Swiss philosopher Alain de Botton says it best: "architecture of happiness". Otter's Rest is one of those places that keeps you yearning for just one more night. The understated exterior is the perfect backdrop for for some of the most beautiful ocean vistas in the world. Once inside it is apparent how sophisticated and luxurious simplicity can be. From the inviting living room, serious chef's kitchen, elegant dining room, three spacious bedrooms , baths to dream views from office this is our favorite vacation home. From the ease of booking with Joyce at Sanctuary Rentals to our interaction with the impeccable house manager, Julia we found Otter's Rest to be everything and more. We cannot wait to return for our THIRD visit. Thank you Annie!

This was the first time I ever rented a vacation home or tried the Sanctuary Vacation Rentals company. The reason I chose Otter's Rest was: 1) its location, 2) I could bring my dogs with me (and they go everywhere with me!) and, 3) the interesting look of the house. I can tell you, I was not disappointed. The house is peaceful and comfortable (not stuffy). I loved the big kitchen with its butcher block island and the window by the kitchen sink that I could look out towards the ocean and the back yard while I washed dishes. There's a small park just across the street from the house that's perfect for dog "potty breaks" if you bring your dogs. And what's extra great about it is that people in the neighborhood are conscientious about picking up after their dogs. It was super clean. I really enjoyed my early morning walks with the dogs. A few minutes walk down to Oceanview Blvd we'd hop onto the walking path that hugs the coast headed toward Lover's Point. It was my morning "nirvana." Walking along the ocean, waves breaking, birds chirping, an occasional "good morning" from other people walking by... It was heaven. The master bedroom in the house is very comfortable (the bed was great!) and has windows that face the ocean. I loved opening the window in the evening and hearing the sound of the waves and seals barking in the distance. The neighborhood is awesome!! I met a few of the people living in the neighborhood on my dog walks and all I can say is, what a super bunch of people! Really friendly! The guest book mentions to be respectful of the neighbors and it's so right! What a great neighborhood. For being my first vacation rental home, I could not have made a better choice. I think the only thing I would have changed is the couch in the living room. The couch is not very comfortable for sitting on or for watching movies at night. Everything else was great!

We stayed at Esplanade 1/29-2/2/14 to celebrate my 50th bday. When we arrived, we were absolutely in awe! We thought the pictures of this home were gorgeous, but honestly they didn't do it justice. It was even more beautiful and perfect than the pictures! The house was spotlessly clean and stocked with anything and more that your heart could desire. It's spacious and modern with it's beautiful art and décor, walls of windows, gorgeous gourmet kitchen, dreamy deep tub and large master bath, dramatic lighting, romantic and serene spa and adorable yard with gorgeous plants, the wondrous sound of the waves at sea, plenty of seating, bbq and a fire pit! I've been going to Monterey twice a year since I was a child and I've never stayed in a place as much as I just wanted to stay at Esplanade and enjoy! Our loving dog had a wonderful time too! Our kids were able to spend a night and 2 days with us and it was glorious! The home is a 3 minute walk to the ocean with a magnificent walking trail that goes on forever! Sanctuary Vacation Rentals gave us top notch customer service and we wanted for nothing. We enjoyed working out, many long walks along the ocean and wooded areas, watching the seals and otters play, dreaming on the beach, many fabulous meals at The Beach House, Chart House, C Restaurant and Sardine Factory and shopping. We picked gourmet dinners up to bring back to this gorgeous home because we couldn't get enough of it! I have recommended it to several friends and they are planning their trips! We are planning our next trip already! If you love the Monterey/Pacific Grove area, you must rent this fabulous home and if you've never experienced paradise, well, look no further! Thank you again for everything and for making this my best birthday ever!

From the moment you enter the front door of Otter's Rest you may rest assured that you will have a vacation stay filled with luxurious tranquility.
The property's floor-plan is thoughtfully designed with a private bedroom and bathroom downstairs and two master suites upstairs. The bedrooms are beautifully furnished in colors that compliment an ocean motif and all bathrooms have a spa-like feel. Top of the line linens are found in all bedrooms and baths. The gourmet kitchen is expansive and fully equipped for the most discerning of chefs. The home boasts breathtaking views of Monterey Bay from many of the rooms and is situated about six houses from the ocean where you'll find a beautiful ocean-side walking path. The property managers obviously pay attention to detail and are gracious in their communication and assistance. If you're looking for a luxury vacation home in the Monterey Bay area, look no further than Otter's Rest.

We stayed in "Otter's Rest" during Pebble Beach Concours Week 2013. The house is very well appointed with lots of bed, bath, and table linens; attractive furniture; fireplaces inside and out; a large hot tub; and more kitchen equipment than we needed. I appreciated that the two attractive upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms are very spacious and the landing at the top of the stairs is big enough for a double airbed. We also enjoyed having a good sound system and laundry facilities. The downstairs bedroom is convenient for older or handicapped guests. The location is great for anyone who wants to enjoy the coast. I was impressed with Sanctuary Vacation Rentals quick response when we checked in and found a few things not to our satisfaction. Because of this, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Otter's Rest again and would recommend it to other travelers. One note: the two-car garage has two single-car doors. That wouldn't matter to most people, but could be important to guests bringing a show car to Concours Week. Oh - and two more things - we appreciated the upstairs office area and great Wi-Fi, as well as the cozy window benches in the living room.
