Additional Location Information

For more than three millennia, Croatia's Dalmatian coastline has lured emperors, adventurers and lovers of beauty to its shores. Still pristine, its spectacular sights, natural wonders and welcoming people make Dalmatia a world-class destination.

Taken separately, the three elements of craggy coastline, soaring mountains and lush, fertile valleys which typify Zadar area are individually tempting, and together provide an irresistible magnet for those seeking the unforgettable pleasure.

Located in the center of the Croatian coast, it is one of the most diverse regions of the country, with its heavily indented shoreline and imposing Velebit mountain chain running down to the green pastures of Ravni kotari.

This region boasts up to 300 islands and rocky projections, only 17 of them inhabited. Civilized life here can be traced back some three thousand years, with the stamp of ancient personalities clearly visible in the streets and squares of towns like Zadar. It is because of its cultural and historic monuments like churches and other community buildings, festivals and similar folklore events that make this Mediterranean town so interesting, beautiful and different.

There is also its proximity to the Paklenica Nature Park and the Kornati Archipelago National Park and within striking distance, the Plitvice Lakes, the River Krka Waterfalls and the Northern Velebit. Rivers Krupa and Zrmanja churn up white waters in their canyons attracting those eager to participate in organized adrenalin sports.

THE ISLAND OF PASMAN

The island of Pasman is 63 km2 large and stretches parallel to the coastline divided from mainland by the picturesque Pasman Chanel. At places only 2 km wide and in which dozens of small islands lie dispersed like a broken string of pearls it is an ideal region for all types of water sports, sailing and diving. It is connected to the island of Ugljan by a bridge over the Zdrelac straits, while ferries connect it to Zadar and Biograd.

The currents in this area change direction every 6 hours, thus making the waters here among the cleanest in the entire Adriatic. The island's well-preserved landscape contains many species of medicinal and aromatic herbs, vineyards, fields and olive groves, as well as numerous sand and gravel beaches, making it a true choice for those who want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of life in more populated areas.

Pasman is surrounded with beautiful sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and covered by stunning scenery and nature, with old stone houses dotted around. You'll certainly enjoy your stay here, how could you not when the island manages to combine old with new, modern tourism with age old customs and traditions.

South of Croatia, washed in sun, bathed in warm sea, rich in fish, olives and wine, sank in songs under stone walls of ancient times gloriously unveils the true Mediterranean. This truly is one of the most attractive island destinations along the Adriatic.
