Casa Juana - Spectacular views, magical & secluded
Casa Juana is unique, private and secure, nestled into a hillside, inside a secure 3.5 acre compound which is just a 10-15 minute walk to the center of town. The house is reachable via private rustic stairway which leads to the main gate. Once inside the gate, your eyes will feast on a gorgeous manicured terraced hillside featuring magnificent stone walls and walkways, all built in the traditional Mayan style. The stairway parallels a natural waterfall, which cascades through the lush green grassy hillside dotted with welcoming flower beds. In all you will have climbed about a hundred stairs but once on top your efforts will be rewarded by an enchanting view of the lake and the volcanos. Staff will happily carry your bags to your vacation retreat.
The main house was originally built to accommodate guests in quarters which occupy separate buildings outside and built on l terraces a few stairs up from the main house. This affords maximum privacy. The main house has only 1 master bedroom, with a double bed, and is suitable primarily for two people, ideally a couple, and a single bed can be added to accommodate a small child, under 5 years of age.
The additional bedrooms are in separate buildings each a few stairs away from the main house. The Guest Bungalow, occupies a terrace abut 10 steps from the main entrance and up about ten stairs. The bedroom has a double bed (Matrimonial) and windows which look out onto the Lake. The views because of the higher location on the hillside are even greater than from the main house. The bungalow has an adjoining bathroom with a shower and tub. The bungalow also has it's own private terrace.
The third bedroom is called the Casita. It is smaller but with even a grander view as it resides on its own terrace a few stairs above the bungalow. It's furnished with twin beds and has it's own bathroom
Unfortunately, this property may not be appropriate for families with very small children, who would have to sleep away from the main house, but is perfect for teenagers, who love having their their own private space.
The architecture of the main house and bungalows are a blend of traditional Spanish and contemporary California styes. All have rich beamed cedaqr cathedral ceilings, Spanish tile floors and tasteful decor.
It's furnishings are a mixture of contemporary and traditional Guatemalan furniture, hand crafted in the Nahuala style. The main house has 2 wood burning fireplaces, one in the living room, adjacent to a built-in cushioned window bench and the other in the master bedroom. The master bedroom also has its own secluded terrace, the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of morning coffee while contemplating the tranquil view. The bungalow has its own private terrace as well.
The comfortable living room, with sofa, loveseat, large overstuffed chair and window bench, is the perfect place to relax, read, or watch a movie on the flat panel TV. Bring along your music too, as you'll find an iPod/iPhone docking station, with built in charger and speakers that can fill the rooms with your own favorite music.
The full working kitchen, beside a modern stove and refrigerator, includes a coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave and blender. The kitchen is organized around a central island, surrounded by bar stools, serves as both an extra work surface, or a place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or a snack, or just chat with the cook.
The dining room table, is just a few steps away, tucked into another bay, with it's own window framing the ever changing skies over the lake. It's the perfect place to enjoy a quiet supper or to entertain, with dinnerware, glassware and tableware, with a complete service for 8.
And of course, the spacious grounds for outdoor living. There are 3 decks from which to enjoy the views and sunsets, as well as lots of little outdoor spots to relax.
Also, visitors are welcome to enjoy the Maya Traditions Foundation's Medicinal Herb garden, which adjoins the property. Our guests can wander through and enjoy the garden, which is the #6 recommendation of things to see in Panajachel by Tripadvisor. com, and worth seeing. However, it's been suggested that when spending time there, arm and leg coverings might be a good precaution, as the chances of insect bites are greater than on our property itself.TripAdvisor property ID 3316965...Read more
