Beautiful Villa/ Botanical Garden/Wild Coast/Surf

On the central Pacific Coast of Mexico, an elegant villa accomodating up to 8 people set among lushly growing trees and gardens, two minute walk to the beach and coastal overlooks. Four bedrooms and four 1/2 baths, all with patios, generous kitchen.

Casa Don Juan is a comfortable, elegant place to stay on a wild and pristine stretch of Pacific coast, unchanged by tourism. Primeval jungle still covers the mountains and reaches the coast. Additional Location Information

Located on a jungle-covered rocky point that juts into the Pacific. To the North are picturesque rocky headlands and to the south a beautiful curving sand beach, twelve kilometers in extent. Behind the beach, and issuing at the base of Punta El Custodio, is a mangrove estuary which is home to more than one hundred species of local and migratory birds. Fun things to do right there; SURFING, beach combing, exploring estuary with kayak or paddle board. There are frequent releases of BABY TURTLES at adjacent Playa Las Tortugas. DEEP-SEA FISHING takes off from Platanitos, an easy 15 minute walk away as does spectacular whale-watching. Forty minutes to the North is historic San Blas, with its 17th century ruins and brisk modern fishing culture. Nearby is La Tovara, entered by an interesting trip through the mangroves, with sightings of crocodiles, boa constrictors, and birdlife. The Spring of La Tovara is a clear and invites a swim, while drinks, lunch or snacks can be had on the porch. The area is one of the world-class BIRDWATCHING hotspots. To the South are the Petroglyphs(1 hour), a remarkable set of stone carvings of great antiquity in a beautiful setting, not accessible in the rainy season. Also visit the charming town of Chacala (1 hour)for its calm beach and excellent beachside seafood, or walk 15 minutes to Platanitos, where a calm beach, good grilled fish and a rather robust weekend scene await you. There are weekly markets in San Blas(40 mins), Zacualpan(20 mins), La Peñita(1 hour). Get the day of the week from Ismael and also the nature of the market. San Blas and Zacualpan tend to be practical while La Peñita is oriented more to tourists and has trinkets, paintings, fabric and pottery.i

How to get around? If you don't have a car our Manager, Ismael, will arrange a car and driver for you. The cost is reasonable. If you have a rental car, driving is safe and easy on the country roads. Try to avoid driving at night.

A note about surfing: The mouth of the estuary with its shifting, fan-shaped delta, provides good surfing most of the time. People come from as far as Australia to surf there. Chacala(1 hr), with its famous break, reachable by boat, Santa Cruz(35 min) and Stoner's(50 min), with its seasonal one-kilometer break are very well known. Surfboards can be rented at Punta El Custodio and Ismael can put novices in touch with trainers who will come out and give lessons for a reasonable price. I am preparing information on surfing instruction and board rentals that will be available on request to surfers who wish it.
