needs to be posted. More bath towels would have been nice! Our week stay was wonderful! Breezy condo with wonderful ocean views and sounds !

We really appreciated our stay in this clean condo, on the last floor, equipped with everything we needed, with so great views over pool and ocean. We were just a bit disappointed about the night-time/very early morning noise in the second bedroom overlooking stairs, hallway to other units (some people seem to don't know much about a little discretion) and, further, the main road.see more

Nice....

We stayed here in August. The apartment was clean and simple. They had a TV in both rooms as well as the living room with cable, Netflix...and a few others available! Kitchen is equipped although we hardly used it. The owners had chairs, umbrella, and snorkel gear available for our use which we took advantage of. The location is convenient. Walking distance to the beach (to rough to swim in though). The negatives- no washer and dryer. It's on the second floor- no AC so it gets HOT!!!! Extremely uncomfortable even at night (at least while we were there). We avoided the apartment for this very reason (same reason we avoided the cooking). It felt like an oven to say the least, but the property manager was nice enough to bring us fans. I'd recommend only in cooler weather or if they installed a wall air unit. see more
Plantation Hale Suites B6, AC, Near Beach, Shops, Restaurants
Conveniently located, pleasant, good value.

We enjoyed our stay at Plantation Hale, unit B6. It was a ground floor unit, near the office. The building was just off the highway, but seperated by a large hedge. We had a nice lanai but no view except the hedge. The unit was nicely appointed. The bed was king size and very comfortable, which was important to us. Living room furniture appeared to be fairly new and was very comfortable. Kitchen was ok....stove was smaller than usual. No dishwasher. Biggest complaint here was a small 2 cup coffee maker. They need to purchase a full size coffee maker. Very inconvenient in morning to have to make more than one pot. Other than that, kitchen had everything we needed. Bathroom was fine. Had tub/ shower combo except tub plug would not hold water so having a bath was out. These few minor things did not spoil our vacation, but could improve the stay for future occupants. We did enjoy the pool and hot tub, very close to unit and very quiet while we were there. The complex is convenient to many nearby restaurants, shops, grocery stores etc...we walked to Trees bar one night and Lava Lava restaurant, both just 5 minutes away. Hukilau restaurant is just 2 minutes walk away. All in all we found this a very good place if one is seeking a value. Certainly not luxury, but clean, and comfortable if you are on a budget. Also might add that we did not find the traffic noise a bother. see more
