The Wharf Hub with its nautical theme offers comfortable homelike facilities and a feeling of boarding a ship and going on a voyage, only no one gets seasick. The character heritage home by the wharf and harbor is complemented by garden displays outlining our seabed enhancement project. There's fruit trees, a ships cat, gardens and boats about too.
'The Wharf Hub' villa itself has a range of bedrooms and sleeping options, even including a decommissioned launch. We can cater for individuals, families or small groups. We offer three grades of 'Fares' - First Class, Second Class and Steerage. Listed here in FLIPKEY is the Second Class Fare. If you want to upgrade or downgrade then please ask for a quote.
'The Wharf Hub' itself is nearly 100 years old built from fine native timbers with tall ceilings. t too has an influence on making your voyage memorable. The original Shacklock Orion wood stove is useable . The meals (and pizzas) it can cook are superb.
Beds are made up ready for you.
The Master's Room (Reserved for First Class fare payers) overlooks the rivers and out to sea. It has a queen bed with period furniture, table and chairs plus quality continental breakfast items.
The Upper Deck cabin can accommodate up to 4 people in single beds, the Sunny Oak cabin has a double bed and Below Decks with its original wood paneling can also sleep up to 4. So there's many ways we can accommodate you, your family or your group.
We offer out own 'Treasure Maps' of must see and do things to explore about Opotiki. Our own special 'voyages' or workshops on reef building and keeping an even keel are extras booked separately.

There's many other unique local activities right on hand. Immediately outside 'The Wharf Hub' is a free water park offering fun and river swimming. Over the bar is great fishing and further out again is the world's largest open ocean aquaculture venture with off shore active volcano White Island being further out yet again.
Some like to use the opportunity of staying at The Wharf Hub for exploring the isolated and very picturesque East Cape area, Waioeka Gorge (NZ's longest), or take day trips to Whakatane, Rotorua and White Island.

The Wharf Hub is set just 30m from the waters edge. Following the 1964 flood a stop bank system was built to protect the town and you. You can leave your car parked at The Wharf Hub property and walk 5 minutes into Opotiki's main shopping area, where you can read of our history, visit the Museum, get good coffee at cafes, buy sports equipment, visit the Banks, and get meals, etc.
Opotiki is an attractive but poorer socio economic town and your stay here helps improve the outlook of locals.
In 2012 the new Motu Trails sand dunes walkway/cycleway opened. This is becoming very popular and you can start your walk or ride from the wharf outside. First class bookings at $90 per person include our Tiaki Moana tour, mountain bikes for the Motu Trails, kayaks for estuary and river use, binocular use, continental breakfast in your room and much more.

At NZ $60 per person this rate offers an excellent deal as it includes extras such as mountain bikes, (normally $25 a half day hire elsewhere) , kayaks (elsewhere $25 an hour to hire), wharf fishing rods, a marine life tour and even a continental breakfast. ( Note 2 night minimum stay applies to qualify for all these extras.)
