“A perfect way to see Hawaii's least-visited corner” Clean and extremely comfortable, with friendly owners located next door to help with whatever needs you may have. My wife and I stayed here for a week. We're both 30-years-old and were looking for a mix of adventure and relaxation. We found both here. Due to it's remote location, travel to parts of the island require a bit more driving, but the driving is exceptionally beautiful through this area... and the area itself has plenty to keep you busy. It's in the heart of the volcanic region, so don't expect white sand beaches, but lava tubes, hikes, and a laid-back vibe are plentiful.

“Tropical Relaxing, Atmosphere in Puna Country” Hale LIZARDE is a piece of heaven. In the country 10 minutes from the sleepy town of Pahoa and 15 min from the Hot lava tube spas at the ocean. It is located on a secluded acre , a tropical get away. Lush gardens surround a very comfortable home and Ohana cottage. We loved the screened in patio like eating in the rain forest. The Koke frogs are loud at night but it is a beautiful sound like night time birds and is reduced if windows are shut at night. They help to sing you to sleep. Also loved the whirl pool spa in the master suite. Also having laundry washer and dryer was great too, Kitchen had essentials and blender too.

Hale Kawehi B&B Guesthouse in downtown Hilo.

Hilo house

“Authentic, laid-back, non-touristy Hawaiian experience.” My husband and I just spent a week at Hale Kawehi. We loved every minute of it. Full disclosure: we both love cats and this charming Hawaiian home came with an especially loving tabby cat who greeted us every time we returned from an outing as soon as he discovered he was welcome. The house is much larger than the average guest house. It is charming and homey. It has a fully equipped kitchen and two covered patios where breakfast is a treat. Its location is central and easy to find as well as having easy access to local shops and restaurants. We were looking for a relaxed, non-touristy visit to get a sense of every day Hawaiian life and we achieved that goal well beyond what we might have hoped. Kawehi is a kind, generous and knowledgeable hostess. Lucky are those who choose Hale Kawehi. Anne Kass

About Pahoa

With a number of historical sites, friendly locals, and miles of pristine white beaches, the town of Pahoa has it all! Luckily, Pahoa is small enough that anything you want to see on the island is within walking distance. While you are here, sample the western style storefronts and stroll the wooden boardwalks of Main Street.

Be sure to save some time for these must-see sites and cultural attractions as well:

  • Ahalanui Park: Hike to the hot springs and geysers found in this park or just spend the day relaxing and picnicking while taking in the beautiful park scenery.
  • Take a Volcano Tour: There are several local companies that will take you around the volcanoes in the area, offering a rare chance to see this natural wonders up close.
  • Kapoho Tide Pools: This geologic formation is an excellent place to try snorkeling.
  • Go to the Beach: Kehena Beach is just one of the many pristine beaches on the island that the locals use to soak up Hawaii's rays.

No matter what time of year you visit, there will likely be some sort of festival or event taking place in or around Pahoa. Watch movies from some of Hawaii's premier filmmakers at the Big Island Film Festival in May, attend the largest hula festival in the world, known as the Merry Monarch Festival, in May, or listen to live performances of traditional Hawaiian music at the Puna Music Festival in April.

There are many condos available throughout Pahoa to help create a dream vacation experience. Whether you're looking for a home next to the beach for your family, or a cozy villa within walking distance of the shops and restaurants in town for a romantic getaway, there's a vacation rental in Pahoa that's right for you.

Hale Lezarde: Pahoa, Puna District, Hawai'i
Great stay Owners and contact person very accomodating

First part of vacation was great at this property. But part way thru had problems with water supply. Between the owner and their contact person they found us a place to stay and finish our vacation stay. This gave them the time to complete the repairs for future tenants. The people looking after this last place were also great and very helpful. In all out of a little misfortune we had a great and memorable vacation. I would strongly recommend both properties to all. Thank you.see more
Dolphin Cottage @ Kehena Beach, Hawaii
returning first timer

We had the privilage of not only staying at the kehana beach cottages in the whale house but we also stayed in the seaview house. Both locations were absolutely amazing! To be right accross the street from the occean at the cottage was amazing! With our 11m old daughter not taking to the time change it made for beautiful sunrises. My husband and son enjoyed the beach and it was close to alot of action. The warm ponds, Isaac Hale beach park, uncle roberts it was all fantastic. At the large house we were able to enjoy a wonderful time with my husbands brothers after not seeing them for a few years. There was plenty of space room for the kids to roam and even a neighbor who was selling fresh fruit. We would definately recomend these rentals to anyone wether coming for a romantic getaway or for a family gathering to spend their stay at any of these locations. Excellent place to chill

We had a great time. Close to all things on the Red Road. From the Sixty's Hippie vibe of Kehena Beach, To the natural wonders along the Red Road, Tide Pools, Volcanic heated pool, Lava Flow remains and some really hip folks we met along the way.If your conservative go with an open mind, You just might be enlighten. If your liberal, All I can is home. Can't wait until my next visit to the area. We will surely contact Mark and Richard againsee more

Serenade of rainforest frogs

We truly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was clean, well-cared for and comfortable! Babette gave us advice but still left us to enjoy our privacy. The frogs, birds and geckos sang us to sleep each night. We feel in love with this area of the Big Island and ended up looking at real estate! Can't wait to call Babette our neighbor!see more
