Additional Location Information

Located in what Lonely Planet voted one of the best 10 places to visit on this planet in 2012: the lovely region of Poitou-Charentes. The property is located in the small village of Saint-Amant-de-Nouère, surrounded by vineyard. It offers the perfect setting to explore the Cognac routes, providing an opportunity to discover the rich heritage linked to the vineyard, gourmet food, winegrowing traditions and of course, to meet the people at the heart of the terroir and the production of cognac. There are numerous roman vestiges, starting with the Gallo-Roman Théâtre des Bouchauds and the close-by town of Saintes, another site of Gallo-Roman vestiges. The many arms of the Charente river offer plenty of kayaking, inland navigation and fishing; the nearby sea towns of Royan, Saint-Palais-sur-Mer and the islands Ïle de Ré and Ïle d'Oléron provide beautifully savage beaches. Bordeaux and its surrounding vineyards are a stone throw away, where one can also visit wineries and vineyards for tastings. One of the most exquisite Golf Courses of the Charente, right along the Charente river, can be found in Cognac. The closest town is Angoulême, famous for its annual Comics Festival.
