Casale is a beautifully converted, rambling Tuscan farmhouse in the Montagnola hills west of Siena. Sufficiently high to take advantage of the wonderful views of this historic area, yet set just below the crest of the hills, it is snugly settled into its 3 hectares of grounds, gently perfumed by lavender, antique roses, wisteria and herbs, and protected within a boundary of cypresses and Holm oaks. On the first terrace behind the house, the large pool has a wide, furnished terrace, shaded at one end by a pergola. From here you can enjoy the varied sunsets and survey places such as Volterra, pick out traces of ancient pilgrim and commercial routes crossing the hills on their way to Siena; or just purr with pleasure as you unwind from stressful cities.
A large furnished terrace with pergola at one end offering shade is ideal for dining outside or just sitting to enjoy a drink while watching the sunset. A glass door leads into an elegant dining room and another door leads into the farmhouse kitchen with original fireplace. Off the kitchen is a large storeroom or pantry with fridge and freezer. From the kitchen a wide stone staircase leads to a studio, from where open tread wooden stairs lead to a gallery bedroom with twin beds. The studio has equipment for tea and coffee making, a fridge and a shower room. Another door leads to a twin/double bedroom, while a few steps down from the studio is a large, comfortable sitting room with a fireplace. Beyond this room, the master double bedroom has a large ensuite bathroom. With an independent entrance on the other side of the house on two levels, there is a charming twin/double bedroom, a shower room and a small kitchen living room with two hobs, a sink and small fridge.
You will be welcomed on arrival by an English-speaking friend of the owner who will show you the property and give advice, if needed, on restaurants to visit, etc. The owner will provide basic refreshments, including fruit and wine, and breakfast essentials. She has also left books, brochures and cards for visits, restaurants and other services to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. This house is the private joy of its owner, and its conversion and furnishings express her delight and care, with beautifully conserved original features enhanced by treasures collected over many years. It is also child friendly, due to frequent visits by children and grandchildren. A happy house, ideally situated both for relaxing in the glorious and fascinating Montagnola countryside, and benefiting from the vicinity of Siena, San Gimignano and Florence. Casale is situated a couple of kilometres beyond the famous hotel Relais La Suvera and its restaurant, along a good unmade country lane. Just below La Suvera is the historic village of Pievescola, with a Romanesque church, a bar/shop and other restaurants. Pievescola holds a Sagra del Fungo festival each September, celebrating the enormous quantities of Porcini mushrooms found in the woods. Have just come back from an idyllic break at Casale. Lovely grounds, simply the best swimming pool we have had in a villa holiday. Also the most comfortable bed we have slept in. Decent well equipped kitchen, the lay out of the house made it easy even with 6 adults to find space, we never felt we were on top of each other. Plenty of seating outside as well. We had a 16 month toddler who had never really encountered stairs before, and needed close supervision as there are quite a few stairs inside and outside. It had everything we could have wanted, including an excellent wi-fi connection. The owner and the local agent were extremely helpful, and both were English speaking. The white road to the property is not the easiest, but I could manage in a Mercedes Viano! Would go back tomorrow. The views from the pool and the seat further up the garden are spectacular, especially at sunset.

We stayed at Casale as a party of 6. It is a beautiful Tuscan farmhouse with character and charm, well equipped and spotless. It is quite secluded and private, and yet 30 minutes from Siena and 50 minutes from Florence. It has sweeping views over the valley below which is magical at sunset. Couldn't have been better.

A very well judged and tasteful conversion of a small group of farm dwellings set within a discretely located estate on a hillside with stunning distance views of the south Tuscan landscape. A large pool located above the property is a delight to swim in. Sunny terraces surround the property. Elegant and comfortable furniture (some period) within, lovely oriental rugs and carefully selected ornaments give the place a home from home lived-in feel. The garden is lovely, with sweeping lawns down to the woodland edge and clear evidence of care and attention to planting design around terrace areas.
"Beautiful location, peaceful and perfect for 'chill out' time"

We had a wonderful holiday, very chilled and relaxed. The house was lovely and the pool brilliant. The only downside was the house was slightly more remote than we had expected and it wasn't really realistic for us to walk down to the local village, which was a shame - we had to get in the car for all trips. The service you provided while I was booking the holiday was excellent, someone always responded to my e-mails and answered all my questions fully. The pack that arrived gave good directions and added extra info as well. Well done!

Il Casale is tucked away in a lovely position with wonderful views. The pool is huge and in a beautiful spot just above the house, plenty of sun loungers and shade. The house is a home from home with books and magazines around, comfortable furniture, a well stocked kitchen and lovely covered terrace just outside where we ate. The bedrooms are roomy and comfortable, really good bathrooms. The only small gripe I have is the twin bedroom on the mezzanine which was rather cramped and hot with very steep ladder/stairs access. Fans were in every room however and were essential in this room. Il Casale is really well situated for visits out and about. It was a lovely holiday, a little jewel, very well organised by Invitation to Tuscany.

Wonderfully isolated farmhouse. Very comfortable and spacious. The largest private pool I have ever had access to surround by lovely well tended gardens and plants. House could have been cleaner on arrival, but it was so lovely there that it didn't make a difference. Perfect if you want total isolation and peace. Had some problems with directions and phone numbers provided by rental agency, but was able to overcome them eventually through the local agent who was very helpful. Not far from village by car, but wouldn't want to walk it at night. Perfect for what we were after which was long lunches in the surrounding towns and villages, with supper back at the house on the terrace. This house has a marvellous terrace. We loved it and would recommend it to anyone, despite one or two small gripes.

We took our two boys (19 & 11)to Il Casale for a week. ITT were extremely helpful, both in their descriptions of the rental and the area and in the information we received prior to our stay. We loved the farmhouse - the white road up through the hills was a bit testing in places the first time but we soon got used to it. There was a collective intake of breath as we drove through the gates. The house has been sympathetically restored by its owner and has such a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. It is well appointed but very much in keeping with its age and its family feel. The views from the main bedroom and up at the pool are fabulous - the pool itself large and beautifully kept and situated. The wisteria and jasmine covered pergola outside the kitchen door provided the perfect place for meals at the table outside and there was lavender and roses everywhere. Everyone we met or spoke to, from the owner, the cleaner & pool man, to the owner's delightful friend and neighbour who welcomed us on arrival, were charming and so helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The table tennis was a particular hit with our youngest as was the hammock. In between swims we visited Volterra and Siena, both exquisite, but didn't stay too long as we had temperatures of around 42. We did find it a little difficult to cook in the kitchen as it was very dark; more lights particularly onto the work surfaces would have helped. Our eldest was comfortable on the open mezzanine floor but we all thought the steep open tread stair was a bit challenging and would probably stop short of describing that area as a bedroom. Pievescola had a useful general store and restaurant, and we enjoyed a luxurious dinner one evening at Relais La Suvera, the hotel at the bottom of the track. As it was June, we had fireflies in the garden at night and just once, before we left, we spotted a wild boar trotting through the top of the garden! We loved it all. Read more
So glad you enjoyed it! and pleased to hear you DID make it to La Suvera - it is a special place. kind regards, Dan W.

When we pulled into the driveway of Il Casale, the secluded setting and the house itself far exceeded our expectations. The swimming pool is huge and so private that adventurous members of our group could skinny-dip without fear of being overlooked. The windows in the bedrooms look out over a view of the distant hill towns. We could watch the sun go down every evening. The kitchen is well equipped and the gracious owner left wine and basic supplies for us. She called a few times to make sure we were enjoying our stay. We went to Siena and all of the little market towns nearby and to the wine tours in Montepulciano, but we ate at home under the arbor each evening because Il Casale became our home.
