3/1/15 Note: A single family house has started construction on 3/1/15 on the adjacent lot. As a result, we are discounting the rental rate until 6/13/15. The contractor has assured us that they will not be working weekends, that they will not begin work before 8am, that they usually quit working by 3pm, and that they will curtail loud music. The loud part of the construction should be complete by May. So, if your vacation plans include getting up and getting out to see Kauai, then this is the deal for you! By the time you return from your daily activity, everything should be quiet.
Akala Pua (Pink Hibiscus) is a lovely three bedroom, three full bathroom home located less than 100 yards from Poipu's Hoona (Baby Beach) Beach and very near Lawai (Beach House) Beach in sunny Poipu, Kauai. Akala Pua is a lovely Hawaiian plantation style home with a whitewater ocean view that will take you back to old Hawaii.
The first thing that happens to guests when they arrive at Akala Pua is they wonder where to park their car because the parking area for Akala Pua is lawn, not concrete. Where you normally find a concrete driveway and parking spaces, at Akala Pua you will find beautiful lawn growing through concrete blocks. So drive right up onto the lawn! There is also a one-car garage attached to the house.
Walk up the meandering walk to the front porch and into the entry of this Hawaiian plantation style home and you immediately begin to see the great decorating and furnishings. An original Hawaiian oil painting graces the entry wall. You will also start to feel the gentle breezes that flow through and cool this house because every room has cross ventilation.
From the entry, turn left and walk upstairs into the great room with its vaulted wood-beam ceilings and ceiling fans. On the left is the living area with a panoramic view on three sides. It is decorated with a large rattan sofa, a two person rattan loveseat, and a comfortable rattan easy chair with ottoman. The entertainment center has a 27" television with a DVD player and a CD stereo system with Hawaiian CD's provided. On the right is the glass dining table for eight with rattan chairs and the kitchen. The kitchen is modern and spacious with granite countertops. There is a GE range with microwave, Maytag dishwasher, and Whirlpool refrigerator. From the kitchen sink you can see the whitewater ocean view past the dining table. The kitchen is completely stocked. In addition to all the pots, pans and cooking utensils you will need, there are matching sets of dishware, glassware, knives and silverware. Since you will need more than that to cook a meal, you will find aluminum foil, saran wrap, baggies, wax paper, coffee filters, paper napkins, paper towels, dish liguid and dishwasher soap, plus many other necessary kitchen supplies.
Outside the great room is a 100 square foot roofed lanai with a table and four chairs that is great for morning breakfast or evening meals or just watching the sunsets.
Back downstairs are the bedrooms, the laundry, a storage room, and the garage.
On the far right side of the entry is the first master bedroom suite decorated island style. This bedroom has a sliding door on one wall and windows another wall plus a ceiling fan for great ventilation. The California king-size bed is firm and an original oil painting hangs over it. There are bedside tables, a full dresser, and a 19" television. The private bathroom for this bedroom has dual lavatorie, a five-foot shower, a toilet and windows to keep it from steaming up.
On the far left side of the entry is the second master bedroom suite nearly identical to the first one and also decorated island style. This bedroom has a sliding door on one wall and windows another wall plus a ceiling fan for great ventilation. The California king-size bed is firm and an original oil painting hangs over it. There are bedside tables, a full dresser, and a 19" television. The private bathroom for this bedroom has dual lavatorie, a tub/shower with glass enclosure, a toilet and windows to keep it from steaming up.
In the middle is the third bedroom with two twin beds that can be made into an Eastern king bed for just a $25 fee. It also has three bedside tables, and a dresser. There is a sliding door out to a 100 square foot covered lanai that makes an ideal place to sit and enjoy morning coffee. It also has two windows and a ceiling fan to keep it cool. This bedroom has its own bathroom across the hall with dual lavatories, a shower, a toilet.and windows to keep it from steaming up.
Past the bedrooms is the separate laundry room and the storage room. The laundry room has a washer, dryer and sink. The storage room holds the beach chairs, boogie boards, sand toys, and coolers.
Outside Akala Pua is a 3000 square foot lawn with chaise lounges for sunbathing on those days when you don't want to make the 3 minute walk to the beach. The lawn is also home to a gas barbecue. Akala Pua shares this lawn with our three bedroom home, Ahe Lani.

We stayed for 7 nights with my spouse and two adult children and had a great time. The location was perfect for access to the beach, tennis, golf and dining out. Dinner on the veranda with the cool breeze was a bonus! I want to go back soon!

The house is like new and very comfortable. It is within walking distance of some very good snorkeling and sunset-viewing. We loved grilling in the backyard, eating on the lanai, and even the roosters! We would go back again and stay in the house in a heartbeat.
Great for extended families too because of the second house on the lot.

This home exceeded our expectations for the cost. We wanted a great location but did not want to pay for the ocean front properties which were 3x the price. We loved the way the house had the living areas upstairs where you could take advantage of the views and ocean breezes. We also liked the fact that it had 3 full bathrooms. We have 3 teenagers and this gave everyone enough privacy and space.

Although we did visit many other places on the island, there wasn't any need. This is a comfortable, well-equipped house that is within walking distance to beaches (including "Baby Beach" that is actually perfect for most kids under 10), shopping, and restaurants. We had a wonderful visit, and would definitely stay here again.
