Your Hawaiian Home

Ocean view home only 4 miles north of Hilo, Hawaii on the Hamakua Coast, so convenient for shopping and such. Quiet neighborhood with distance between houses, on a private road. Bedrooms sleep 2 persons each, and there is a hide-a-bed in the living room; sleeping configuration can be adapted somewhat, ie 3 single beds in one bedroom. Covered front porch and spacious covered lanai/back porch offer outdoor enjoyment even when it rains--which is what keeps this Local side of this island beautiful, and fortunately happens mostly at night. Outside areas are only place smoking is allowed. Picnic table, outside refrigerator and grill add to lanai ...Read more

Additional Location Information

House is on a private road in a quiet, private neighborhood with no through traffic and friendly neighbors who watch out for each other. Houses are spread out with large yards full of Yard Food to enjoy and share. There is a covered carport that can be for 3 small vehicles, though it works better for 2, but there is plenty of uncovered parking. A short walk to the highway is where buses run past that go into Hilo--or around the island--at low cost. A small black sand beach, small convenience store, post office and credit union are within walking distance, as well as a brand new museum of the sugar cane industry. Akaka Falls, the Botanical Gardens, and a peaceful 4 mile Scenic Drive are all in the immediate area. Hilo Town is only 4 miles away, making shopping and cultural/performance events convenient--and there are lots of things going on year round, including First Fridays (art galleries stay open and there are performers wandering the streets of downtown), the farmers market, First Sundays (2nd hand shopping at the market), plays, etc. Museums in Hilo (Lyman and Pacific Tsunami Museums, for 2), and the University of Hawaii at Hilo, also have exhibits and activities year round. Hilo has 2 golf courses and a bowling alley and several parks and Japanese Gardens for physical activities, jogging, etc. Then there is always Volcanoes National Park, which is about a 45 minute drive, and night walks out to view the lava are exciting. Helicopter tours over the volcano take off and land at the Hilo Airport. Heading up Mauna Kea there is a Visitors Center about mid-Saddle Road, and from there one can continue going down the other side to the Kona-side of this island. Honoliʻi is the local surf spot and is only 3 miles from the house, for watching, or trying it out yourself. Paddle boarding, paddling/canoes, hiking and such are all enjoyed in this area.
