5 of us (parents, adult child, 2 separate adult friends) fit perfectly into this ever so livable 4 bedroom, 2 bath, house. It was clean, comfortable, country cottage feeling, and well-located in a quiet residential street a mere 10 minute walk from the heart of "downtown." The yard with it's picnic table looked inviting, but we were so busy with theater (the Shaw Festival) and other things we didn't partake. The large dining room table allowed us all to spread out with our breakfast and computers and maps, and just enjoy our time together and in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Our family enjoyed a spectacular Christmas this past December with the help of our rental accomodation! The Butterfly Cottage had everything we needed. Plenty of space, fully equiped kitchen, even an out of tune piano for old times sake! The wood burning fireplace helped set the winter scene! We were able to seat 16 on Christmas day for dinner. We really felt at home, when we needed to feel at home. Liz and Brian
Butterfly Cottage is a great place to reunite in a home-away from home. We are so glad you had a special Christmas and made special memories! We hope that you can come back soon... in the summer the black berry bushes that were snow covered for your stay produce the best berries for you to enjoy!
On a note of clarity for guests reading this review. Liz and Brian spoke with us about their dinner plans. Sleeping at the house were only 8 guests and we had agreed ahead of time about their plans for Christmas dinner. Butterfly is located in a quiet neighbourhood and parking is a bit problematic if their are more than 3 or 4 cars. If you are planning a celebration activity, please have a conversation with me prior to booking. We just want to make sure we meet with your expectations!
Looking forward to greeting you soon! Janet and Eric

“Book Club / 50th Birthday Getaway Weekend!”
Left on 01/30/2013 for a stay in September 2012 | A FlipKey verified reviewerReviewed Jan 30, 2013Stayed Sep 2012
My five book club friends and I rented Butterfly Cottage in September as an annual girls getaway that also happened to coincide with one of our member's 50th birthday. The cottage was absolutely perfect for our group! The open concept living/dining/kitchen area allowed us to stay involved in the conversation at all times! The bedrooms were comfortable and accommodated the six of us very well.
The location provided a pleasant walk to and from the downtown shops and restaurants, which helped to counteract (just a little bit) all the lovely wine and food that we consumed over the weekend!
Had the weather been a bit warmer, we would have definitely enjoyed the added bonus of the porch and back yard; but no matter, there was ample room indoors for us to be quite comfortable.
I would definitely recommend Butterfly Cottage to any small group looking for affordable yet extremely comfortable accommodations in Notl :)

My 3 sisters and myself rented the Butterfly Cottage for 3 nights for our annual get-away in October 2012. The service was perfect, we were given all the information we needed to look after the cottage, garbage, recycling, etc. The cottage itself could not have been better! It was plenty big enough for us, loved the big table, the bedrooms were really nice and bright, clean and comfortable, as were the washrooms. The veranda and garden were so nice. The living room was spacious with very comfortable furniture. The location was great, we walked everywhere. We enjoyed our stay immensely and would definately stay there again.

Our extended family so enjoyed the weekend in Niagara-on-the-Lake and in Butterfly Cottage. The cottage was clean, spacious and charming and we really enjoyed the wrap-around porch and quiet yard. My daughter loved the swing, and would pick a cherry or two while swinging! The downstairs bedroom was fantastic for my father as he has trouble with stairs. The only quirky thing we found was the tiny sink arrangementin the kitchen, but that certainly didn't spoil our stay. The beds were so comfortable and the living area had plenty of room for our family of 8.

We spent 2 perfect days in the "Batterfly cottege" in the august. Amazing combination of very comfortable cottege with everyrthing you need and, probably the most beautifull place in the Ontario lake - Niagara-on-the Lake. I would strongly recommend this place.

My husband and I were traveling with our 2 young adult children, just out of college. We enjoyed the cottage with it's comfortable furnishings, out of the main traffic areas of Notl. Just a block back from the Lake, the cottage is in the middle of a peaceful neighborhood. The beds were comfortable, the space more than enough for the four of us. We enjoyed the gardens out back, that added privacy and a great view. The piano was a plus for our composer son, who used itoften. The biggest plus, my husband lost his wedding ring, and the owners found it about three weeks later, and we were shocked to receive it in the mail! Great memories of this cosy cottage, nestled in a wonderful vacation spot!

We had a wonderful stay at the butterfly cottage for my parents 40th weeding anniversary!
The property manager was professional and friendly. She called and followed up with us by email after we made our reservation online and made arrangements for us to get access to the property after hours, considering that we were checking in late at night.
We felt that the cottage was conveniently located in a quiet neighbourhood close to Notl main business area and to wineries, lake Ontario, Niagara Falls, etc. It is well furnished and equiped and we loved having coffee or a class of wine on the porch overlooking the garden.
Our group consisted of four adults and we had more then enough room to sleep or just hang out.

The cottage was very bright, airy, clean and well appointed. We felt relaxed as soon as we entered. It is within walking distance of lake Ontario and the bustling downtown Notl and yet feels very peaceful. We visited all the tourist hot spots nearby but spent whole days at the cottage, just relaxing. The beds were very comfortable and there was lots of space for storing our stuff. The garden is a beautiful (tamed) jungle, full of butterflies and bird song. My husband particularly enjoyed going out after breakfast, to pick the ripe blackberries. Though we were five adults, we never felt cramped or crowded, there were many nooks and crannies where one could find a quiet spot to read or snooze.
There are only two small reasons I did not give this place five stars. Our family enjoys cooking together and for this purpose, we found the available kitchen counter space too small and the sink was located at an awkward angle. Also, neighbours would occasionally check in on us and so did the owner. I found that a bit intrusive, considering we were only there for a week. Nevertheless, we thoroughly enjoyed our week at the cottage and hope to return in the near future.
Just a little update - Butterfly cottages has recently changed owners. We have listened to the reviews and agree that the kitchen needed a little remodeling and that is in the works! Stay tuned, we will be publishing new pictues soon!
Butterfly was purchased by a family that fell in love with Niagara-on-the-Lake and they want to share what it is like to live like a local! However, they are keenly aware of privacy. Please rest assured that you will enjoy Butterfly as if you owned it yourself. ~ Looking forward to greeting you soon! Call 905-468-8985 if you have any questions!
