Step across the tiled entrance and climb up, up, up, your fingers caressing polished wood, until you come to the front door of your heavenly abode. Outside, this building is utterly Haussmann, all curly wrought iron and restrained grandeur. Inside, it’s light and modern, primary colours giving verve to the pale, graceful rooms, scattered with coolly contemporary furniture. You’re in one of Paris’ most beloved residential areas, surrounded by sweet cafes, busy bistros and peaceful squares. Swing by lively Montparnasse, or amble over to the Champs de Mars and on to the river. Life here is so good, your feet will barely touch the ground.
Lift me up
Your hosts were recently married, and they’re still giddy with all the romance of newlyweds. They love to travel, with a particular passion for sailing, and they share their time between Paris and the South West, where they both grew up.
There’s a terrific freshness to this home’s open plan living area, where white walls, large windows and abundant sunshine keep things bright and breezy. Rock out on the lime green Eames chair, eat atop the glass dining table or simply admire the original fireplace from one of the two comfy couches. The shiny kitchen’s bang up to date, and the retro barstool is the ideal spot for your morning coffee.
The study transforms into an extra bedroom with just the flip of a sofa bed, while the bathroom is shaded an intense azure blue. Enjoy our luscious complimentary toiletries either beneath the shower or in the decadent corner bath, and then, to bed, in the generously proportioned master bedroom. Rich caramel floorboards, a striped rug and a soft bed swathed in our crisp white linen… what more do you need for the perfect night’s sleep?
Feet on the ground
With the Eiffel Tower, the Seine and the Invalides so close, it’s tempting to rush out into tourist Paris. First, though, we entreat you to explore Vaugirard, a friendly, relaxed neighbourhood, where you’re never far from a Boulangerie- Patisserie, and the shop windows are filled with delights. Pack a picnic and head for Square St Lambert, or the stately lawns of Avenue de Breteuil, or, the métro journey from Volontaires to Châtelet takes around twenty minutes.
