Villa apartment.Orvieto-Umbria ,Views Bolsena Lake

The villa is set amongst the hills of Umbria, near Orvieto and has breathtaking views of Lake Bolsena to the front. We are placed between Orvieto, Bolsena and Bagnoregio . Civita di Bagnoregio, a fairytale hill top hamlet where time has stood still, was the set for the latest film Pinocchio with Bob Hoskins.

The villa has two apartments, we use the ground floor apartment as our holiday home and rent the luxurious first floor apartment that has its own independent entrance. The apartment is large (130 square metres) and it has been beautifully renovated by using local materials such as cotto, basalt and chestnut wood. It has all the comforts ...Read more

Additional Location Information

This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful parts of Italy; just how you would image traditional Italy to be and more! The villa is between Orvieto, Bolsena and Bagnoregio on the border of Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio, within the D.O.C. region of the Orvieto and Est!Est!Est! wines. Orvieto, Bolsena Tarquinia, Pitigliano, Todi are full of history and all within half an hour travelling and the main railway line and motorway network is fifteen minutes away, putting you in easy reach of Rome, Siena, Assisi, Gubbio and Florence. Lake Bolsena's beaches are only minutes away and offer water sports and fishing within an unforgettable setting.

There are daily markets at a different village every day of the week and the local cuisine based on fresh fish and local products must be experienced. Viterbo has fashionable shops and boutiques and the San Pellegrino old quarter is astonishing for its architecture.

The Umbria region of Italy has been called 'The Green Heart of Italy', due to its central location and equal distance from Rome and Florence. The area is less discovered than its eastern neighbour, Tuscany, but just as magnificent. Umbria is a beautiful, unspoiled, countryside area of rolling, forested hills, vast grassy meadows covered with flowers, large olive grove plantations, and several lakes and valleys. The landscape is dotted with many picturesque medieval villages, and the people of the area are known for their distinctive cuisine, friendliness and hospitality. Like so much of Italy, food, wine, and entertainment are the core of Umbria's charm.

Civita di Bagnoregio: 3 miles. This ancient hilltop village dates back to the Etruscans and is connected to Bagnoregio by a footbridge. Bagnoregio looks down on the magnificent Val Dei Calanchi with its dramatic eroded tufo packs.

Bolsena: 5 miles. Ancient town, the Etruscan Volsinii, that still retains its medieval narrow streets leading up to the castle. The town has magnificent lake front gardens and several restaurants where it is possible to eat 'al fresco' on the lake shore. The local cuisine is unforgettable and the wines are probably amongst the best in Italy. Eating out is very reasonable.

Orvieto: 10 miles. Hilltop town dug into the tufo rock. Magnificent cathedral, covered in golden mosaics and carvings that make it shine from the distance in the sunset.

Montefiascone: 5 miles A medieval hilltop town that was for centuries the summer residence of the Popes because of its favourable climate. Cobbled medieval streets lead to the Rocca Dei Papi and its fantastic views.
