“An ideal family property for the festive season” Im sure we have already submitted a review but again we found the property had everything we needed for an extended family stay. The standard of accomadation was first class and the owners couldnt have been more helpful. We have paid much more for properties that dont come anywhere near this standard and would certainly stay there again.

“Garden Cottage Peak District” The cottage was very cosy and clean with everything you require to enjoy a pleasant holiday. The owners were very helpfull and polite. Castleton is a very friendly village with several places to eat.Having a pet and wanting to spend time with him we found it an advantage that dogs were welcome in some pubs and coffee shops.

“fantastic location and lovely warm welcome” we had a fantastic week made all the better for the warm welcome from the owners who called for our 3 children each morning to come and help feed the horses and tolerated our 2 year old throwing the stones from the driveway into the water trough! This barn is in a wonderful location, close to Chatworth and Bakewell, right in the Peak District with beautiful walks right opposite. we will definitely go back!

“charming cottage linked to farmhouse in restful, rural location.” We enjoyed the location, convenient for exploring the region - surrounded by fields but, being joined to the owner's farmhouse, it did not feel isolated. The cottage faced a concrete yard, field and barns (rustic - not chocolate box so could do with 'softening' a bit for holiday purposes - grassy garden behind (didn't use this so don't know if it would have suited families). The cottage was charming and larger than expected. We took advantage of a slight discount but on arrival realised it was probably given as the adjacent barn was being converted into a cottage - it would not have deterred us but would have appreciated knowing that in advance. As we were using the cottage as a base for exploring the region it didn't inconvenience us but may have done if we were planning just a quiet retreat. We would be happy to go back again.

“Five Star excellence” Elder Bank turned out to be everything as stated in the brochure and more. The accomodation and location were superb. The package of "essential" groceries was very welcoming on arrival, as was the brilliant amount of local information. We throughly enjoyed the may walks and superb scenery we experienced. Everything about this holiday was excellent.

“Ideal for a get-away from it all break” The cottage was one of four located around a farmyard on a sheep farm. The farm was was within walking distance of two pubs and a small shop. General shopping is in Hope about 5 miles distant. The cottage is in a scenic setting with easy access to walking routes and open access land. The cottage had everything to make a comfortable stay. The owners were attentive without being intrusive. we should recommend a stay at the cottage.

“Location, location, location” Lovely house, well equipped, very comfortable, in a near perfect High Peaks location. Loved it! Kitchen and bedrooms (all en suite) were great, pleasant walk to village of Edale, great circular walks from the house. Minor niggle, had to go outside to pick up the wi-fi from the farmhouse. Took some finding when we arrived.

Why Peak District National Park?

Rolling hills rise into striking fells as you enter the hiker's paradise that is the Peak District. Grab your boots, your rucksack and your camera - you'll need them to capture the full beauty of the UK's original national park. Surrounded by Derbyshire countryside, historic villages and stately homes, you'll find it easy to unwind and forget about the outside world.

Accommodation in rural Derbyshire ranges from idyllic stone cottages hidden in the fells to small town apartments and even a whole village pub. Whether you're going back to basics or want all the home comforts, vacation rentals in the Peak District will provide.

National treasures

On the eastern fringes of the Peak District sits the magnificent Chatsworth House, home to the Cavendish family since 1549. Luckily, the doors to this stately home - the set for Pride & Prejudice and Death Comes to Pemberley - are open to the public. In addition to lavish classical architecture, Chatsworth contains a collection of sculpture and artwork spanning some 4,000 years. The maze in the grounds is always a hit with children unimpressed by Rembrandt.

Stepping further back in time, Haddon Hall, seat of the Duke of Rutland, dates from the 11th century. As at Chatsworth House, filmmakers have scrambled to capitalize on its beauty: alongside numerous period dramas, Haddon became Prince Humperdinck's castle for The Princess Bride. It's a fortified manor rather than a true castle, but it's a great day out by any definition.

Take a hike

The Peak District lies at the southern tip of the Pennine Hills, famed for their outstanding beauty and accessible trails. There's nothing to stop you getting out there and enjoying nature. The ridge walk from Mam Tor to Losehill is a favorite among hikers, taking the highest route through the northern Peak District. There is no better view to be found.

A more gentle, but equally pretty, route takes the explorer through divedale National Nature Reserve and along the River dive (and its infamous stepping stones). There's a small car parking charge, and it's best to arrive early, but it's one of the finest valley walks in the country.

April 2014 visit

We stayed at Horse Mill Lodge in April. It is a delightful property, quiet but well situated for visits to Bakewell and Buxton, for example. The owners have furnished the property to a very high standard, and have thought of everything that you might need. They are friendly, and recommended places to visit, eat etc. All accomodation is on the first floor, so visitors would need to be comfortable with stairs. We can personally vouch for the excellent fish and chips from the mobile van that visits the village one evening each week!see more
Overdale Cottage
what a beautiful cottage,ina lovely village,and area.

we loved staying in this cottage, for 3 nights.when we got there the heating had been switched on ,the house was lovely and clean and cosy.the view from the windows was gorgeous, and it was just so peaceful, never heard a sound.there was a brilliant village pub called the "farmyard inn", which we ate in every night, wonderful food and atmosphere.we were within easy reach of all the lovely places to visit, one of which was a village called eyam, well worth a visit.the only negative of staying in the cottage would be if you had trouble walking as to get to cottage you had to walk down steep cobbled path.,but kept you fit.see more
