Situated a just short walk from the River Lie, surrounded by fields and with views over Loudeac Forest, it is a wonderful place to stop and appreciate the variety of birds, butterflies and wild flowers that thrive here; deer, boar, hares and all sorts of birds of prey are regularly spotted.
The river here is popular with anglers, and a short distance away kayaks can be hired, whilst a riding stables in the forest organises pony trekking.
Plessala is particularly good for walkers and cyclists, a local guide of marked circular trails is available, some of these routes pass beside the ancient stone crosses which are feature of the area.
The surrounding villages and market towns offer a variety of dining venues, individual shops and lots to see to do without having to travel far. On a nearby hilltop Moncontour features streets full of well preserved medieval buildings, 11th century town walls and regular fetes in costume. Lamballe, a town of great historic importance in this area of Brittany, has many half timbered houses, an art museum, and a national harass in the centre with public tours of the stables. Loudeac has a large indoor leisure centre with pool, a maison du peche alongside the large fishing lake and regular brocante sales at the race course. La Cheze hosts music festivals in the grounds of its ruined chateau, it also has a museum of local crafts and art exhibition and another large lake for anglers.
Within a forty minute drive there are many options for days out, including the wonderfully preserved cities of Dinan and Josselin, excellent golf courses at Val-Andre and Ploermel, the stunning north coast beaches that run between Erquy and St Brieuc, inland Lake Guerledan offers water skiing, boat trips and swimming, Pontivy an attractive Napoleonic town with the Nantes to Brest to canal running through its centre or go just a little further and visit the standing stones at Carnac.
