About Northeast Kingdom

This quaint location is nestled between Green Mountains and the Connecticut River in Northern Vermont. If you're aiming to travel to a location that boasts picturesque scenery and plenty of arts and recreational activities to keep you occupied, you'll love the Northeast of Vermont.

The history here goes way back, with human settlement dating back as early as 9300 BCE. Most of these early settlers were of Asian descent. Since 1949, however, the area has developed immensely for the enjoyment of both locals and tourists. Here's a fun fact for you: in 2010, this resort was voted the second favorite romantic getaway in New England. It’s truly ideal for valentines or anniversary trips away!

This special place is surrounded by gorgeous countryside and landscapes that stretch for miles. Here, you’ll experience the simpler things in life and get a taste of local life.

What to do

The resort offers plenty to do all year round. During the winter, the Northeast of Vermont offers fabulous opportunity for skiing. Choose between Burke Mountain Resort and Joy Peak Resort which may be considered the most challenging peaks in the area. On the other hand, winter activities also include trying out the indoor water park; ideal for those who are looking for a much more laid-back recreational activity.

During spring, many tourists explore the area by walking or cycling over Burke Mountain and investigating many of the local trails. Fishing is also a popular option from the spring through to the summer due to the number of rivers the resort has to offer.

If you're looking for something more challenging, many tourists decide to go kayaking or canoeing in one of the many rivers, while keen golfers are thrilled to experience the wide range of golf courses within the local area.

Top Northeast Kingdom, Vermont tips

You can easily get around the resort by bus if you prefer to get around by public transport. Buses are operated by the travel company named Rural Community Transportation. Here, you can travel to destinations such as Saint Johnsbury and serves Caledonia, Essex, Lamoille and Orleans counties.

There are even two railroad systems within the Northeast of Vermont: the Washington County Railroad and The St. Lawrence and Atlantic Railroad. The latter has six departures per day between Pond and Maine, so is always a consideration if you plan on exploring a large proportion of the Northeast of Vermont.

Fans of the outdoors will be in their element in the North East of Vermont. Whether you intend to take a short relaxing break away to discover nature, or try your hand at an array of challenging activities, there is something for all generations.

Great Jay Peak Condo!

I actually rented this condo off the website Vrbo, but when I went to rate it there, the listing had been deleted. I liked this condo so much that I wanted to come here an review it anyway! It was very clean and well appointed (much nicer kitchen and bathrooms than other condos at Jay that I have rented). It is on the second floor, so you don't have to worry about any noise from above. The owner, Peter Bennison was extremely helpful and responsive - he always got back to us right away with any questions via e-mail. Although there were ample pots, pan, plates, cups etc. there is not any cooking stuff (e.g., sugar, flour, oil) at all in the condo. This is not necessarily a drawback, just different from other condos I have rented and important know as you make you packing list. I would definitely rent this condo again!see more
