About Port Isabel

Located in Cameron County, Texas, Port Isabel was once an important cotton-exporting port before the American Civil War. Called the "Shrimp Capital of the World", this town is also home to a booming water tourism.

Port Isabel is one of the oldest towns in Texas! It has a long history starting with Alonzo de Pineda who founded it in 1519. It soon became a town after the Mexican War of Independence.
