Lovingly restored Villa Poilio has an organic herb and vegetable garden and pool
Description from the manager
Located in a protected area near Guardea, villa Poilio is a charming country house in a unique landscape. The four-bedroom property south of Orvieto was built as a traditional 18th-century casale, and today, its rustic architecture has been fully restored. Spend your stay exploring the five-acre grounds or visiting the region’s notable towns.
The villa’s peaceful setting features views of Lake Alviano, olive and cherry trees and a vegetable and herb garden. Take in the panorama of the countryside from the pool, lounge chairs on the pool deck, one of the outdoor sitting areas or the al-fresco dining area. For entertainment, there’s a ping-pong table, satellite TV and Internet access via USB stick or Wi-Fi; for convenience, there’s a gas grill, laundry facilities and photovoltaic system on the roof.
Poilio is just as welcoming on the inside as it is charming on the outside. The recent restoration preserved its original terracotta floors, beamed ceilings, stone walls, and local Travertino stone window frames, and most furnishings are traditional-style antiques, including the doors. In the open living and dining area, a modern sectional curves around a fireplace, and a wooden table can seat a crowd. The eat-in kitchen has its own farmhouse-style table, as well as an old-fashioned fireplace for cooking alongside modern appliances.
Each of the villa’s four bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom, plus rustic details like beamed ceilings and leaded windows. There are two bedrooms with double beds; one has a Jacuzzi and sauna system, and the other has a Jacuzzi, sitting area with sofa bed and separate entrance. There are also two bedrooms with two twin beds each.
Though the property is private and rural, it’s only a 10-minute drive to the highway and train station, from which it’s an hour’s train ride to Rome. A 2-mile drive brings you to the grocery store and post office in Guardea. Don’t miss the towns of Orvieto, 10 miles away, Amelia, 11 miles away and Todi, about 15 miles away. Make your connection at the Perugia airport, 50 miles away, or the Rome airport, 84 miles away.

Contact and communication with/from Luxury Retreats before and during the stay was great. The house was secluded and it was just what we were looking for. Difficulty communicating with the maid. She continued to talk on and this could probably have led to misunderstandings. Garden attendant came early on check out day which is less positive. It excludes a last dip in the pool and stay in the garden. He should come after 10 am when The check- out must be made. Cleaning staff should arrive at 10 am check out day, unless otherwise agreed. It got a little stressful when they appeared earlier. - Carina B., , Sweden
