Compound (noun): when applied to a human habitat refers to a cluster of buildings in an enclosure, having a shared or associated purpose(e.g. the Kennedy Compound for the Kennedy family). The enclosure may be a wall, a fence or a hedge or some other structure, or it may be formed by the buildings themselves, when they are built around an open area or joined together.
Dry Heat Resorts is proud to represent this unique 2 bedroom Palm Springs modern compound located in the popular Twin Palms Estates neighborhood. The walled and gated property features multiple structures and outdoor spaces, resort-style amenities and architectural design reminiscent of the iconic Alexander butterfly mid-century modern homes. This Palm Springs vacation rental truly speaks to the Art of Desert Living, has been cited and featured in a variety of magazines worldwide and won Best New Home in Metropolitan Home. The art of desert living is best exemplified in a property's outdoor amenities, and this property doesn't disappoint. Amenities include a 60' saltwater pool, large Saltwater Spa, Outdoor kitchen, Outdoor bed, 3 fire-pits, 2 outdoor showers and more.
There are 2,000 sq ft of interior space spread out over 3 buildings. The main house consists of a living room, dining room and kitchen. All rooms have concrete floors and large sliding glass doors, that when opened, blur the line between indoor and outdoor spaces. The living room features a wall mounted TV plus a large seating area with L-shaped sofa, ottoman and 2 comfortable chairs. A large sliding glass door connects the living room to an outdoor bed with pool and mountain view. The adjacent dining room seats six and has two over-sized sliding glass doors. One of the doors opens to a wood bridge that spans the pool to the Guest bedroom/office structure. The other door opens to an outdoor dining room, distinctive firepit seating area and Master bedroom structure. Next to the Dining room is the kitchen. The two rooms are separated by a breakfast bar with a built-in fireplace. The kitchen itself has a modern and commercial vibe and features high quality appliances including large stove top with grill, oven, wine refrigerator, refrigerator freezer and dishwasher.
The Master Bedroom is a stand-alone structure just steps away from the main house. Like the main house it has concrete floors and a large sliding glass door, that when opened, blur the line between your bedroom and the outside. Inside you'll find a King size bed, spacious closet, TV (With Apple TV) and gas fireplace that separate the bedroom from the master bathroom. On the bathroom side, the fireplace is perfectly situated next to the large bathtub. Who needs candles when you can soak beside the flames of a roaring fireplace? There is also a large shower with waterfall shower head, two large sinks, a clerestory window and a door that opens to a private outdoor shower.
The Guest bedroom/den structure features a guest bedroom with Queen size bed and TV. A bathroom connects it to a den that features a futon, that can sleep one, and a TV.
And resort amenities abound. In fact, the shared purpose of this Palm Springs modern compound is rest, rejuvenation and fun. It all starts with the 60' long saltwater pool that is just inches away from the master bedroom structure. On one side of the pool are lounge chairs and two fire-pits. On the other side of the pool is the outdoor kitchen with gas grill, refrigerator and sitting area. Next to the outdoor kitchen is a bubbling saltwater spa which is just steps away from an outdoor bed that is perfect for lounging. At the other end of the pool is a building that houses an outdoor shower and cabana room with washer/dryer. On the other side of the compound is a distinctive seating area where guests can sit or lie on huge boulders that encircle a fire pit that seemingly shoots flames right out of the ground. It's like the compound has its own campground.

Having reviewed many rental properties and having stayed at even more, it is difficult to reflect on our impressions of this property.
On one hand, as many other reviewers attested, this is a stunning and exciting property to stay at guaranteeing a good time. When the compound was built almost a decade ago, the concepts showcased were new and unique winning many awards. The flowing design of outdoor and indoor spaces make it hard to decide where to linger during Palm Spring’s many cloudless days. The neighborhood is quiet and well connected to attractions, hiking, shopping and restaurants.
On the other hand, the property looks worn and tired once the initial excitement has worn off. Although only for a short time on the rental market, this was surprising and unexpected considering the steep price tag for this 2 bedroom house. One reviewer mentioned the bathroom sink but the list is longer. It entails among other items a torn carpet, freight chairs, missing tiles in the pool, and blistering outside walls. The toaster initially was non-functional. The Keurig coffee maker was a nice touch but only two remaining tea capsules were provided. Amenities that I am used to see at less expensive properties such as coffee, handkerchiefs, shampoo and soap were “buy-it-yourself items”. The advanced entertainment system was not reliable as it required daily reboots and is hard to use by the novice without soliciting help from the property manager.
Although holiday season, the property manager did respond quickly to a list of missing items on the next day. He provided a standard coffee maker and a replacement toaster though the least expensive kind. All in all, a disappointing experience when comparing the overall experience and value for money with other much less expensive properties rented before. Palm Springs offers many choices to stay. I recommend evaluating those before deciding for the modern retreat.

The home was very unique and loaded with all the amenities you could think of. Very tastefully decorated and set up to have fun! Very close to all the Palm Springs attractions! The property manager was fantastic and responded immediately to any question or concern. Loved the pool and spa.

This property is amazing, with all the comfort and amenities one needs. The location is close to everything. It's obvious a lot of thought went into this property. It is very open, great for entertaining but allowing one lots of privacy. Kenny was very professional and available. I highly recommend this location for a relaxing get away.

Our family greatly enjoyed the house. The design and layout went a long ways towards allowing us a very intimate space with a great deal of individual privacy. The pool is lovely and the shallow end that extends between the 3 houses keeps it cool and makes great reflections. The lighting is superb and the a/v system sounds great. We had a great time.

What a great place. Thoughtful architecture true to desert design, this house was everything we could have hoped for during our Spring trip to Palm Springs. Beautiful lighting, inviting pool, cooling micro misters, unique pool and wonderful furnishings are just a few of the amenities which make this house so wonderful. Kenny provided great customer service and made sure we were well taken care of. Such a great gem in the desert!
