Situated in the historic Montorgueil district, rue Marie Stuart is a small and narrow cobblestone street extending about 50 meters between rue Montorgueil and the arcades of the Passage du Grand Cerf. This entire district is closed to traffic and is full of small shops, cafés, restaurants, bakeries, markets and a steady stream of Parisians. Rue Montorgueil is the last remaining vestige of the great “Halles de Paris” – the central market place that moved out of Paris proper in the late 1960's. In the rue Montorgueil you are embraced by one of the most alive and picturesque streets of Paris. It is called the rue Marché and here you can purchase fresh flowers, fruits, vegetables, fish, and an assortment of meats, cheeses, and bread from small shopkeepers who display their wares openly. Some of the restaurants and stores date back as far as the 17th century! Enjoy the village feeling and sense of place and history. You will find the bustle and discriminating ambiance of Paris until late at night on rue Montorgueil.
But step into the building on the rue Marie Stuart and leave all the hustle and bustle behind. The building has been completely renovated in order to modernize the infrastructure while maintaining its historical integrity. It features a locked grill at street level and a locked entrance door to the stairwell. The studio has a new three point lock. Quiet, secure and convenient, the studio is situated on the first European floor (2nd US) of this small well kept 17th century building. Looking onto the small interior courtyard, it is the perfect balance with the lively world of the streets outside and perfect blend of old and new. The apartment was completely renovated in December 2007 and features carefully reexposed beams, a new oak floor, an open designer kitchen, designer bath with large shower and heated towel rack, and state of the art air-conditioning and heating.
We have tried to maintain the feeling of the historical context of the building and the area by revealing and refinishing magnificent 400 year old beams and reinstalling wood floors. But we have consistently sought to modernize the conveniences and furnishings in accordance with our sense of style. All appliances, including refrigerator, combination ceramic stove top, oven, dishwasher, microwave oven, and sink are new as are all furnishings. The Italian designed leather sofa bed is top of the line quality and has an excellent mattress. A media center bookshelf houses the flat screen television and entertainment center and a closet provides space for clothing and shoes. We have also added overhead light fixtures in the kitchen and wall lamps in the living and bedroom areas. We have installed a big water heater that provides an ample supply of water for showers.
Rue Marie Stuart is located in the heart of Paris. The Seine, the Louvre, the Opera, Pompidou Center, the Marais district, Sainte Chapelle, and the Latin Quarter are all within easy walking distance. The same is true of the shopping center at Les Halles, Palais Royal, and the Tuilleries Gardens. In the nearby Forum des Halles, you will find a large selection of shops as well as a large swimming pool and a Cineplex, complementing the variety of cafes, restaurants, and shops on rue Montorgueil.
Transportation could not be more convenient from this fantastic location. If you cannot walk where you want to go, there are three metro stations and three rapid transit lines (RER) within a five minute walk of the apartment. The central bus stop at Place Chatelet is also within a few minutes’ walk.
Need more room? The apartment is located in the same building as our apartment ID 29 and next door to apartment ID 79. This is a perfect combination for two or three families traveling together but yet want separate accommodations. Together, the three properties can accommodate up to 10 persons.
Additional amenities include: coffee maker, 1st european floor walk up (2nd us) no elevator, completely repainted may 2014, wc, four burner stove top, free high speed internet access, wi-fi or ethernet, 20 m2 (about 214 ft2), double bed - high quality (new 2013), free international calls to north america, clothes washer/dryer combo unit, towels & linens, all dishes, cutlery & glasses, air-conditioning/heating - state of the art, free local calls - land lines and mobiles, mirrored cabinet, large shower, double sofa bed - contemporary italian leather with high quality mattress, heated towel rack, large hot water heater, non-smoking apartment!, extra cleaning service available for additional fee (the apartment is clean on arrival)....Read more

I stayed in the Scarmouche with my daughter in May of 2010.My husband heard so much about The Scarmouche that he wanted to go to Paris and experience the apt also. The apt, for us, was agreat location and the food shops around the corner hooked us. We ate dinner in the apt most nights after visiting street markets, food and wine shops. It was so nice to have the apt to return to after walking and sightseeing all day. The washer/dryer was a wonderful perk. My husband loved that. The bed was very comfortable and altho the studio is small, we had just disembarked a cruise so we were used to a cabin. The luxury of our own kitchen was so much better than a hotel. We are talking about our next trip and now that we have seen most of the tourist must sees in Paris I would like to again stay in the studio and live like a Parisian. Vip made my stay in Paris just perfect.

This apartment is within easy walking distance of many top sites. Also easy walk to two major Metro stops. Great location - lots of activity right outside your door but the apartment itself is nice and quiet.

Boulangeries, bistros, great shopping and metro stations are all nearby. You will feel safe and secure in the flat after a long day touring the city. We look forward to trying another location, just for variety, when we return. Market day takes place on Sundays a few streets over near the Chatelet Les Halles metro stop. Bon voyage.

This apartment is located in a fantastic area of Paris - and (fortunately as far as we were concerned) an area that I didn't see advertised as a tourist area. Each morning my daughter put on coffee then ran downstairs to buy fresh fruit and quiche to bring back for breakfast. Most evenings we ended up back on Etienne Marcel for drinks and cheese. We were only there 4 days - way too short. Walked to Seine River, Louvre, Notre Dame, Latin Quarter, etc. Plus metro nearby for longer jants. Everyone friendly. Apartment very very small (& the only reason I rated "low" in comfort), but suited us fine, as we were in it only to sleep. Appreciated the a/c, washer/dryer, & security locks although we (three women: myself, daughter, granddaughter) never felt in danger - nice neighborhood. Great markets, restaurants, shops, etc. A good feel for our first time in France.

This little studio was perfect for our needs. My adult daughter and I stayed for 4 nights in May 2010. The apartment was spotless and had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. The studio is small but has made very good use of space. The location is perfect, you are walking distance to so many great Paris attractions and there are plenty of public transportation options available close by. Very good value for the money. We were very pleased with our stay.

We were delighted with the charm of this historic neighborhood. For those who desire the feel of an authentic Parisian experience, Rue Montergueil is it. The small cafes, bakeries and shops where you can find just about anything. The narrow cobblestone street that comes alive in the evening. We were incredibly pleased with the location and the apartment (The Scaramouche), we will definitely stay there again!

We spent a wonderful week at the Scaramouche Studio. A friend of ours stayed at another apartment (No.125) and highly recommended for us to do the same thing.
The apartment was in the heart of Paris and it was in a very safe location.
It had every item that you could possibly need and it was very handy to have an iron to press all our clothes.
Authentic restaurants and cafe just downstairs and we could walk to everything.

We stayed at the Scaramouche Studio in May of 2008 and we were generally pleased with the apartment. The location is fantastic, right near the Les Halles transportation hub and in the middle of streets packed with small shops and restaurants. The apartment is a bit smaller than advertised, I wouldn't say it could sleep 4 by any stretch of the imagination unless #3 and #4 were small children. The apartment was somewhat hot and stuff and we couldn't figure out the air conditioner, but that's more on us not calling for help than the apartment itself. One thing to note, there aren't any windows that open to the street, just one that opens to a central "courtyard"/airshaft in the middle of the apartment building.
Overall though, this apartment was a great place for our needs, it was spotlessly clean and well maintained. The free international long distance came in very handy and the welcome bottle of wine was a nice touch. Vacation in Paris was very easy to deal with and the key exchange/door code system could not have been easier.

The best thing about this property is the location. It's so central, we walked pretty much everywhere. It is only about a 5-10 min walk to the Louvre. And, for the couple of times we took the metro, there's a stop very close by. We also really loved Rue Montorgueil for its cafes, shops and bakeries. The apartment itself was very clean and comfortable, and we appreciated all the information we received, both before we left for Paris (from Vacation In Paris) and once we arrived at the apartment (from the previous visitors and the guide books etc.) We also really liked being able to make a couple of quick calls home to Canada! It was a great home base for our too-short trip to Paris! We'd highly recommend it to others.

The studio was small, but quite suitable for two for four days. Excellent district as majority of "Ill de Cite" sights are within reasonable and easy walking distances. Minor use of rail and bus required. Many food shops in immediate "villiage" area. Adequate cooking in studio for short stays and alternating restaraunt type meals. Security quite good. Issue about fresh air through main window. Studio windows in block opened into a small common upwards "well/type flue"--
8ftx8ft square. TV with DVD capacity there. Caretaker attended promptly when called. No problems with neighbour noise during stay. This studio would be quite adequate base for two people staying about 7 nights exploring Paris city sights with savings on some in house cooking. Geoff and Ann

Location was wonderful - so central in Paris. Quite small though, would be good for 2-3, but a bit cramped for 4 adult-sized people (parents and two teenage boys). But hey, we came to see Paris, not an apartment, and I loved the location.

My wife and I had a great experience staying
at the Scaramouche Studio for our honeymoon in
Paris. The apartment is just off a nice
little street in Paris that has eateries and
shops a plenty. The apartment was private,
and had some charm as well. It is not overly
spacious, but was perfect for what we needed.

This was our first trip to Europe and Paris. We arrived in a light rain, the perfect black and white impression of the city. Just like the calendar photos that we'd been looking at for the last 2 years. We were slightly turned around when we emerged from the Metro station near the apartment. Within seconds, a lovely French woman was offering her help and walked with us, the 3 blocks to the apartment. That was our first impression of Paris and it only got better over the next 3 days. The apartment is a great location for the Metro (about 2 blocks away) and for shops and dining right around the corner. We spent our mornings at the bakery and coffee shop and watched the neighborhood come to life. In the evenings, we'd return to the neighborhood to have dinner and relax. The building and area are very quiet. The apartment had everything we could ever ask for. It was an excellent home base and we wouldn't hesitate to stay in this unit again. We're looking forward to our next trip to Paris and will be renting from Vacation in Paris again.
