PRIVATE STRUCTURE. San Giacomo is an old stone farmhouse built in 1861 where the ground floor was originally used as a sheep shed. It was bought by the present owners, together with a vast area of the surrounding land covered mainly by woodland, who restructured it completely. During the renovations the original structure was left intact and salvage materials were used to pave the pool area and the portico and to re-do the ceilings, characterized by the imposing chestnut and oak beams and the traditional tiles which were reclaimed from the old floors. The interior of the house has handmade terracotta floors and is furnished in a rural style which is, at the same time, elegant and welcoming. The farmhouse is situated in a hill position and offers, from all sides, a splendid panorama over the valleys below and especially over the lake of Corbara, situated at the foot of the valley in a protected nature area. The excellent geographical position of the house allows guests to alternate peaceful relaxation, immersed in the nature of the Umbria countryside, perhaps whilst admiring the beautiful panorama from the pool, with taking long walks along the paths of the neighbouring woods or with making excursions to the numerous rural villages in the vicinity or to the fascinating medieval towns of Todi and Orvieto. Also, the excellent road and railway links will facilitate visits to the most important art cities, not only of Umbria but also of Tuscany and Lazio.
The farmhouse has two floors connected by an external staircase. The entrance on the ground floor leads into the sitting room, dining area and kitchen, connected together to form a single spacious room with French windows which open out on to the portico. Also on this floor are two double bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and the laundry. The external staircase leads up to the first floor composed of a sitting room with fireplace, directly linked to the dining area and open space kitchen. Two double bedrooms (one with divisible beds on request)and a bathroom with tub complete this floor.
The entirely property surrounding the farmhouse covers an area of about 20 hectares and is composed, in large part, of olive trees and woodland dotted with paths and dirt roads leading directly from the house where guests can go for walks. The fenced-in area around the house is covered by lawn with a great variety of trees, such as cypress, lime with its unmistakable scent, almond, walnut and hazelnut trees and many fig trees which give shade during the hot summer days. The cosy pergola, right in front of the French windows of the sitting room and kitchen, set up for outdoor dining, is enveloped by verdant wisteria plants which will make guests want to spend their days outside, immersed in the quiet of the surrounding countryside with the wonderful panorama before them.
Guests can admire the enchanting view over the lake of Corbara and the whole valley directly from the pool area. The pool, entirely fenced in, is about 25 metres from the house. It is rectangular in shape and measures 4 x 12 m with a varying depth from 1.50 to 3.00 m. Purification is by chlorine. The pool border is paved in travertine whilst the solarium area all around it, provided with umbrellas and sunbeds, is paved with basalt stone. The pool is lined in dark-coloured PVC; this is in order to confer a more natural look to the pool, in keeping with the characteristic geographical context and, in particular, to establish a continuity and harmony with the play of colours in the lake which blend with the changing hues of the beautiful sunsets that can be seen from here. The pool has an outdoor cold-water shower and is open from the last Saturday of April until the first Saturday of October.
