Description from owner

Description

Dunkeld Cottage is a chocolate box style cottage in a gorgeous village location and ideal for touring the Lake District! The cottage features stunning beams and original period features throughout, with everything thought of to make your stay a comfortable, relaxing one! The cottage dates back to 1820 and yet has been extremely well maintained and looked after - with all the mod cons! The kitchen/breakfast room is particularly lovely and has pretty views over the garden and is very spacious. All of the appliances you could need are here - including integral dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and of course a hob and double oven. There is a spacious and cosy lounge/dining room with ornamental fireplace, beamed ceilings throughout, comfy sofas, TV with numerous digital channels, WiFi, and a desk with leaflets on the local area and further seating. On the first floor there are two double bedrooms, again, boasting glorious beams throughout and are very charming. The master bedroom features a kingsize bed, the second bedroom has twin beds which can also be a superking bed if required. Both bedrooms have plenty of storage for your clothes and personal items. There is also a bathroom with a bath - ideal for a bubbly soaking after a long Lake District walk - plus a shower over. The garden is fully enclosed and private and there is plenty of room for you to bring your bikes - and probably anything else like a canoe etc.. - just ask us! We love the fact that Ullswater is around a 15 minute scenic drive from the cottage and our favourite day out is a day on the Ullswater Steamers, combined with a walk along the Ullswater Way! However, equally, the Pennines are the backdrop of the cottage, and if you want to head away from the crowds that can sometimes gather in the summer, then a delightful stroll around Pennine country may be just what you need! Likewise, Keswick is only a relatively short, scenic drive away - we recommend a boat trip, a hike up the famous Cat Bells, followed by a pub lunch or dinner in the fantastic town centre. There's so much to do - you'll need to keep coming back to do more! :)

Getting around

We do recommend you bring your car with you to the cottage as it will really help you enjoy all the Lakes have to offer. However, there is plenty to do right from the door, from lovely walks, local restaurants and historic houses - why not bring your bikes with you for a true adventure? The Pennine countryside is particularly well-suited for cycling - as well as walking, so you needn't venture further afield if you don't want to!

Interaction with guest

We have stayed in many holiday cottages and we personally prefer to be left alone during our stay - so that we feel the property is our very own for the week! So we have adopted the same approach with Dunkeld Cottage - however, we are very quick to respond should you have a problem and are there for you at any point during your stay. Detailed notes on the workings of the house etc.. are all provided and also lots of leaflets and walking guides to help you plan your stay. We also write blogs on our website and information literature - giving you some ideas of the sorts of things you can do when you stay at Dunkeld Cottage. Examples include walking the Ullswater Way, travelling on the Settle-Carlisle route and visiting cute villages!

Response from the owner Thank you for taking the time to review us and I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay! Although we don't have views from the cottage, we are in a sweet little village and there are lovely views of the Pennines just down the road on one of our regular walks to Long Marton. I'm glad you got out and about during your stay and visited lots of different places! We love the proximity to Ullswater and spend much of our time there during our stay, but you are right, there are plenty of other places to explore! We do pride ourselves on keeping the property well equipped and maintained but if there are any little things that need doing then please do say - we respond very quickly as it's our priority! Many thanks again for staying, all the very best, Chloe
