“A friendly welcome.” A cosy and well equipped cottage where we were met by the owner who explained all that we needed to know about the property in a friendly and welcoming manner. The location just suited us as we have a young child who loves time on the beach as well as visiting historic sites.

“Home from home” I think this is one of the nicest self catering properties we have stayed in. Everything we needed was there, along with things we didn't even know we needed!! It was extremely comfortable and just a short walk from the town centre. The wine, cake and chocolates left for us were much appreciated, such a nice touch. I recommend this property to anyone, also take away fish and chips from Carlos.

“Cosy alnwick cottage great for families” Juliet Cottage is a lovely cottage, located right in the centre of alnwick, just a short walk from the Castle & gardens, cafes, restaurants and shops. The cottage is well equipped, and great for a family of 4. The boys (age 13 and 11) loved the bunk beds, wi-fi and games (and the chocolate waiting for them in their bedroom!) The kitchen has everything you need & more - dishwasher, washing machine, tea & coffee and washing stuff. Plus milk in the fridge when we arrived. The cottage was well heated - perfect for our November stay, and we really appreciated the wine and flowers on arrival. The area is great, with beaches, castles, walks and the largest second-hand bookshop in the UK nearby. A perfect short-break for us.

“fantastic cottage and location” The hosts were very welcoming and a lovely welcome hamper with goodies. The hoe was spacious and nicely decorated throughout. Inside was suitable for person in wheelchair to get around- however steps up to property. downstair bathroom with shower (not level access)wonderful patio doors on to the decking area at the back of the house overlooking out onto the fields and garden. Lovely kitchen / dining area. Upstairs rooms spacious and again well presented. Downside was the mattresses in the rooms apart from main bedroom were not of good quality. The gardens and games area were a big bonus. Local pub food not great. Good location for exploring surrounding area and nice to come back to a warm house. Had a great time and would go back again.

“What you see is what you get.” Absolutely perfect place to stay if you are visiting Northumberland and this cottage offers fantastic views, great location and very comfortable relaxing surroundings. To be able to sit in the evening and watch an owl hunting in the adjacent field whilst the sunsets over alnmouth is idyllic. Alnmouth is an easy stroll for walkers of around 2 miles or a quick trip in the car, with good parking near the boat yard or all day on the common next to the beach. We could not fault this cottage as it has everything you need for a relaxing break and the owners are onhand if required. Best night sleeps we have had for a while and we just loved the peace and quiet. This is definitely on our list for a revisit at some stage.

“Cosy Nook - great value and good location” Lovely house, great value near centre of alnwick. Plenty of space, bedrooms and bathroom all excellent. Only criticism of house would be that some new utensils and pans are needed in the kitchen. Otherwise, a really good place to take my children.

Why Alnwick?

Nestled in the heart of Northumberland is Alnwick; an old English market town steeped in history and tradition. Book your vacation rental in Alnwick today and start discovering what it has to offer.

About Alnwick

Not too far from the Scottish border, this town lies on the south bank of the River Aln, hidden among the rolling hills.

Once home to the Earls of Northumberland – one of the most powerful medieval baronial families - it’s no surprise that this town is proud of its heritage and the castles that surround the town. history fans will love it here!

What to do

You must visit Alnwick Castle and Gardens during your stay. It’s a spectacular historic site where you can learn about the Northumberland dynasty and the history of the area.

You’ll probably recognize the castle as soon as you arrive – it’s a popular filming location! Star Trek and Blackadder have both filmed there, and it was the main site for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Harry Potter fans will recognize it as the place Madam Hooch holds flying lessons in the first film. It’s simply magical!

Each Saturday the town is host to a spectacular market. Here you’ll find fresh local produce, arts and crafts and more. Spend a morning browsing the stalls and trying the free samples.

If you’re a fan of the beach, head to Low Newton by the Sea or Embleton Bay for some soft golden sand. It really is the perfect spot to relax. The water can be chilly, so bring a blanket or two if you want to swim!

Top Alnwick travel tips

There’s more than one market in town: there’s a Farmer’s Market on the last Friday of every month and a seasonal market every Thursday.

For the best view of Alnwick Castle, head up to the overflow visitor’s car park and peek through the trees. There’s nothing quite like it, so don’t forget to take plenty of photos.

Whether you’re visiting for the market, the history or something else entirely, book your vacation rental in Alnwick today and start your medieval adventure.

JACKSON COTTAGE, family friendly, character holiday cottage in Alnmouth, Ref 407
Everything it said it was!

We stayed here for the February half-term week with my daughter, her husband and our grand-daughter. As an ' upside down' house it worked extremely well. The bedrooms on the ground floor were clean, with lovely white bed linen and both rooms had an en-suite bathroom/ shower room. We were provided with a cot and a high chair(although the high chair did not have a tray) free of charge. Upstairs the rooms were open plan so the sitting room extended into a lovely modern kitchen. The dining table was positioned near the bay window which allowed us to view the sea. Although there is no allocated parking we did not have a parking outside or very near the house( and we had two cars). Alnmouth is a lovely seaside town with many places offering evening meals.see more

Excellent cottage

We had a fantastic time in alnwick and Juliet cottage was really lovely and cosy. The position was ideal for the town centre and very handy for the local pub tanners which is worth a visit. Louise sent us lots of information on the area and the photos of the cottage were a true image. We hired bikes in amble which was fun as there was plenty cycle routes along the sea front. Would definately recommend Juliet cottage, loved the wine and chocolate which Louise left us, such a nice touch.see more
Midwood Lodge with woodland garden, treehouse, parking, 5 mins walk to beach
Warm, cosy and relaxing in the middle of November

As before (we stayed at the Midwood Cottage earlier this year) the booking, payment and whole exchange between ourselves and the owners, Louise and Christine, couldnt have been easier or smoother. On arrival we found, as before, a tray with wine, chocolates and a home made cake - soft fluffy towels, and fresh crisp linen on the very comfy bed! The Lodge was very welcoming, a modern bungalow with everything you could possibly need, including a wonderful log burner for that extra cosy touch! Alnmouth is a very pretty seaside village, one main street with lots of lovely places to eat, no noisy bars or slot machines! The views and scenery are breathtaking, walking is a must as there is so much natural beauty. Three nights fly by and we always wish we had longer here.see more
