Skye Shepherd Huts BOTHAN BEILEAG-unique peaceful

Skye is a fantastic place to holiday, so why not make it unforgettable by staying in one of our two beautifully appointed shepherd huts? On the croft at our home in the quiet village of Heasta, Isle of Skye, the huts are very special small space retreats, and unique to the area. I have 2 huts, Bothan Beileag and Bothan Buidheag, each has a double bed to sleep 2 guests only.

Bringing a dog? Please book BOTHAN BUIDHEAG - our dog friendly hut.

These huts are NOT basic! Made by a master craftsman, the interiors are finished in oak, with high quality fixtures and fittings and double glazing. Despite being small, you will find that many of life’s ...Read more

Additional Location Information

Heast is a traditional crofting township with aound 15 crofts and houses dotted along the road that leads to the bay of Loch Eishort. It is very quiet with only local traffic, as it is not a through road to any other place. The crofters in Heast keep mainly sheep and cows, and care should be taken when driving as there are very few fences here, and they may have wandered into the road. There is a mixture of the old and the new as far as Heast house styles go. Our home is an old croft house which has seen various cosmetic upgrades since it was originally built in 1880. There is no mains water supplied to the village, and most houses draw their water from nearby springs and rivers. This is common in the remote parts of Skye. In 2006 we and our neighbour teamed up to drill a bore hole 60 metres deep in order to draw beautiful pure and clear water from a large underground limestone basin which is filled by water off the Cuillin mountains. As well as providing us with lovely water, it also ensures that we do not lose our water during long periods of drought which sometimes happens, leaving rivers and streams dry.
To visit Heast, it is essential to have a car, as there is no public transport. There is a local taxi firm about 5 miles away near Broadford. I can pre-book taxis for you. There is also a car rental firm located at Kyle of Lochalsh. If pre-arranged, they can meet you off the train at Kyle, or at the ferry terminal at Ardvaser.
We have ample parking space. If you are on a bicycle or motorbike, you may park in our garage overnight if you wish.
