Please see slashed Rates as we have an offer for our only dates still available this year August 27 to October 14 $450 per week $85 per night and $1400 per month (normal monthly price is $1650). We offer for rent a beautiful, very light and spacious (180 square meters), fully furnished 2 bedroom + study area/2 bathroom house in the desirable and SAFE San Felipe del Agua. Although the North of Mexico suffers from insecurity, this area of Mexico is particularly tranquil. Please see the reviews from previous renters earlier this year.
The house we offer is very spacious and combines the best of modern and traditional design. Our house has a modern kitchen with a new stove, big fridge, washer etc an enormous inviting lounge/dining room with high wooden beamed ceiling leading on to a spacious roofed terrace with grill, hammock etc downstairs leading on to a garden, 2 bathrooms.
There are two lovely bedrooms; the one upstairs can easily accommodate a double plus and extra single if necessary; it has a balcony with great views and a study area. There is a twin bedroom downstairs, also with a desk and plenty of space. It is next to the terrace where most visitors have passed their time as it is so inviting, beautiful, cool and relaxing. (Limited access - 2 hours daily - to the solar heated pool next door can be arranged on weekdays and some weekend days for a reasonable $30 weekly which contributes to cleaning costs). Those who come with children need not worry about pool safety as there is a gate with a combination padlock between the house and our pool. All beds have mosquito nets which you can decide if you want to use if you come during the hotter months. All windows and doors have screens so some visitors find the nets redundant.
The house is set in stunning surroundings, with views of the mountains from all angles of the house. It is situated in the most desirable residential area of Oaxaca, San Felipe del Agua. The house is set back 40 metres from the road (which has little traffic) so it is very peaceful and is only moments from local shops. San Felipe del Agua juxtaposes 5 star hotels and simple abodes and its cobbled-stoned roads are shared by sophisticated cars, cows and donkeys. There are also many nearby restaurants with very good food.
The house is surprisingly close to the historic centre, so you will have the best of all worlds! Wake up with a glorious view to the mountains from your bedroom window,, exotic birds in your lush garden and the smell of tortillas, handmade in the ancient way, by a neighbouring family, just minutes from your door. They will be happy to provide you with this delicious local food on a daily basis. The house is 2 blocks from the San Felipe del Agua Church and its square which has market days on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, a local lending library and restaurants and many places to eat. The bus into town (running every day) is less than a 5 minute walk away from the house; and schools, for families with young children, are also within walking distance, so a car is not needed.
Oaxaca is a popular spot for both foreigners and Mexicans due to the year-long wonderful climate and the exceptional scenery including cactus lined valleys and glorious mountains. There are fascinating cultural buildings and artisanal markets; also including museums, restaurants, various exciting specialist markets, and experiencing nature e.g., hiking in spectacular parks and ecologically important forests, etc.
Economic weekly cleaning, can be arranged as well as to have delicious Mexican food delivered to your door, and cooking or baby sitting can also be arranged at very reasonable rates. It is easy to get a taxi to our house from the airport.
We are a British/Mexican couple who have lived in San Felipe for 15 years and are a convenient source of local knowledge. Sergio is an anthropologist and musicologist. Judith is a psychologist, anthropologist and painter. Sofia and Olivia are our two wonderful, bi-lingual, daughters. Olivia who is a responsible 13 year old offers baby sitting!!
We welcome short and long term visitors and we have had people stay from a weekend to a year or more. The house is great for all ages and those who like to paint/write/relax or immerse their children in the most colourful Mexican culture to learn/improve their Spanish and experience the world in one of the most popular cities in Mexico. Visitors with children will enjoy all the extra curricular activities that Oaxaca has to offer, art classes teaching artisanal craft, dance, horse riding etc. We also have a stair gate and cot for babies.

Please note that there is an extra charge for each person beyond 4 guests of $15 per night.

Additional Location Information
San Felipe del Agua is the most desirable residential area in the city. It is about 15 minutes from the centre yet in the mountains with beautiful views and a flavor of local Mexican life, where you see donkeys and cows being taken to pasture and can buy freshly made tortillas from a neighbor.

A short bus or taxi ride from Oaxaca city, this 2 br house in San Felipe del agua, at the base of the mountains, is an excellent location for a couple or small family (we were 4 adults and one child.) Small stores and a thrice weekly mercado are in walking distance, as is the bus stop, there is a lovely church, and a swimming pool is available (and desirable during the hot months!) Our host, Sergio, was there to greet us, kindly provided coffee and a few essentials for our first morning, and drove us to a nearby restaurant for our first breakfast. Mayra, who cleans the house weekly, was very helpful, especially when we had a problem with the gate lock. Everything worked well in the house otherwise; we usually had meals outside on the patio if not dining in town. The village atmosphere was a welcome respite after touring the valley or visiting downtown. An excellent Spanish school is also a 20 minute walk away, and we took lessons twice. We eventually got used to the roosters, dogs and firecrackers (but bring those earplugs anyway!) My sister even missed the night sounds after she went home. It is very easy to communicate with the owners or their neighbor. We enjoyed the artwork in the house, and a boom box was available-we found a good Mexican music channel. The only real problems we encountered were the gate lock (resolved) and the difficulty of finding the return bus routes in town due to 'bloqueos.' Other than that, we had a great time and would recommend the house to anyone who wants to experience Oaxaca.

A restful 10 day stay in February. Spacious house, small garden, but delightful pool next door. Local market only a five minute walk. We were about 15 minutes out of town - in San Felipe de agua - but there was a 6 peso local bus ride only a few minutes from the house. The town of oaxaca is full of exciting food, shops, museums. We could have stayed longer. Only drawback is no local restaurants close to the house.
Thank you for your review. As you know we were unfortunately on a year's sabbatical and missed seeing you. I only know now that somehow our information sheet which we have at the house did not come to your attention as there is a list of nearby restaurants which are within walking distance from the house. There is an un market on a block away in the Hotel Los Laureles, a delicious sushi restaurant ten minutes walk away and typical Mexican cafes just a stone's throw from the house!

“Fabulous Oaxaca Experience”

We loved staying in the house in San Felipe del agua. It was located a bit outside the city in a quiet suburb. It was readily accessible by bus that ran regularly and by an inexpensive taxi ride into or out of town. We didn't mind being out of town. There were several outdoor markets each week just a couple of blocks away so we could stock up on fresh produce, etc. And there were several small stores with other necessities. The woman next door made fresh tortillas. The house itself was large and comfortable, though not luxurious. We really liked our upstairs master bedroom with its own desk area. Guests could stay downstairs and had their own bathroom. The kitchen had all the necessities and we loved having a washer and then hanging our clothes out to dry. There was a woman who cleaned every week and kept the place spotless. The hosts were wonderful and very accommodating. Judith occasionally shopped for us at Sam's Club, took us to a doctor when needed, allowed us to have important business documents faxed or emailed and printed out. They were wonderful hosts. The only thing we didn't love was the pool because it felt a bit intrusive to use it because it's in their back yard but it's a very nice solar heated poor and the discomfort I felt was not because of the hosts. I just prefer a private pool. Oaxaca itself is an amazing and wonderful place. We felt totally safe there. We had fabulous food, loved the ancient ruins and the contemporary crafts. We were there more than two months and were never bored. We took cooking classes, visited the ruins and the various crafts villages, poked around the museums, the markets and the shops. I highly recommend this house, especially if you are planning to stay long enough to settle into Oaxaca (more than 10 days or so).
