Additional Location Information

To visit the historic centre of Vicopisano is like stepping back in time with its Medieval Towers, cobbled pathways and hidden lanes. Situated away from the more beaten tracks of Tuscany but close enough to visit its famous sites. Vicopisano is a place where you will witness a more authentic Tuscany a place where you will see villagers enjoying their morning cappuccino at the local bar, school children queuing for ice cream at the local Gelateria, a three wheeler Api (small agricultural vehicle) piled high with local produce and the summer long festivals themed around good food, dining alfresco and dancing.

Casa Colomba is situated the heart of the Medieval village centre which is steeped in histor. Todays visitors can witness many Medieval Towers and Tower Houses as well as a Medieval masterpiece designed by the renaissance engineer Filippo Brunelleschi. Brunelleschi was responsible for fortifying the whole village back in the middle ages and today visitors can enjoy a guided tour of the impressive Medieval fortress and watch tower.

Visitors can also enjoy visits to a local organic olive farm where we can organize a private visit of the olive groves and olive press where you can taste the award winning olive oil along with other local produce.

Not too far away at the edge of the village you can visit an artisan at work in his ceramic workshops. We can organize a memorable morning where you can visit the workshop of one of the very last remaining potters in the area. See the potter at the wheel witness how the pieces are decorated and glazed and understand the history behind the ceramics of Vicopisano an artisan trade which has been present in the area since the middle ages.

Vicopisano is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful region of Tuscany. PISA with its famous leaning tower is just a short 25 minute drive or a local bus ride away. LUCCA the medieval walled city and Puccini's birthplace is just a 30 minute drive away. FLORENCE with its famous monuments and museums can be reached in 45 minute train journey.
