LE HAMEL HUBERT is a detached stone house built around 1814 set in the centre of 1.5 hectare plot of land. The house consists of 3 bedrooms and 3 ensuite bathrooms with an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge on the ground floor. The house is just 2 miles from our closest town Percy which is situated on the Route de Liberté (D999) – this is the route in which the Allied Troops took after the D-Day Landing to recapture France from the Germans during the Second World War in 1945.
The surrounding area of the house is peaceful agricultural countryside and in our garden we have sheep and their lambs in season along with chickens and ducks meandering in the garden supplying fresh eggs to guests if required.
There are several villages close by providing French markets on Tuesday (Villedieu-les-Pôeles), Wednesday and Saturdays (Gavray), Saturday (Percy) each offering something different – tours can be arranged if required. We also stock a selection of locally produced organic apple juice and cider from our French neighbour for purchase. Just a short bike ride away (3 miles) is a 13th Century Abbey if you enjoy a bit of exercise!
We have a large garden which you are welcome to wander throughout and pick any seasonal fruit such as raspberries, strawberries, apples, plums and pears. At the side of the Gite is a lovely enclosed garden which contains a hot tub for your use during your stay. Sit back and relax and search the star filled skies to find the Milky Way which runs directly overhead of the Gite. In addition in this section of garden you’ll find an outdoor seating area and BBQ for your use.
THINGS TO DO IN NORMANDY
Normandy Landing Beaches – There are a selection of beaches about 1hr away. You’ll find all the information you need on each of the beaches in the folder provided in the Gite. There are quite a few museums regarding the Second World War scattered throughout Normandy and we have listed them on a map along with an explanation on what you will discover inside! The D Day landing beaches are beautifully tranquil these days and offer lots of family fun!
Mont St Michel – A UNESCO World Heritage Site very much worth a visit – you can choose to drive directly there or if you are feeling more adventurous you can walk across the sands with a guide – if you prefer somewhere in the middle tours are available from the car park at Mont St Michel – in all cases they normally offer the chance to create a giant trampoline out of sinking sand – an amazing experience!
Bayeux – A fantastic town that not only offers amazing shopping, fabulous restaurants but the historic Bayeux Tapestry with audio guides available at no extra cost in all languages. It is also only about 10 minutes from Arromanche which is one of the British D-Day Landing beaches and hosts my favourite ice cream parlour in Normandy.
Brehal is our closest beach and an easy 25 minute countryside drive away – it hosts an incredible stretch of beach and at certain times throughout the year you have what is known as the “Grandes Marées” where the tide goes out for miles and you can pick up all sorts of shellfish with your bucket and spade and bring it home for tea! It’s great fun especially if you have children and best of all its free!
Christian Dior Museum - the birth place of Dior is in Granville – the gardens are remarkable and are free to walk around, the views of the sea from the terrace would let you think you were in St Tropez with their blue azure waters. The museum itself is payable hosting Dior’s own collections.
Most people visiting France want to experience the food particularly the boulangeries! We have 3 local boulangeries in Percy so the choice is yours! The French tend to eat their main meal of the day at lunchtime and you can find lots of restaurants offering plat du jour (dish of the day) offers. If you prefer to eat-in there are several supermarkets within a short drive and don’t forget those French markets offering the best of fresh and local produce within a short distance.
For those wanting to venture into restaurants, there are several nearby which come with recommendations from friends and family that have visited. I am sure that we can steer you in the right direction when we know your requirements.
There is so much to do and see here in Normandy, well, as much or as little as you need.
We hope to welcome you to our Gite in the near future.

This beautiful cottage, located in the breathtaking Normandy countryside, has to be seen to believed.
The two wonderful owners of this gite have absolutely found their niche in life. They combine their wonderful brand of hospitality with an amazing property, and this equates to an unforgetable experience.
We were fortunate enough to celebrated our daughter's 18th birthday here, and the owners catered the event with a amazing dinner (the desert was "to die for"). We would HIGHLY recommend taking advantage of their culinary talents!
We spent a terrific week at their great little corner of Normandy, and we would most certainly do it again! Read more

"One Beautiful Place to Turn 50!"

We recently had the pleasure of spending our 50th birthdays at Sarah & Allan's beautiful Gite in Percy, France. If one must turn 50, then I wholeheartedly suggest you do it at Le Hamel Hubert! The cottage is beautiful and perfectly stocked with everything you need. The 3 bedrooms each have their own bathroom which is a definite plus when traveling with 4 adults. While the cottage is perfect it is the surroundings and hosts that make this Gite the perfect place to stay for any amount of time. You will be surrounded by beautiful rolling Norman hills. Normandy has a way with the color green that is difficult to describe - I am not sure I have ever seen so many variations. We arrived late in the day and Sarah had dinner ready for us to pop in the oven. While always available for assistance, Sarah and Allan have a way of making you feel like the whole place is yours and yours alone. I am not sure I will ever enjoy another strawberry as much as the wild strawberries that Allan picked for us one morning - it is those little touches that truly make a vacation wonderful and memorable. Sarah is available and helpful throughout the whole planning portion of your trip which also makes the trip that much easier. I would stay at Le Hamel Hubert again, and again, and again!

The cottage was delightful and Sarah was very friendly and helpful. The cottage was slightly out of town so very peaceful. The kitchen was well equipped for us to cook the produce we bought from a nearby market. The photos of Hamel Hubert are exactly what it is like, no false advertising. We stayed for 5 nights and took some day trips to Mont St Michel,
Bayeux and D Day beaches. We really enjoyed our time at this very homely cottage.

We spent a week in Le Hamel Hubert and loved it! It is a charming renovated stone house in the "real" French countryside. As a family, we appreciated having 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths. We enjoyed the cupboard of games, English-language TV, CD player, complete kitchen with dishwasher (and washing machine), the top-floor master suite, and, of course, the outdoor hot tub, which was lovely even though it was barely above freezing outside! Go outside the house and you will hear... No traffic noise. So refreshing! Owners Sarah and alan are wonderful and helped us out with a tricky lost suitcase issue, which they would not have had to do. Also, Sarah made sure we had supplies for breakfast the first day, as well as local products to try. Percy has three boulangeries, two florists, a handy aTM, church, post office, a convenience shop and grocery store/gas station one minute down the road. In other words, you can get everything you need. It's only about an hour to Mont St. Michel, the D-Day beaches, Fougeres (the castle there was a family favorite), and Bayeux -- all of which we recommend! We ate our big meal at lunch, because it's so reasonable. You can find recommendations online. We did not have a bad meal eating the "formule" (set price lunch of two or three courses) in all different locations. Lunch hours are usually only from 12-2, so you do have to plan around that. A few practical notes: The house is about 3 hours from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris via high-speed toll roads; the tolls run about 20 euros. You can go on walks near the house, but you need a car to get out and about. (Note that rental cars are just as cheap or cheaper from the airport, unlike in the us). There is no door to the top floor, which at first worried us as far as lack of privacy, but wasn't a problem. In summary - this is the ideal spot for getting to know lower Normandy. The house is great, the owners are reliable, friendly, yet gave us complete privacy. Highly recommended
"Character Gite in peaceful location with so many places to visit"

When we arrived we were very impressed with the wonderful welcome we received. It was a great start to our stay.
We found the accommodation exceptionally clean, spacious and very comfortable. The location was lovely there were sheep grazing in a field and free roaming hens pecking the grass, it was so peaceful. In the evening it was amazing to sit in the Hot Tub and see the wonderful display of stars.
We enjoyed cycling to the nearby village of Percy for fresh bread but there were lots of super markets only a few miles away.
There were so many places to visit we couldn't fit them all in. Nothing was too much trouble for Sarah and we can't wait to return
