Pawley’s Island & Litchfield Beach
“Kick back and relax.” That feeling is the same today as it was when vacationers first set foot on
the beaches of Pawley’s Island and Litchfield Beach. The families of rice planters who owned
plantations on the nearby rivers first settled Pawley’s Island in the early 1700’s. They moved their
families from their rice plantations on the rivers to their beach homes in May of each year, where
they remained until the first frost in November. This leisurely existence has developed the charm
of Pawley’s Island.
Pawley’s Island continues to be known for its carefree, laid-back lifestyle. Here you’ll find the
white-sand beaches are ideal for walking and collecting seashells; the ocean and surrounding
creeks teem with fish and swimmers; gentle breezes abound for a day of sailing and rope
hammocks are a favorite for after-lunch naps. At the end of each day glorious sunsets will delight
the eye and nourish the soul. With a mixture of centuries-old beachfront cottages and modern
resort-style accommodations, Pawley’s Island offers the best of all possible worlds.
