Can you imagine yourself spending your vacation in a beautiful home on the Island of Kauai? Vacation home rentals are the best way to enjoy a truly relaxing, rewarding and budget-friendly family vacation whether you are looking for a getaway or a family reunion. This is a wonderful way to create lasting memories.
Vacation homes supply you with the room for relaxation after a long day of Kauai-style adventure while offering unique amenities and services for an enjoyable, stress-free holiday. A vacation home provides plenty of room for a family or a group of friends to not only have their own space, but areas for getting together to eat meals, play games or just spend time with one another. And, for some, vacation homes are a vacation unto themselves.
Some vacation home rentals have private pools, spas, lanais, beach access, large rooms, yards for dining, visiting or playing games, game rooms with foosball and ping pong, full kitchens and indoor and outdoor dining areas, entertainment and electronic amenities, and WiFi internet access. There is always something comforting about being in your own home. By renting a private home, the "home away from home" feeling will definitely be a benefit where you can relax and enjoy.
There is no doubt, you will have more privacy when you stay in a private home versus a condo or hotel room. You will experience the peace and quiet of not having neighbors right above you or next to you on the other side of the wall.
By renting a private home, you're able to save money in many ways. For example, while you are on vacation and staying on Kauai, there is the opportunity to prepare and eat meals in your own house. The vacation home can be a great alternative to a cruise while still creating those life-long memories for everyone.

Fabulous remodel for large family/group gatherings and pool fun.
Left on 04/10/2014 for a stay in March 2014 | Slover Family Retirement Celebration
We had a 16-day family vacation in March with our 4 children and spouses and 9 grandchildren to celebrate my husband's retirement. This was a perfect house w/guest house and adjacent Makanui Bungalow next door for our large group. It was a good location (short walking distance to the beach) to suit everyone's needs. However, the house and pool were the main attractions for the family; highlighted with the recently remodeled interior that opened up the entire living space making it perfect for family meals and gathering. We had toured the house previously when we booked it over a year ago and believe me this remodel was a bonus we didn't except. Also the repairs and updates to the pool and outdoor area are a nice addition with more to come. We had a great time playing pool volleyball and pool train on boogie boards for the little ones as well as spending most of our time lounging by the pool. During our stay they were still working on outdoor landscaping that will be fabulous when complete. We had the opportunity to meet the new owners (wonderful couple) while there and hear about their further plans. The landscaping crew was very considerate of our family so we didn't feel imposed upon. Plus, we enjoyed watching the progress. The best part of the remodel is the 20 foot tall bi-fold wall of windows that completely open up the indoor and outdoor living space. In addition, the staff at Great Vacation Retreats is wonderful to work with and catered to our every needs for beach gear and activities. Most of the complaints about the property from previous reviewers (pre-remodel) have now been addressed and exceeded our expectations. We wouldn't hesitate to rent again if we planned another large family group vacation. This would also be an ideal place for 3 or 4 couples or more with wanting to share a vacation with the privacy of their own pool and feeling of home. Read more
Thanks for the review! The owners have made numerous upgrades to this property this year and it is nice to know they are appreciated;)

The house is set up perfect for three couples! We all had our own space. The updates to the house are great. We had the opportunity to meet the owners and talk about more updates to come! Would stay here again in a heatbeat.

We rented the main house, guest house, and bungalow next door for our family of 18. Main house and guesthouse was amazing. Guest house was a beautiful retreat and getaway for us. Main house was wonderful for all 18 for games, meals, visiting, swimming... and just hanging out. Loved the renovated pool and the folding glass doors out to the deck, patio, and pool... So cool! Very spacious. The owners and Great Vacation Retreats personnel were all wonderful and helpful! I would highly recommend this vacation paradise! It is walking distance to beaches. The grounds are just freshly landscaped. Read more

Paradise in Paradise!

We were a group of five couples that rented this house, guesthouse, and next door bungalow for two weeks in October '13. It was a "Hawaii Five 0" birthday celebration for four of us girls. This house is amazing, everything was perfect and beautiful, the place was just renovated and is so cool! I can't say enough about it. This house is very well stocked with supplies, towels bedding kitchen stuff and just like your own private place, we felt like we lived there. I think everyones favorite thing was the glass wall that opens to the pool, it makes the house have a truly open tropical paradise feel. We all spent hours daily playing volleyball in the pool. It was a short walk to the beaches, and the Grand Hyatt resort, that has a starbucks and resturants, walking paths ect. A short drive to shopping centers also. Loved Kauai loved this house, can't wait to come back! Read more
A Five-O birthday - Love it!
So happy that you enjoyed Lei Ohana. The owners have been making even more upgrades since you departed.

I rate this rental 2 1/2.We are 7 women who traveled to Kauai for 9 days. We could tell the house was, at one time, beautiful - but is now shabby. The pool had chucks of concrete coming off. The carpet was stained. We contacted the rental co. with our 2 biggest concerns: (1. murky water in the spa that didn't work 2. Air conditioner in bedroom with "out of order" sign) We were told since neither was listed as an amenity, there was nothing they could do for us. Location of property on a quiet street and close to shopping and restaurants was a plus. Read more
Thank you for your review and we are sorry you experienced any problems while you were here. I am happy to say the new owners of the property are 'as we speak' replacing the carpet, resurfacing the pool, as well as many other significant upgrades to be coming thru out the year. If you are able to come back to our beautiful island we would like to offer you a discount to experience the remodeled property:) Please call us anytime!

green Jacuzzi, broken washer/dryer with no response from management except the owner wants to sell the house so doesn't want to keep up all the maintenance...was an ok stay overall esp for the price per person, but wasn't quite what we all expected. Read more
Aloha and thank you for submitting a review. We are so sorry that the one of the washers/dryers on property wasn't working properly during your stay. We do our best to fix them as soon as we can but being on and island with limited resources it often takes much longer that we want. The owner is actually doing a remodel on the property this fall and we would hope that you would give it a second chance.
We appreciate your review as it helps to know how a stay was from a guests perspective;)

The location and weather were wonderful. The home was spacious but could use some updating. Pics make it appear nicer than it actually is. We had a number if maintenance issues but the after hours staff was very responsive. After spending the week in paradise the inconveniences were worth it. Read more

Hi. We received fantastic services from the first email inquiring to book. When we got into the house, we were greeted by a lovely basket of goodies. Thanks for making us feel comfortable. The house itself needs a very deep clean. We went and bought a cleaner just to remove dust from the headboards and lamps and remove a film from the counters and tables. The carpet is so dated and worn and should have not even been placed in areas like the bathroom and dining room. Many of the windows did not close once they were opened unless pushed from the outside. The pool needs to be resurfaced as there are chunks coming off. The phone mever worked in our entire 13 day stay, despite 3 request to fix it. We racked up some nice cell charges when booking tourist things? I know the house has been sold recently, and we will likely stay again if it sees some remodelling. It is close to the beach, although with two kids we'd be nuts to walk along a busy road with no sidewalks. Nice location, short drives to all things that we needed and wanted to see.

We received both prompt and friendly service from Great Vacations --Linda Sylvester answered questions and was down to earth and knowledgeable about the Lei Ohana, the house that we rented. The location of the house was perfect, spacious for out family of 9, and so wonderfully close to Poipu Beach.
We liked the house--the kitchen was easy to work in, BBq grill was nice to use, 3 bathrooms and bedrooms gave us privacy and yet we could get together in the open and bright family area. The dining area was a little dark and could have used a brighter lighting arrangement.
One of the best things about the house was the location--so close, yet quiet and on the end of a cul-de-sac. My family would go back in a heartbeat!
Nice house and location in Poipu area - good for big groups

We rented the main house and the cottage was used by my mom and her husband. The main house is a great size, especially since it was just for two adults and two small kids. It could easily house 6 people (in 3 bedrooms). The house is kid-safe and we did not use a baby gate. The only safety issue might be the sliding glass doors to the pool area, so we left them closed often.
The kitchen was well-equipped by the rental agency and came with soap, coffee, spices and a few other items. The kitchen tools and dishes were handy.
My only complaint, and one that is not obvious from photos or other reviews (here or on vrbo) is that the house needs some updating. The carpet looks 20-30 years old (I grew up with the exact same carpet, as my mom noticed when she saw it). The bathroom sinks and toilets could also be updated. Everything was cleaned well but are still pretty old. I don't expect furniture or fixtures to be new in vacation rentals but it was surprising to see, based on the rental price.
The beds and linens were very comfortable. The washer/dryer was efficient and pretty new. It came in very handy when there for an extended stay.
The cottage was a great price for the size and was in good shape. If we were traveling just as a family of four next time, we would probably not rent the main house again. It was a good value when renting the cottage as well.
We stayed there in December and it was unusually windy during the entire trip (9 days). Since the pool is not heated, despite it being about 75 degrees outside, the pool was too cold to use.
The location was in a great location in Poipu. We often walked to the beach (about 10 minutes' away) and everything else was only a short drive.

Taking our whole family to Kauai for Thanksgiving was such a great idea that we are making it an annual tradition! Service was superb. We even mailed over a box of things for ourselves and they put it in the house for us. Amenities were beyond our expectation. A few minor things were not working (hot tub and outdoor TV) but everything else was over the top. Lots of room, tastefully furnished, an atrium bath in the master to die for (everyone wanted to try it at least once), fully furnished kitchen with all the gadgets you needed and more, friendly and helpful staff. It is a short walk, couple of minutes, to Brenneke's Beach, and everything you could want to do is in the area. We rode horses on the beach at CJM; we dined at the Hyatt; we went to the farmer's market and craft fair at Brenneke's, we snorkled and swam and the kids surfed and rode body boards at Shipwreck Beach and Brenneke's...all walkable distance. If you are a golfer, we are not, there is a first class course at the Hyatt too. Stores and shops abound from Brenneke's to Koloa including Poipu Shopping Center and the new center at the turn about. You lack for nothing! The Great Vacation Properties are fantastic.

This is a great place to stay in Poipu. Close to many good restaurants, some within walking distance. Close to great beaches too. Comfortable beds, quiet surrounding and beautiful bird sounds made this a good choice for us.

Our family truly enjoyed the island experience coupling the right amount of R & R and activities. The staff at GVR was always friendly, helpful and responsive to our needs. The Lei Ohana house worked out very well for our group of 8 adults and an infant. It would have been very tight for us if we had any more and the house is promoted as sleeping 12-14. The pool area was great but we did not use the spa as it was not heated. Aloha Read more
Glad you enjoyed Lei Ohana - it is one of my favorite homes.
We do promote it sleeping 12-14 if rented with the guest house and the guest house next door. Thanks for bringing that to our attention though as it sounds like in our marketing that might not be clear.
