Description from the owner
The Perfect Getaway
Apartment no. 10 at Chrisanns Beach Resort is a tastefully furnished one bedroom apartment, part of 20 similar apartments, on its own private beach, just outside the tourist mecca of Ocho Rios on Jamaica's North Coast. The apartment's bedroom is an upstairs loft with a king size bed and pickled wooden floors. Downstairs is a living and dining area, and bathroom, with a sofa that has a double size pullout bed. The kitchen is fully equipped with a frost-free refrigerator, Corian countertops, 4 burner electric stove and oven, a microwave oven, toaster, coffee maker, blender, all cutlery, and cooking utensils if you want to cook a quick breakfast or more elaborate meals. Our housekeeper will also cook for you, for a modest extra fee. All bed and bath linens and beach towels are provided.
The apartment has free cable tv service, a DVD player, and free DVDs inside the apartment, an AM/FM and CD player with iPod or MP3 dock, board games, sand toys for kids, umbrellas, 2 folding chairs for outdoor concerts nearby, snorkeling masks and breathing tubes, floatable pool noodles and kick boards for swimming. Free wireless Internet service is available on the apartment balcony and in the entry lobby. There is also an iron, ironing board, lockable safe, alarm clock, water heater and a/c unit that cools the entire apartment. The sliding glass doors in the living area open out to a balcony that overlooks the pool , private beach, and lush, landscaped gardens. And steps away from the pool is the private beach with a gazebo at the end of a small pier overlooking the water for relaxation or intimate dinners. .
I can rent you a prepaid cell phone for use in Jamaica for a flat rate of US$30.00 for the entire length of your stay. North American or European cell phones often don't work in Jamaica, or if they do, your roaming charges are exorbitant. You can collect the phone and charger from my housekeeper, and return it her when you check out. You can buy phone cards at a supermarket across the street.
We provide an airport shuttle bus service from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay directly to Chrisanns, for US$25 - US$30 per person, one way.
A Host of Attractions
Chrisanns Beach Resort is two hours away from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. The resort is close to some of Ocho Rios's finest attractions. Across the street is Toscanini's Italian Restaurant, and Harmony Hall Gallery, an exquisite old mansion where you can view fine Jamaican art . Harmony Hall is also a Jamaican National Heritage site.
In Ocho Rios, you can shop for souvenirs, duty free jewelry and other goodies at the Island Village plaza. Relax at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville Restaurant and Lounge, on the beach at Island Village. You can visit the Reggae Museum in Island Village, and the world-famous Dunns River Falls and Park.
Ocho Rios is one of the few resorts where you can also visit authentic Jamaican towns, such as St. Ann's Bay, the birthplace of Marcus Garvey and Brown's Town, a major market town on the North Coast. Just 45 minutes from Chrisanns is the birthplace of Bob Marley: Nine Miles, where you can visit his mausoleum and museum. St. Ann's Bay is just beside New Seville, the site where Christopher Columbus first landed in Jamaica. Here you can visit a historical museum and ruins of early Spanish settlements dating back to the 15th century.
In Ocho Rios visit Dolphin Cove, where you can swim with these friendly creatures, and Mystic Mountain for an awesome eco-tourism experience, complete with canopy bridges and bungee rides above a tropical rain forest. If you like polo, check out Chukka Cove Polo Club at nearby Drax Hall. Tour a working citrus plantation at the Prospect Plantation Tour. Ocho Rios is also one of the few resorts where you can get a chance to visit authentic Jamaican towns, such as St. Ann's Bay, the birthplace of Marcus Garvey and Brown's Town, a major market town on the North Coast. Just north of Brown's Town,or 45 minutes from Chrisanns is the birthplace of Bob Marley: Nine Miles, where you can visit his mausoleum and museum. St. Ann's Bay is just beside New Seville, the site where Christopher Columbus first landed in Jamaica. Here you can visit a historical museum and ruins of early Spanish settlements dating back to the 15th century.
Chrisanns Beach Resort is just an hour's drive away from Firefly, the home of Sir Noel Coward, now a museum and another National Heritage site. Nearby also is Golden Eye, the former home of Ian Fleming, where he wrote his James Bond novels. There are tour brohures in the reception area to help you make your sightseeing plans.

I booked Apt. 10 at Chrisann's as a surprise for my husband's birthday and was thrilled with the accommodations and staff. The apartment was fully stocked with games, books, ironing board, blow dryer, beach towels and even snorkeling gear! The kitchen had everything you need to prepare great meals and we were even welcomed with a gift bag that contained some specialty items (including a bar of soap which I had forgotten at home!) Cathy did a marvelous job of tending to our needs and immaculately cleaned the apartment every day and we felt very pampered. The apt. owner's recommendation of Glenn's Restaurant across the street was fantastic, great authentic food and service, along with the Jerk Center within walking distance. We rented a car but staff will arrange for anything you want, fresh fish, lobster, taxi's, specific items from the store, and they even set up a couple of tables for our large Chrisann's group to have dinner by the pool one night. Our TV in Apt. 10 even had the NFL playoff games on while our friends in other apartments didn't have access so we really appreciated that taste of home too. We plan on returning to Chrisann's on a more frequent basis and will definitely request Apt.10!
Thanks so much for your kind words! I'm really glad that you had a good stay and looking forward to hosting you again soon.

We really enjoyed staying at Marian's place. It is clean and comfortable, and the staff, and Marian's recommendations for other people--especially Kristy's taxi service--were great. Cathy made us a great meal of curried chicken and rice and beans. We would have had her cooked more. We liked the location very much--we thought of renting a car but decided we didn't need one. Glenn's across the street was a good place for any meal. Not much of a beach at this place but you can easily walk to Bamboo (previously Reggae Beach) Beach. Take a route taxi to Moxon's just to the east, which has stunning views and good restaurant and snorkeling. Walk to the spa at Couples Tower Island resort nearby for a very luxurious massage (we got a day pass for there too which is pricey at $100 per person, but lots of free food, drinks and activities for the price). Best of all Toscanini is right down the road. We explored outside of the immediate area a little bit, but mostly stayed in the neighborhood nearby. We were happy with our choice to stay in this modest but very comfortable accommodation, and spend money going out.

My wife and I stayed at Chrisanns Beach Resort for our honey moon. We lodged in room/apartment 10 and we have to say, it was a really nice room!!! It was not the biggest room but the arrangement made it very spacious. It was very cute and felt like a home away from home with practically everything we needed being in place. Everything from a fully equipped kitchen to board games, beach towels, cable tv, a mini balcony, hot water, air conditioning and even diving goggles. The staff was courteous and housekeeping did a good job of making sure things were in order and over all the entire experience was good value for our money.
"wonderful - all you need - neither too hectic nor too basic"

This condo is the perfect compromise (for us, at least) between the big all-inclusives or condos in the big centers like Ocho or MB, and cottages out in the countryside that are not close to places or activities to visit.
Host Marian and the housekeepers are very helpful.
Harmony Hall/Toscanini's, Glenn's Restaurant and Reggae Beach within walking distance. Also a grocery store and jerk centre.
Condo fully equipped including kitchen.
Condo's pool and cove/beach are small but charming and pleasant.

"Relaxing, comfortable, and private"

We spent a week here in November, 2012. We came here because it was private/ Housekeeping and security were outstanding. All employees were helpful and friendly. The grounds were well-maintained. Our room had the conveniences we expected, including the aC which was perfect on sultry days. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. Our recommendations for Non-tourist activities: 1. Runaway Bay: for swimming and snorkling (west of Ocho Rios--it's worth the drive--we went there 3 times)...one can swim to reef or hire a boat from Sharkies Dive Shop in Salem 2. Sun Valley Plantation: private tour of family-owned land. It is worth the drive inland from Orcabessa. Owner is very knowledgeable about all plant on the grounds...plus one gets a home-cooked lunch. They sell their coconut water in the small grocery store across the street...Sun Valley brand is in a very plain plastic bottle. 3. Mel and C's bar and jerk (not sure of the actual name): new place about 1-2 miles east of Chrisann's...a .locally owned hang out. They will discuss any topic in which you are interested! 4. Buy freshly caught fish (snapper?) from the elderly man who sells it by the road just across the street and west of Chrisann's.(We did not get a chance do this, but would highly recommend it.) I believe you can contact Charmaine (the housekeeper) to have it cooked the Jamaican way. 5. Make a cup of coffee (Blue Mountain, of course) each day and drink it by the back steps or next to the pool. We enjoyed the solitude every morning. Difficulties: The wi-fi system did not work in the room or lobby, but we didn't visit Jamaica for that! We rented a car for the week, but felt "unsafe at any speed" due to the crazy local drivers. (You may want to hire a driver by the day instead!) Foods to try: ackee (cod fish), jerk chicken (or jerk anything), roti (rolled up bread stuffed with various local veggies), papaya, small local bananas, or any roadside fruits. Overall, an excellent experience in a low-key, comfy suite!
Dear Diane and Don:
Thanks so much for your comprehensive review. Thanks for pointing out the WiFi problems which I'm working to correct now,.
Look forward to hosting you both again very soon.

"Our 3rd stay at Chrisanns"

We are Merrick and Malika from Paris. We came back to Chrisanns for the 3rd time because it's a place where you can be at peace. Surroundings are idyllic. The view from the reception is just breathtaking, the sea is awesome. the garden is full of coconut trees, palm trees, and other wonderful tropical vegetation like aloe vera. When you're sat on the gazebo, you have a complete view of the caribbean sea and the coast line. The staff are very nice and helpful. The resort is well maintained : the pool and the sea are clean, the garden also. Regarding the apartment, it's beautiful, colourful, and clean. Everything is there to make sure you have a wonderful stay. Actually, you feel like you're at home with the added bonus of the sun and the sea. We would recommend a stay at Chrisanns apartment 10 to anyone who's looking for a little piece of paradise.

We had an enjoyable stay at Chrisann's (a few miles east of Ocho Rios, or "Ochi" in Tower Isle) and loved being able to wake up in the morning, make our own coffee & breakfast and eat on the patio, take a dip in the saltwater (with goggles provided), sit by the pool, and then swim later in the day (and check email from inside the condo when needed). Inside #10 was clean and attractively decorated with fans and a/C to use as needed. Only a few downsides to Chrisann's, all relatively minor -- some noisy frogs at night (had to turn on an extra fan to drown them out), a running toilet (told condo mgmt and they sent someone to fix it asap), an oven & 1 stove burner that we couldn't get to work, some construction going on in another unit during the day. Some of the exterior down near the beach could use a bit of love & paint (and a new beach chaise or two since some are breaking)--but again, not a big deal.
We took advantage of the grocery/ jerk center across the street -- and while Glenn's food was OK, it was relatively pricey. Loved our visit to the St. Mary's farmer's market (across from Couples San Souci) on Friday -- and made a picnic lunch of veggies & took with us on an afternoon drive west toward Galina to see the coastline; also made some fresh grapefruit juice using fruit from the farmers market & a juicer in #10's kitchen. Also used the shared "red plate" taxis to go into Ochi 2x (and avoided the driving madness around town centre) to visit some shops and have dinner at Miss T's (an oasis a few blocks from the "clock tower"). Enjoy!

I really enjoyed my stay at Chrissans. It was very quiet and peaceful. The condo was very neat, clean, and had everything that you need for a great vacation. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Being able to see and hear the ocean while lying by the pool was wonderful. I would definitely stay at Ms. Marian's condo again.
