About Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan has been home to many indigenous groups over the centuries, but the first Europeans found it in 1690. Both have left their mark on this northwest territory, as you can see in the many museums dedicated to the area's history.

This is an unrivalled spot for adventurous holiday makers. Explore the vibrant cities and tranquil parks, and try new things!

Saskatchewan is the place you want to go if you want to catch some rays. It has more hours of sunlight than any other province in Canada. This makes the summers particularly hot, but the winters are still pretty cold. Also, make sure you avoid tornado season, as Saskatchewan has the most of those, too!

While you're there you should really try the jams and jellies made from Saskatoon berries. They're like blueberries and are usually made into a pie or served with fresh cream. Delicious!

What to do in Saskatchewan

If you love being outdoors, Saskatchewan is a great vacation destination. There are parks with plenty of campsites, hiking trails and places to explore. Just be careful – you might spot a bear or a moose!

(Best thing to do is to back off slowly – don't try and feed or touch them!)

While you're there, you should really try fishing! There's almost 100,000 lakes and rivers and it claims to be the best place for freshwater fishing in the world.

Even if you don't go, you'll probably end up eating the delicious freshwater fish in one of the restaurants. Locals catch it daily to make sure it's fresh when it ends up on your plate!

If you're not into all the outdoorsy stuff, wander around the cities. Indulge in the Saskatchewan culture by day, and, by night, let your hair down and enjoy a wild night out on the town!

Top Saskatchewan travel tips

Driving around Saskatchewan is fantastic. Definitely rent a car so you can get to all the places you want to see.

If you go in the winter, make the most of the snow-based activities. Tobogganing, snow tubing, skating and even dog sledding is available! Just remember to bring an extra sweater!

Remember: Canadian restaurants don't include gratuities, so you need to tip your waiters at the end of the meal. The going rate is 10-15% so make sure you have some change.
